What is construction? This is a process, the result of which is some kind of product. Designing with children from 6 to 7 years old is not only an interesting process, but also a way of working, the goal of which is to obtain a design. Today we will talk about the design of their paper. In the process of working with paper, children consolidate the geometric concepts of circle, rectangle, height, width, length. In order for the preschooler to be able to create a structure on his own, during several lessons he was shown various manipulations with paper. Any manipulations form concepts such as: fold a sheet in half, find the middle of a circle, the width and length of a sheet, etc. By constructing, preschoolers learn to: cut, bend, and connect paper. The blanks are called modules. A module is a complete unit and an independent product that can be used in future designs. While working on creating modules, children became familiar with different ways of working with forms. A rectangle, a circle in two-dimensional space, a circle in three-dimensional space. The completion of the work was the construction according to the plan of “A fantastic object of a city, a house, an aircraft” at the discretion of the author. In this task, children were given the opportunity to show independence, creativity, and also apply previously acquired skills. For independent work, they were given templates of a rectangle and a circle with markings. The children were asked to make modules from a rectangle and a circle and connect them into a fantastic design. If desired, small details could be added to the finished work to complete the image. This is what we got. Design is a type of activity as a result of which preschoolers learn to work purposefully, they develop stable attention, develop thinking and imagination. Making three-dimensional structures develops spatial thinking. The proposed form of work, in which restrictions are set only by modules, affects the development of the ability to make decisions independently, and this, in turn, increases the child’s personal responsibility for his own activities and contributes to the formation of adequate self-esteem, which is an important component of the future first-grader.
