grocery (523hp) You're not kidding, so today I received this text message from the dealer after he checked the transmission: So we've been doing tests all day and found that the problem is with the mechatronics, which is basically the electronic one Part of the transmission that receives information from several sensors. That's why we started a case with BMW to see what they expect from us. I'll call you as soon as we hear from them. Thank you very much! The service department was great but the car....

paige01 (35hp) On the one hand, BMW seems to have fixed the car's problems with minimal effort so far. On the other hand, don't you dare ask what will break next, because something will happen! I just hope they can get everything straightened out and sorted out soon, man. Good luck and please continue to keep us updated.

3brothers (491hp) So I thought maybe they would just replace the transmission, but they will only replace the mechatronics, the transmission pan and a crank position sensor so they will have it by next week. I think I've had the car for five days out of the 29 days I've owned it, lol.

herrera1 (884hp) Well, I went to the dealer, followed the advice of an employee and opened a case with BMWNA. They were interested in the video of the car getting on and off the low loader. I will keep you all updated.

monster21 (868hp) Transmission repaired and crank hub censor replaced. Should be picked up today.

skills (709hp) Good news. Hopefully this will be the last visit to the dealer for a while! Did they tell you what the problem was with the transmission??

eybdth (231hp) They said it was mechatronics

nevermore1 (681hp) I've never driven a 550i, and I'm glad I didn't because I would have been so impressed with the performance that I would have bought a non-TU version at 50-60k because that was in my budget was included when I was shopping 2 years ago. Instead I opted for a very vanilla looking 2011 535i xDrive, not sporty but very well equipped. Had 19,000 on the clock and was well looked after. I have full bolts and JB4 (yes, I know it's primitive) but it runs fantastic and at 43,000 miles it has never turned on a check engine light before.

reggaeton (37hp) I think you did the right thing.

dsampson (9hp) Now, when it is fresh, check whether the transmission is faultless. I had experienced the mechanics being replaced, but on cold start, when I quickly shifted from reverse to drive, it slipped slightly, requiring the entire gearbox to be replaced.

romeo13 (823hp) So far, so good, except for a gear change in 4th gear under hard acceleration. The car accelerated so hard that I was thrown forward and it took about 2 seconds to shift, but that has never happened to me before.

SpineDoc (648hp) Bring her in, she probably has an internal code and they can compare wave speeds. If you haven't driven too much since then you'll definitely see it. These cars have pretty robust protocols

antonin (58hp) Well, she's back in the store. Something is wrong with the transmission, lol

amarnath (161hp) Quote: Originally posted by Madmachinist Well, she's back in the store. There's something wrong with the transmission, lol. who would have thought??!!?

roma1927 (919hp) What kind of dealer was that???

cth (574hp) Madmach – I just installed a new N63 in my 2011 550i in November. Changed the oil for the first time today (after 2,000 miles). Pay attention to the break-in procedure (check your manual if you have one). Mine had 1200 miles, never more than 4500 rpm and no transmission kickdown (but I have a 6 speed transmission). Vary your RPM - don't drive at the same RPM for a long period of time (I varied my RPM every few minutes. I also did a lot of driving in a gear to 3-4 RPM and letting the car slow down in that gear Get this engine braking which from what I read is good for retracting the piston rings If you read online you will see 15 different suggestions from 8 different people I chose the above I think. the only way to know if it was right or wrong is to see how long the engine lasts, and even then, haha!

201295 (785hp) Thanks. It seems to be going well. Some smoke or steam coming from the exhaust, but I don't know if that's residue from the other engine

nevada1 (476hp) Quote: Originally written by spielnicht. I'm glad to hear that everything worked out and you're finally enjoying your 550i. The fear of having to deal with warranty claims and shortening the lifespan of the affected parts also stopped me from having a Dinan tuning done. I installed the Dinan exhaust and Dinan springs. The exhaust is AWESOME if you're looking for a civilized, drone-free experience that screams WOT. The springs are mediocre at best - a very slight improvement in handling (if any). Not to mention, they develop squeaking noises over time. If you want to do it right from the start, get KW V3s. The stock struts on the F10 xDrive just suck and no spring will improve that. I'm just waiting patiently (or impatiently??) for KW to bring back the discount offer they had a few months ago. Thanks for the information

corrine1 (162hp) Good luck and hope you enjoy it for a long time to come. By the way, for a little more juice I decided on the BMS Stage 1 piggyback from Burger Tuning. It's literally plug and play. I take it down before going to the dealer for service and it went smoothly (takes 5 minutes most days, sometimes it can be a pain to disconnect the passenger side). I'm sure the dealer could tell where he looked, but from my research and experience the performance increase is so small that it won't cause any problems.

tommie1 (942hp) How has the car been since I got it back? It's still going well??

200394 (752hp) The car ran fine but now randomly parks when I stop and goes back to the dealer tomorrow. I also have a screw in the tread edge of my rear driver side tire, so today I replaced the rear tires with Continental Extremecontact Sports. Hopefully the dealer can fix the problem quickly so I can have it this weekend. They seem to think it could be a problem with the shifter.

tamia1 (207hp) Damn, I can't take a break! Quote: Originally posted by Madmachinist. The car was running fine, but now it randomly parks when I stop and goes back to the dealer tomorrow. takeme (396hp) I really want to do something to my car! I wanted to bootmod3 and downpipe but can't yet due to warranty/DEQ concerns. My question: What performance modifications can I make so that my manufacturer's warranty is not voided and the DEQ still passes? Unfortunately, I still have 60,000 miles left on the extended warranty I purchased and don't want to risk having a repair not covered or failing DEQ testing. I was thinking about a cat-back exhaust? But can this be upgraded to the 550i M-Sport? So is it worth upgrading or is the one there just as good? If so, what brand/model do you suggest? Any other mod ideas/suggestions considering I don't want to void my warranty and need to pass DEQ?
