From the author: School maturity, or more simply put, readiness for school learning is a psychological and pedagogical concept. It means that the level of physical, psychological and social development of the child corresponds to modern pedagogical requirements. And, according to the definition, school readiness includes several components, namely: physiological readiness, psychological readiness and social readiness. All these components are equivalent, and for successful adaptation and successful learning of a child at school they must meet a certain level. What level exactly should they correspond to and how can this level be determined? Before answering these questions, let's consider each component of school maturity separately. Physiological readiness. Physiological readiness is understood as the general physical development of a preschooler. Height, weight, state of vision, hearing, nervous system, immunity, development of fine motor skills of the hands, speech - these are important indicators of the child’s physical health, which must correspond to age standards and be taken into account when entering school. Psychological readiness. Psychological readiness includes an appropriate level of development of mental processes: memory, attention, thinking, the presence of developed skills of independent activity, positive school motivation and a certain level of self-control. Social readiness. This is the child’s readiness to “become an adult”, to accept the status of a student. A new social role, which carries certain responsibilities and requires a change from habitual, non-binding gaming activities to mandatory and assessed educational ones. Now let’s return to the levels of school maturity. There are several levels of readiness for schooling: high, average, below average and low. A high level of school maturity presupposes good or satisfactory physical development; hand readiness for writing, the ability to copy printed and written text very well, and work with scissors; good phonemic awareness; broad outlook, good general awareness; delivered speech, large vocabulary; good memory, knowledge of poetry, fairy tales, ability to retell and answer questions based on the text heard; the ability to establish similarities and differences between concepts, classify and generalize, understand the figurative meaning of proverbs and sayings; knowledge of numbers and letters, ability to read syllables, add and subtract one; arbitrariness of behavior; ability to independently solve assigned tasks; a strong desire to learn. The average level of school maturity includes: good or satisfactory physical development; hand readiness for writing, the ability to copy printed and written text well or satisfactorily, and work with scissors; good phonemic awareness; sufficient horizons, good or satisfactory general awareness; developed speech, good vocabulary; good memory, knowledge of poetry, fairy tales, ability to retell and answer simple questions based on the text heard; the ability to establish similarities and differences between concepts, classify and generalize, understand the figurative meaning of simple proverbs and sayings; knowledge of numbers and letters, counting within 10; arbitrariness of behavior; the ability to solve assigned problems independently or with little help from an adult; a strong desire to learn.
