rayallen20 (141hp) | Thanks for the advice, I never worried about it during my first 4 weeks with the car. I used it all day today in Stockholm stop and go traffic. Not great for parking though. Are the brakes applied as hard as possible on all four wheels or just the P brake on the rear wheels ??

caffeine (921hp) | I use Auto H a lot and really like it in slow moving traffic... It would be nice to have the option to turn the brake lights on or off at night when hold is engaged. Deactivation would make it more comfortable for the driver following in traffic jams or in a queue....

Exactly the same thought has often come to mind, but I guess because it applies the brake pedal , as opposed to parking brake, legally speaking, the brake light must be on. Other than that, I agree that it is a very effective system and extremely useful in traffic.

colgate1 (619hp) | vdubturbo, I have to agree with Just a PITA if you forget it's on and try to maneuver into a parking spot, I've started using this feature, very handy when you're crawling in stop traffic -bumper to bumper, but entering a parking space, etc. is a generally fails, I like to let the Auto slowly push the car while the foot is lightly on the brake....go too slow and the auto-h stops you in mid park, a real PITA

I used it yesterday and today for the first time. Great at long lights and stop and go traffic, but it totally got me while parking this morning. Instead of letting the car move through space on its own, I had to use the gas pedal to move forward a few inches. Not good when trying to approach a wall... Like auto start/stop, we are the test cases on these features. I'm sure future versions of these 2 features will be much more refined and intelligent

shepard (55hp) | I checked the crawling thing this morning on my way to work. This definitely doesn't happen. I stopped smoothly with the brake applied at minimal pressure. He held on. I repeated it two more times and no crawling here.

1219 (701hp) | Those of you who complain about the self-holding behavior during parking maneuvers: that's why you need Parking Assistant now! Auto hold means you can no longer parallel park on your own.

And I think I combined that with moving my hands too fast and not being able to get the car into gear because I didn't put my finger on the shift button. The car didn't move AND the iDrive screamed at me. Completely brilliant. Quote: I checked this crawling thing this morning on my way to work. This definitely doesn't happen. But once I add another album to my iPod, the album art of this new album does not appear on my navigation screen. It shows it on the iPod screen and in iTunes, but not on the navigation screen. Only album art for albums that were on my iPod the first time I connected it to my BMW are displayed on the navigation screen. Does it need a connection reset or anything to show the new album art ??

13021989 (885hp) | it could be due to your iTunes version or the way it stores album art, as the previous poster said, make sure you sync the album art to the iPod. to check if iTunes is storing the artwork incorrectly... assuming you are putting the album through iTunes, follow these steps: - search for the album on Amazon, click on the album cover that Amazon displays and save the jpg (usually 300x300) on your PC/laptop - turn on Ituens, connect the iPod - find the album cover in the songs, click it once then right click Get Info - in the box that appears, you should see an empty square on the right side that you can drag and drop the album you are simply uploading into. - drag the album art and click Yes to the message that warns about updating multiple items... basically, manually adding album art, like this, embeds the cover art for each track I think - sync the iPod, disconnect then try in the car.... can you see the cover art for this album now? I found an article on Google a while ago that explained why iTunes did this... I can't remember if it was a bug in a specific version of iTunes or an option that you have to check/uncheck it in iTunes preferences....if I find it, I'll post the link here. all I know is that I followed the process above for some of my albums that were doing strange things with the album art and that seems to fix the problem..

13579000 (394hp) | The USB armrest doesn't provide enough current to charge 3.5 hard drives, requiring about 1.4A to get it started from a standstill. that's why you see these 2 USB sockets for external 3.5 drives. nothing will burn if you plug a 3.5 external drive into the USB armrest, the hard drive won't spin, that's it. 2.5 drives don't require as much power and will run on the USB armrest. The only problem with using the hard drive in the car is in winter and summer, where the temperature exceeds/below the rated temperature, which may cause damage or drop in performance. the best is to use an SSD or a large USB stick.

sausages1 (564hp) | Hi guys, I've had my f11 535d msport for about six weeks now and I'm really enjoying it. However, one thing bothers me. I have the Surround View pack which is great but is there a way to have it so the front parking sensors automatically turn on at low speeds rather than having to shift into reverse first. I just find it annoying that they aren't on when I pull into my garage on the way home. Well done guys.
|
alaska12 (320hp) | No, no way to change. I also find this very annoying. I'm still not used to the fact that I have to activate it when I arrive somewhere. I guess if they were always on they would come on at stoplights and in bumper to bumper traffic.?
|
fucku123 (490hp) | This is also how it works on the X5. I had a Lexus that had the front sensors on all the time and it was worse because they would go off every time the bumper was dirty or someone walked in front of the car. The way Lexus implemented it, you could only disable the entire system (front and rear) in this scenario. The BMW system works better IMO.

You don't need to shift into reverse to activate the sensors...just press the P (parking sensor) button next to the gear lever when entering the garage..
|
perro123 (997hp) | This is how it should work. You definitely don't want this thing rolling around in, say, bumper-to-bumper traffic, etc. That would be a nuisance! So it makes sense to manually activate the sensors before..
|
florencia1 (756hp) | At first it also seemed strange to me, that the front sensors don't activate at low speeds unless you reverse or press the P button, but after a while it makes sense. You really don't need it for parking out front, unless the spot is really tight. Now when I drive a Mercedes it's annoying because it always beeps. When I enter my garage and the car detects the sides of the garage door, any parking space I park in will move forward as the car detects cars on either side until I straighten out, and at red lights when people walk in front of the car. I prefer the BMW method now. But everyone has their preferences.

alyssa08 (738hp) | Thanks guys, I have to say I prefer the Mercedes system, you just have to remember to keep your distance a little in heavy traffic, but I'm sure I'll get used to it like I did in my Audi rs6.

555550 (590hp) | The BMW system is superior, when I need it I press a button, otherwise the majority of false alarms that interrupt the music or conversation are avoided..

I would have to agree. I drove a friend's Mercedes for a few days a while ago and it drove me crazy not being able to turn it off in many situations. The best compromise though would be if it was an option in Idrive. Then everyone could adjust it however they wanted..

shakila (18hp) | Why don't you go back to your garage?

ginger22 (125hp) | Completely agree with this idea. There seem to be options for everything else.

Although I wasn't happy about pressing a button on my F10 to activate the front sensors, I remember the time when I was in Asia in an MB and that sensor would go off every few seconds, when 'a car was too close or a dog was running. near your car at a red light, or a scooter or motorcycle cyclist has approached. I like the BMW way and I'm getting used to it. It's there when you need it but not in front of you.

OSK77 (70hp) | Hi guys, I've had my f11 535d msport for about six weeks now and I'm really enjoying it. However, one thing bothers me. I have the Surround View pack which is great but is there a way to have it so the front parking sensors automatically turn on at low speeds rather than having to shift into reverse first. I just find it annoying that they aren't on when I pull into my garage on the way home. Well done guys.
|
rainyday (143hp) | No, no way to change. I also find this very annoying. I'm still not used to the fact that I have to activate it when I arrive somewhere. I guess if they were always on they would come on at stoplights and in bumper to bumper traffic.?
|
kneepuck (778hp) | This is also how it works on the X5.

BobDyl (415hp) | This is how it should work. You definitely don't want this thing rolling around in, say, bumper-to-bumper traffic, etc. That would be a nuisance! So it makes sense to manually activate the sensors before..

tippmann (619hp) | I think the replica will cost around $2,000, painted and installed for the entire set. This is a conservative assumption. they are already available. Once I install the front bumper, I will let you know the quality and compatibility..
