The only problem was a broken pressure plate ($200) and a thermostat ($500, billed under warranty). So if anything, I'd wear this thing every day, but my eyes are still set on something exotic. The fun of owning multiple cars has already worn off, lol

Buy a 2014/2015 for $70,000, drive it for two years, and sell it for $68,000. Owners of brand new early models have never lost anything. 2327 (136hp) | Update! I'm still waiting for the dealer to call me. Last week they said it would most likely be today, so I'm hoping for the best. I want to order an M5 style carbon fiber diffuser, install my grills and carbon fiber mirrors, and reinstall the stock ///M sport rims once I paint them gloss black. I'm still undecided whether I should sell the car. The new engine will probably cost money.
|
cody08 (587hp) | I just dropped my car off at the dealer. It makes really loud knocking noises and throws all sorts of errors on iDrive. My technician already suspected that it could be related to the rod bearing. It's still under CPO warranty and I'm hoping to get a new engine. Regardless of what happens, it's up for sale as soon as I get it back as I'm looking for a new, winter-ready everyday car (most likely an SUV). I will keep everyone updated. This is the fourth dealer visit in the short two months I've owned the car, lol. On the bright side, I can drive my M6 more

1whatever (655hp) | I just received a call from my SA. A really great call! They ordered me a brand new engine and will also replace the turbos. All for a measly $50 co-pay haha. I can't wait to get it next week. I'm still thinking about selling it just because I really want a GT-R. I'm happy to sell it with all the trimmings for the price I bought it for, which is $26,500. You get a brand new engine and new turbos!

Especially since you are most likely getting the BMW Crate N63B44A which has an updated timing chain, valve seals, bearings, etc. But also GT-R = Win. However, I'm not sure about the reliability aspect.

I just feel the need to address one more thing as this is a big problem for me. Sensatech or whatever Sensa-Cool/Tech name BMW gives it, and I can't stress this enough, is not a luxury material, never has been and never will be. It's not an upgrade over *any* luxury. There is one and only one reason for its existence: price. It allows manufacturers to spend less. hellosimon (421hp) | Of course real leather is better than Sensatec. However, for me it's a free upgrade over standard plastic in F10. Softer and more visually appealing. I had just driven a friend's Ranger Rover Evoque and the dashboard was Sensatec. To say that Sensatec is of too poor quality for a car whose basic version cost less than 40,000 euros is probably expecting too much

langley (32hp) | I came to the BMW brand about 18 years ago because of the way the cars drive, even though they are big enough to accommodate a whole family. I see there's been more discussion here about what type of plastic the dashboard is made of and how good the buttons feel, but not nearly enough about the driving experience. I've only seen one post about driving dynamics. And we (or at least some of us) wonder why BMW is selling out the dynamics of driving...

Good fit and finish, luxury and driving dynamics (for its class) to remain competitive. Driving dynamics alone will not sell the car in this class. However, I agree with you that driving dynamics are very important. However, it has been discussed in many other threads. This thread started with a discussion about exterior design, and I derailed it a bit by talking about the G30 interior compared to the F10. BMW is known to have watered down its offering, offering cars for everyone, with an emphasis on comfort and technology, with the 5 and 7 Series models focusing more on luxury than driving dynamics. They have sales numbers to back them up, and they don't seem to care that they've built their reputation primarily on driving dynamics. For those whose primary criterion is driving dynamics (I am one of them), they would be better off learning about different configurations and trying to find the perfect setup (suspension, drivetrain and various options such as DHP, Active Steering, etc.). . Many BMWs still drive great, but getting it right isn't easy these days.

music4u (468hp) | The G30 is a better car overall. It's hard to argue about that. The F10 still looks great, especially with LED headlights. E60 looked worse when F10 was introduced. So those of you keeping the F10 can rest assured that it's still a great looking car
|
1country (776hp) | Agreed. The F10 now doesn't look as dated as the E60 did when the F10 came out. If you ask which is better, the G30 is. If you're wondering whether it's worth upgrading from an F10 (if you own it and don't lease it), that's a different story.

royalflush (726hp) | There is no reason to worry about the next production model. The lead designer of G30, Karim Habib, is now gone: https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...am?sprach=de Jacek Fröhlich, the designer of F10, looks like he's still there work. It would have been nice if the new G30 had been designed much like Fröhlich's early F10 sketches below, but taller and with less aggressive lines:

kirsten1 (160hp) | In three years most of these members who downplay the G30 will be in one or looking at one once their F10 bites the dust. I personally hate the rear of the car, but I won't say the car is hideous. Because that would be far from the truth. I thought the E60 M5 was a very ugly car before I looked at one and was attracted to other things (mainly the V10). The G30 is a nice car and I'll wait for the price to come down before I even look at one. I never buy a brand new car.

jordan29 (450hp) | Yes, it is a time-consuming process. I will be packing up my M6 mirrors in a few days and also making the 550i mirrors. If all goes well I can try to make a DIY for the F10.

holyghost (507hp) | Pretty!!! looks great. I want to darken the trim around my door panels, but I like how the rest of the chrome around the car matches the rims. Those 269 style wheels (not for F10) looked incredible on this car. I paid $1500 CAD for it with almost new PSS rubber, a great deal. Let me know what you think!

BigDeep1 (902hp) | Order some parts for the rear of the car. Both visually and functionally. Here is a scroll from last weekend from my friend's wedding

xyj44pe3GV (231hp) | 2011 N63 – I really want to get everything I can get done in the next few months before my CPO expires. I'd like to get new turbos as mine seem to be a bit noisy, but I don't have any error code other than p12a9 - and I'm not sure that warrants a replacement. Any thoughts on what this code might mean?
|
feranmi (289hp) | The only thing I can think of is pouring some water into the turbos, that will fix the problem. You may be able to get a new engine.

201089 (314hp) | I have a 2011 BMW F10 528i and recently my air conditioning turned off and on again. I'm driving and the air conditioning turns on for about 10 minutes and then starts again. I live in Florida so 10 minutes is a long time, it gets hot quickly. I've done some research and most of the information I've researched seems to point to a bad power amp resistor. My problem now is that every website I've searched for a replacement says the replacement is for cars from 3/2011 and my F10 was manufactured on 08/20/2010. Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance

jobs123 (611hp) | I finally got my hands on a nice set of M5 silencers from a member here. While I'm waiting for the BMW body shop to call and tell me that the paint job on my stock M5 diffuser is complete, I'm trying to figure out the final parts before taking the car to the muffler shop. For those who have already been through this, two questions for you: How did you manage to install the M5 diffuser before removing the original mufflers? This is the obvious first step for the shop to install the M5 silencers, but how did you do it? Since the valves are on opposite sides of the 550i muffler, I assume you'll need longer vacuum lines. I really doubt the muffler shop will have these on hand, so I want them beforehand. Where should I get these from? Does anyone know the diameter and length requirements??
|
HurlingFrootmig (329hp) | I don't know if you need the under bumper adapter for the 550. I'm assuming you have the stakes. If it's a good muffler repair shop, they should know what to do. Make sure the tips are where you want them. Some stores leave them too far in or too far out. Remove the tips or wrap them with tape to prevent them from getting scratched. Remember to remove the tape after installation. I wouldn't buy anything expensive for the vacuum lines. Auto parts stores should be able to help. The hoses are easy to get from O'Reilly. Ask about the 1/8 ID rubber vacuum hose. They sell it by the foot and behind the counter. Should be about 50 cents per foot. The adapters/connectors to add your extensions are inexpensive. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...1168&ppt=N1171

Installing the diffuser is super easy, you just need patience. I took my rear bumper off so the tabs lined up perfectly (ebay). With an M5 diffuser and stock mufflers it looks kind of weird. I can't help you with that. I have a 535 so I just opened my valves.

151180 (507hp) | Thank you for every contribution. I installed everything last weekend and it's working. As for the hoses, I don't have any O'reilly nearby and neither Advance Auto nor AutoZone have had anything good. Both only carry a very thin vacuum hose that looks like it will break in a week. I ended up buying it from Amazon (http://a.co/9WlVpCc) and it is very thick, durable and heat resistant. Maybe exaggerated, maybe not, but it looks professional and puts me at ease. As for the hose connection, I chose Dorman Help! 47300. It works, but the construction leaves little confidence in its durability. I found some brass models that I ordered on Amazon this week (http://a.co/4QIIeFR) and will be replacing the Dormans with these when they arrive. As for installing the diffuser, I was surprisingly able to complete all of the preparatory work for installing the comfort access before taking the car to the exhaust shop. The original stock 550i diffuser fits back into the car with the newly installed M5 comfort access adapter, giving me time to visit the workshop and install the M5 mufflers. When I got to the shop they cut off the original mufflers and called me to the shop to replace the diffusers. Took less than 2 minutes. All in all very happy with the facility. I'm amazed at how good it sounds now when starting up, cruising and pulling out. It really sounds like a V8 now. The only complaint I have (just one) is that while there is no real roar, the hum can definitely be heard at low revs. It's subtle but noticeable when the engine is running around 1,000 rpm. It's much more noticeable in Eco mode, but I rarely drive it. Again, it's not bad compared to high quality aftermarket exhausts I've tried on other cars in the past (Eisenmann, Remus, etc.). For the price you pay for this setup and the incredibly great sound you get, it's still a win-win. I'm sure Dinan has worked to eliminate that hum, but then again their mufflers don't sound as good or as loud with your foot down as the stock M5 mufflers on the 550i, not to mention that they would have cost me seven times as much

caca11 (190hp) | In December 2015 my 2011 550i broke down at 95,000 miles and needed a new engine. In July 2016 I traded it in for a CPO 2013 535 msport. Three weeks ago my son was driving the 535i and drove through standing water after five days of rain. The engine was hydrolocked and needed a new engine. This time the insurance paid. Must be some kind of record !
|
player3 (381hp) | I don't know what to say. Add a lol? I mean, uh... But hopefully you didn't end up out of pocket 2011?

livewire1 (613hp) | And the common denominator is.....
|
jess22 (624hp) | Driving through a large amount of water and causing an engine to hydrolock is considered user error rather than an indication of the possible unreliability of BMW engines.
|
yv3bcdaq (679hp) | Agreed - user error. But the water was only ankle deep (10-12 cm). The car's air intake is very low.
|
bowhunter (468hp) | 335I got a new motor due to dealer damage (a bracket broke off). 550i got a new engine (used) due to bearing damage. I'd have to look at the paperwork for the 335i, but both were within a year, more like 6 months ago... Sigh...
|
vaiska (468hp) | My 550i needs a new engine due to a connecting rod bearing failure...at 44,000! It also has 44,000 well-maintained miles...it is still under the extended maintenance plan and has a CPO warranty. My next 5 Series will be an N63tu, or maybe a G30 when prices come down.
|
animal12 (272hp) | Quote: Originally posted by sj_carr Agreed – user error. But the water was only ankle deep (10-12 cm). The car's air intake is very low. The only way the water got into the intake was because the car was driven through the water too fast. The lack of common sense ruined the engine.
|
victor01 (230hp) | My goodness, I haven't even been on the road with my 550 Xi for 14 days and you're scaring the hell out of me... connecting rod bearing damage... woW.
|
hollister7 (925hp) | I've had 2 535i's for 1,000 miles, both 2013, on both JB4 2s with downpipes. The first time I did a total of 28,000, drove daily and always changed lanes once or twice a day, never had a problem. A side road next to my house collects about 4-5 water during heavy rain and I always ride hydroplane style and have never had a single problem. I do the same with the second 535i, it has done 24,000 miles, still no problems. I mean, not a single damn code for a powertrain malfunction or misfire or this and that! But I always use Mobile 1 0W40 .
