Yesterday I was at my job in a mental hospital (I work part-time there). I observed the following scene: A carpenter was invited to replace the lock on a door. I was present at this action, considering where it took place. Since the door is wooden and it was necessary to cut a lock into it, this is the work of a carpenter, although it can also be done by a locksmith (since we are talking about installing a new lock). Two patients (both 50 years old) immediately came up to see what the carpenter was doing and ask him questions (there is a category of mentally ill people who are pathologically and completely unceremoniously curious, without realizing the inappropriate obsession of their curiosity - they behave in some ways exactly like small children). Patients began to ask the carpenter various questions about installing a new lock , thereby greatly distracting the carpenter from work. However, understanding perfectly where he is (this mental hospital contains only mentally ill people who have committed serious violent crimes, of which about 70% are murderers (some are serial), the carpenter patiently and calmly answered the questions asked to him. However, this carpenter and himself a psychologically healthy person (and by the way, without strong psychological stability, it’s basically impossible to work in our psychiatric hospital). At some point, one patient asked the carpenter: “Are you a mechanic?” To which the carpenter reasonably replied that he was a carpenter. This patient immediately stated that this job - replacing locks - is not for a carpenter, but for a locksmith, so it would be more correct to say that this is not a carpenter, but a locksmith. The second patient did not agree with the first, showing enviable common sense - stating, that a carpenter can also change locks and at the same time does not have to be called a locksmith. In general, the terminological dispute between the patients gradually turned to raised tones and mutual insults, so that I eventually had to intervene, otherwise the patients would probably have actually gotten into a fight. . And so I think: these are mentally ill people (each of them has a diagnosis of a serious mental disorder), what demand is there on them, but how many times in this life have I observed people who are not mentally ill, but normal, but who started quarrels with mutual grievances and insults, almost to the point of a fight, precisely because of similar nonsense.
