Medicine has finally begun to understand that the relationship between the body and mind is much stronger. Usually the concept of “psychosomatics” is perceived as simply an indication of a certain psychological cause of bodily illness. However, Elmer and Alice Green from the Menninger Clinic proved that the mind can not only cause diseases, but also free a person from them. Everyone knows amazing stories about Indian yogis who are so in control of their body that they are able to regulate the heartbeat, the activity of organs and the perception of pain. Stopping bleeding, walking on hot coals without getting burned - all this was not taken seriously for a long time, until the reality of such phenomena was proven by the science of biofeedback (BFB). Back in the 60s of the last century, research in the field of BFB showed how significant an impact can be. influence a person on his own organic processes. Those. The psyche is not just garbage in the head, but something primary in relation to the body, something that controls all bodily processes and reactions. It is only generally accepted that all this is beyond the conscious control of a person. Yes, the human body is protected by the immune system and is controlled by many hormones, and all this is subordinate to the pituitary gland and hypothalamus of the brain, the activity of which is not amenable to conscious control. But why, if these are parts of our own brain? Biofeedback researchers have proven that any person is capable of learning to control their own heartbeat, body temperature, blood flow and many other physical conditions that are generally believed to be controlled automatically. And the way to learn to manage these physical conditions is very simple. Electrodes are attached to the student's skin, allowing the computer to record data on heart rate, brain potentials, muscle tension, etc. The learner is transmitted audio or visual signals that indicate changes in a given physical parameter. For example, if you were taught to consciously control your heartbeat, the light would become brighter as your heart rate increased, and dimmer as your heart rate slowed down. Or the sound signal would change in accordance with the pulse parameters. At first it seems that the signal has nothing to do with you, but soon you begin to notice that the light signal changes with certain thoughts. Thanks to feedback (light or sound), you soon learn not only to track your heartbeat, but also to control it. Feedback acts as a magical organ of perception that helps the mind control a given physiological function. Today, it is quite possible to train a person to consciously control any physiological function of the body that can be measured. After all, the body, emotions and mind are a single system, you are not just “locked” in your own body, which does whatever it wants.
