223qwe (881hp) | @Hinckley, you can have a body shop paint it the color of your choice if your local BMW does not have an in-house paint shop. To those who say to take the back too, you really say this: it's better than that: or even that? I have a weakness for the second

|
a87654321 (925hp) | If you get the front and rear bumpers, it looks like you should also get the side rocker panels. They have a subtly different shape to integrate with the lines created by the M-Sport rear bumper..

I would say a complete set if it wasn't for the fact that the rear of the M-Sport looks like what I bought for the front and sides of the M-Sport and got a rear from the one of the suppliers..
|
19941995 (813hp) | Or at least get an aftermarket rear bumper or diffuser if you want to add the m-sport front bumper. Otherwise it's just too aggressive looking for the factory rear.
|
151092 (784hp) | I like the rear of the M Sport the best, especially on a white car. This gives the rear an aggressive and svelte appearance. The majority of kits seem horrible to me because they are excessive. My vote: go factory, go complete kit or leave as is. It's a nice car anyway..

asdfx (901hp) | I have a v1 for radar and laser detection and am looking for a laser jammer. The Laser Interceptor has favorable reviews. http://www.laser-interceptorusa.com/ Does anyone have experience with this or other devices?
|
06051983 (244hp) | I have Laser Interceptor Quad and have experience with other units as well. Here's my take: 1) Laser Interceptor is by far the best laser jammer on the market. It is the only one to be equipped with laser diodes and it is much more successful at jamming than the other products. The Blinder M47 comes close but is not as powerful. The laser interceptor can also integrate V1 alerts and give you a voice announcement of radar signals from the V1 (e.g. K-band detected). 2) The difference between the Blinder and the laser interceptor is both the strength of the jamming pulse and the radius it covers. . Blinder works well for small cars like Series 3. On larger cars you will be pierced by lidar guns at certain distances. 3) Do not buy the Escort product. I got it first (came with my Passport 9500Ci) and it's pretty much useless for a car this size. This may help if you have a black Z4 with hazy headlights, but on a 5er it won't help you at all. 3) Editing is essential. Most installed Laser Jammers, whether it's a Laser Interceptor or a lowly ZR4, simply don't work. To work properly, they must be aligned straight and level. If they are pointing skyward or down a road, or sideways toward the field, then it won't work. They also need to have a clear view because they reflect light back to the lidar gun. If you hide it in the grid, that won't work either. When they are aligned correctly, they are like magic. 4) It is essential to test them. I drove my car down a country road, while an enthusiast shot at my car with 5 different Lidar guns. This process initially told me that the ZR4 did not work at ranges less than 1,700 feet. The second time with the laser interceptors, the guy couldn't read the front, but was able to read my speed on the back at ranges over 300 feet. I checked the alignment and it was wrong. I fixed the alignment, and now no more reading on the back at any distance. Also, no reading on the front at any distance. I tested it on both flat and undulating surfaces, and in both cases – no speed reading at any distance. That's what you want: rock-solid performance. Many installers will focus on aesthetics: hiding the laser jammers behind the grille or mounting them too low to make them invisible. Don’t do this – if you’re going to spend the money, do it in a way that makes it work. Otherwise, don't bother. Here are the rules of thumb: 1) Mount as close as possible to the headlight and grille (most reflective parts of the car) 2) Use a spirit level to make sure the lenses are level with the ground. 3) Use a stick or string to ensure that the steering is aligned with the longitudinal axis of the car, that is, the straight line between the jammer heads should be perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. 4) Test with a real lidar gun before signing off on the installation. You can find enthusiasts to help you at radardetector.net. Here is a link to photos of my installation. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-t...er-jammer.html

I don't find voice alerts annoying at all, quite useful in fact. Although sometimes I'm on the phone hands free and the car says something like Red Light Camera forward or Kustom prolaser 3 jamming sequence started and the person on the other side wonders what's going on. 06061977 (977hp) | From the beginning, I was under the impression that the steering and chassis would feel the same with the DDC/toggle switch in sport or sport+, the only difference being that stability control is limited in sport+. With the recent steering articles, I looked at sport+ more this morning and the steering and chassis seemed stiffer in sport+ compared to sport, especially the steering. I'll have to check that out. Views? I don't know if this feeling is due to the adaptive driving of my F10, if it is the case with the DDC or if I'm wrong (but the steering was certainly stiffer). By the way, how limited is stability in sports+?
|
kelvin123 (388hp) | The suspension and steering are both stiffer in Sport+ than Sport in my 550i with DHP and IAS. These 2 packages are superb.
|
cabriolet (247hp) | Interesting observations. Some data seems to suggest that only the DTC function (allows greater rear wheel slip) is triggered in sport+. Quote: Driving dynamics control. Touch the switch again to enter SPORT+ mode where Dynamic Stability Control allows for increased rear wheel slip. I re-read some BMW press releases and the following comment can be read while all functions are enhanced. Quote: Driving Dynamics Control provides four standard settings that adapt the vehicle's behavior to different moods. The settings are Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport+. Affected vehicle settings include engine throttle response, shift characteristics, power steering assist level and Dynamic Traction Control mode (in Sport+ setting). Can read this comment as changed settings and a DTC in sport+. This is another interesting statement in the release under the EPS section. Quote: ....In the Sport+ mode of the Driving Dynamics Control and with the DSC deactivated, the degree of steering force is slightly increased depending on the desired driving style. So it looks like there are additional settings when using sport+. Whether it is clearly active or more reactive should be fairly easy to establish through observation and sensation. HighlandPete

I traveled over 300 miles to drive a few cars with integrated active steering, since none were available where I live. I like the 550's usual steering, but the IAS has made it even nicer, making the car smaller and more maneuverable all around. I especially like the improved turning radius. Needless to say my 550i came with DHP and IAS..

ktyxbr (115hp) | Quote: Originally posted by dgmc Hi Jon D, Any update on your sport+ test? When I first switched from sport to sport+, I noticed an immediate difference, but that was because I had sport mode set to chassis only mode. I then set the sport to chassis and transmission mode and switching to sport+ mode I felt no difference. However, I'm not starting too much yet, but I will explore more in depth as I gradually accumulate miles. I now have about 1.5K on the clock and I'm starting to open up more often, but I'm still slowing down to 4K RPM and haven't tried the kickdown yet. The 35d engine is a dream and I continue to be amazed by the performance. But the significant problem that remains for me is the vagueness of the central steering, which makes the car tend to disconnect unless you constantly correct. It's a huge disappointment for what is otherwise a very good car and I'm not sure I can cope with the problem..

Regarding the blur in the center, do you mean that the f10 wanders (left and/or right) while driving straight while the steering wheel is not turned/remains stable?

Hi Jon, I ordered the 550i M Sport, is there a service break-in, or just a mileage break-in?.

No break-in service for the 35d and I assume the same goes for the 50i, but the manual will give break-in recommendations. The most important aspect is to vary the revs, rather than just sitting at a constant speed..

198106 (179hp) | For the first 1,200 miles on the 550, the driver must: not exceed 100 mph, not exceed specified revs, and not operate the car at a constant speed..

rox (127hp) | From the beginning, I was under the impression that the steering and chassis would feel the same with the DDC/toggle switch in sport or sport+, the only difference being that stability control is limited in sport+. By the way, how limited is stability in sports+?

crawfish (39hp) | The suspension and steering are both stiffer in Sport+ than Sport in my 550i with DHP and IAS. These 2 packages are superb.

sashas (246hp) | Interesting observations.

Interesting - my 535d M is now two weeks old and I covered the first 1000 kilometers this afternoon. I think it's enough to take a spin in sport+ on those twisty Welsh roads tomorrow - I'll let you know how I get on. I'd get back in the car right now if it wasn't for this glass of wine in my hand .

I traveled over 300 miles to drive a few cars with integrated active steering, since none were available where I live. I like the 550's usual steering, but the IAS has made it even nicer, making the car smaller and more maneuverable all around. I especially like the improved turning radius. Needless to say my 550i came with DHP and IAS..

pepsi11 (275hp) | Quote: Originally posted by dgmc Hi Jon D, Any update on your sport+ test? When I first switched from sport to sport+, I noticed an immediate difference, but that was because I had sport mode set to chassis only mode. Shifting to sport+ automatically engages the transmission sharpening, resulting in a downshift, which is what I initially felt.

No break-in service for the 35d and I assume the same goes for the 50i, but the manual will give break-in recommendations. ironman123 (269hp) | Just a quick note to say that we picked up our new 520D last night. We ordered it just before our trip to Canada in early August and it arrived on Friday. Nothing special spec-wise, 520D, Alpine White with black leather interior, heated seats, 18 V-spoke and folding mirrors. I have to say it is simply stunning and the white makes it look massive and this comes from a Volvo estate family! I'll take some photos and post them soon. Well done S

lina123 (233hp) | Hey, congratulations. May I ask, is it manual or automatic? I ordered my 520d [auto] on August 1st and was told it was delayed due to a shortage of auto boxes from the BMW supplier. Well done Jonny
