If you sacrifice something for someone and then want something in return, that is not a sacrifice, it is a transaction. A real sacrifice out of love and without expectation of payment for this “sacrifice”. In other words, when we give something to someone else as a sacrifice, we should not expect anything in return. This concept of sacrifice is a fundamental aspect of human relationships, whether between family members, friends, or romantic partners. When we make sacrifices for others, we show them that we care about them and that their well-being is important to us. For example, it could be sacrificing our time to listen to a friend's problems and worries, or something bigger like giving up our own career aspirations for the sake of our partner's success. However, when we sacrifice something for someone else and then wait something in return, this is no longer a sacrifice, but a transaction. This is because there is an expectation of return and quid pro quo in the transaction. Both parties give and receive something in exchange for something else. This does not mean that all transactions are inherently bad, but when it comes to relationships, transactions can lead to feelings of resentment and dissatisfaction when one party is not in the know. that it was a transaction. For example, a parent may sacrifice their financial security to pay for their child's education, and then say something like, “I've invested my whole life in you, why don't you come every weekend?” The child then feels obligated to repay the parent in some way, such a sacrifice may not be seen as genuine. True sacrifice is an act of love and generosity done for the sake of another person without any thought of return. This type of sacrifice can create a deeper sense of trust and intimacy in a relationship because the person being sacrificed for feels truly valued. It is important to understand the difference between a sacrifice and a transaction in order to maintain a healthy relationship. Sacrifices must be made out of love and without expectation of return, and transactions must be made by mutual consent and with transparent terms.
