I'll start with a personal story. — To receive a certificate of advanced training, you need to undergo 5 sessions of personal therapy with any teacher at the institute. - they told us during training. I really wanted to get a crust and I started to decide who to go to. At that time, I was studying physical therapy, so the main criterion was that I wanted face-to-face meetings. Telephone works great online, but I wanted to start with live contact. So the circle narrowed down to 2 specialists, because the rest only occasionally came to our city. One seemed very sweet and welcoming, and the second reminded me of my mother and grandmother. And part of me kept saying, “Go to the first one.” But at this moment I stopped. I exhaled and realized that I was going to a safe, familiar place. I was conscious enough to see the projection on the second specialist and go to her. It may be illogical, but we have been successfully working for the second year. Not everyone is ready to resist, so this method is not for everyone. So how to choose a psychotherapist? I will highlight 3 main stages: 1. Outline selection criteria 2. Find suitable specialists 3. Make a choice What other criteria could there be, besides online/offline, as in my story? 1. Cost of services. My opinion is that the cost should be comfortable for you. Not too low, so that you remain motivated to work, but not so low that it forces you to go into debt. 2. Geography. This criterion is relevant if you choose face-to-face meetings and live in a large city, where it can take 2 hours to get from point A to point B. 3. Methods of work. I am convinced that a therapist should not be chosen based on the method he practices. After all, these are just tools. If you are focused on long-term work, then you will see that it is not the techniques that will be healing, but the therapist’s personality and your relationship with her. 4. Reviews from acquaintances/strangers If a friend comes to you, it’s not a fact that you will come to her. But in the first couples, you can also ask your friends. I think it’s clear where to look for specialists. Ask your friends, search on specialized sites like b17 or on social networks. Search engines, websites. The choice is huge. How then to choose yours? - This stage is often the most difficult. My answer is based on internal response. Just listen to yourself. The body really knows who you need. And the body never lies. I’m telling you this as a physical therapist. You can even write me a personal message - I’ll send you a decision-making technique based on bodily response. Works great. Or, as an option, go to everyone. And having gained experience of interaction, decide who you stay with. Because when you come to the session, only then will you really understand, how should you be in contact with this person? What do you think of his words and look? How did you feel after you left the office? And in a day? Real experience is the best assistant when choosing. Would you like to try working with me? I’ll give you a discount on your first session.
