Introjection or how to divide into “someone else’s” and “mine.” Part I. Introjection is an unconscious psychological process that includes the perception and acceptance into one’s consciousness of the characteristics, attitudes, motives, views and other aspects of other people. That is, it is the process of transferring external elements into one’s own “I”. For example: The father tells the child that he must always tell the truth. The child does not fully understand why lying is bad, but feels obligated to obey, because otherwise he will be punished. In psychoanalysis, the “apple” of R. Roussillon comes to mind. You can eat an apple by biting off one piece at a time - this is an illustration of introjection. Those. When we introject something, we place it inside ourselves. Introjection refers to the mechanisms of psychological defense. Types of introjection: 1. Introjection of fear. This is when a person internalizes the fear of others. For example, if your mother was afraid of the dark as a child, and you were too, then it may be because she passed on this fear through introjection. 2. Introjection does not greatly disturb the human psyche. This is when someone accepts another person's beliefs or views but does not have a deep emotional connection with them. This is often seen when people accept the values of their culture without questioning why they hold those values. For example, you may think it's important to save money for a rainy day, but you don't know why that is. It is simply something that has been ingrained in you since childhood and is based on the cultural values of your family.3. Introjection with a stronger distortion of the self. This is when a person internalizes the beliefs or attitudes of another person and connects emotionally with them. This usually occurs during childhood development. This type of introject can be very harmful as it can distort a person's view of themselves and the world. For example, if you were raised by an abusive father and you internalized his belief that you were worthless, you may find it very difficult later in life to free yourself from this negative self-image. And in life, you will constantly meet people who will confirm your father's words.4 . Incorporation: This is what happens when a child absorbs the beliefs or views of his parents and strongly identifies with them. It differs from introjection in that it can lead to psychological stress. An internal conflict arises between what the child has learned and his own internal value/belief system. This can also lead to feelings of SHAME and GUILT because the person feels that they have somehow betrayed themselves. Conclusion: Introjects operate from the realm of the unconscious, and this realm is beyond the person's own reach according to the Johari Window rule.
