I did the same thing on my Integra when I installed some coilover sleeves and those shocks broke after a few years.

I'm a fan of coilovers and have used them often on many cars I've owned and modified, so I know the benefits. My thread was just about finding out first hand from anyone on this forum who has the setup I'm talking about (standard with springs) who can give me direct feedback before I get the trigger for some from a forum member H&R Sports press here. I've searched extensively and the only feedback I've read is from people who have adjustable suspension or from 550s with standard suspension. I have a 528 with standard and non-adjustable or sport mode. The deal is really cheap and I can also have them installed for free, so the cheap factor outweighs the extra $1,000-$2,000 for coilovers since I spent some on Alpina stuff. If anyone who rides this exact setup can respond with direct feedback, I would be grateful

Everyone at H&R who is happy has a way to customize their setup, and I don't. It looks like if I can't adjust anything I'll just have to move on to what I know best and just use coilovers on this car or have fun with the H&Rs until I get my Q3 bonus from work for coilovers or no springs just wait until then with coilovers. When modding, it's difficult to prioritize when trying to do everything at once. I don't particularly like this car either, after driving it for three weeks now. I still haven't installed my 21 Alpinas or the Alpina spoiler or the rear spoiler, so maybe I have a chance to sell the parts and upgrade to another satisfactory car. The only reason I bought it is because I like the look of the F10 Alpina B5, but I always thought I could make it look better with the 21" Alpina wheels rather than the smaller 20" Alpina bikes that look a little different. I saw a forum member here with the 21s, but he was missing a spoiler (Alpina or not) to better show them off or compliment them. I have a lot to think about.

cooler12 (958hp) | Since I have an xdrive, unfortunately only H&R or ACS springs are available. I've used Eibach in the past with good success, but it's different with every car/shock setup... In my case, ACS would probably be better, but they're also almost twice as expensive and the price drop is a bit smaller.

zcfvfzkexifz (960hp) | Sorry you're going through all this, but these types of stories are exactly why I sold my run-flat tires and replaced them with regular tires and installed a space saver tire and a small jack in my trunk. If I get a flat tire on the road, I deal with it the old-fashioned way. Pull off the road to a safe location (parking lot, gas station, etc.) and change the tire. If I'm wearing a suit or it's very cold outside, I can call AAA to have the tire changed. I just don't see the point in run flats. They're more trouble than they're worth.

My experience with RFTs is that they suck. Once you get a flat tire, you need to take action now to get it repaired. No spare wheel, may not be repairable and tires are not immediately available. So basically my car is sitting in the garage until installation on Tuesday. If I didn't have another mode of transportation, this weekend would really suck! I liked the old way with the substitute or a donut. At least one had a chance to finish their trip or be able to continue driving with a spare tire (unless you like being cheated... I definitely don't). One donut only lasts about 50 miles........

The other service centers such as BMW in Alexandria, Rockville or Passport do not seem to have any replacement parts available. By the way, I would rather have RFTs than a replacement in DC for two reasons. 1. Good luck driving a spare tire with all the crazy drivers and narrow roads. 2. You hit a pothole or drive over rough roads and the weight of the F10 destroys the spare tire. This somehow cannot be avoided here. I don't know how many times I have to drive over potholes because the traffic is so damn dense and these narrow streets feel like they were made for bikes. FYI: I've put a spare tire on my Infiniti before, and the next pothole it popped pretty much immediately. I drove almost 100 miles when my RFTs got a flat tire.

clown (938hp) | Are there any other novel uses for the memory buttons? Aside from the usual ones (home address and phone numbers), I use one to bring up the TPMS screen and another for the sport watch faces. I like the idea of bringing up the sound/equalizer and turning the navigation voice on and off.

Damn, you made me re-evaluate my buttons!

No, but considering how rarely I use the middle ones, which are usually tuned to radio stations I rarely listen to anyway, I really should find better ways to use them that would save me iDrive clicks like you do. When I had a long commute to work every day, I used it more often, switching between different stations for traffic information, etc., but no more. Profiles would be a good idea for me if that were possible, as I often drive my wife's car and her habits (not locking the door is the usual cause in my opinion) also cause the memory on my key to be badly messed up often happens.

stamps (522hp) | I installed my P3 vent gauge this weekend. These were released late last month. The installation took about 30 minutes and is just as easy as the installation video. I purchased the gauge already installed in the vent so I can go back to the stock vent if needed. You will need a T20 Torx bit to remove the vent from the dashboard. Removing the vent from the dash is the hardest part, but not difficult. It connects to the OBD port via plug and play and has digital boost, vacuum, rpm, speed, coolant temperature, throttle position, battery, air intake temperature and EGT functions. Also features a 0-60 timer and other features. I was looking for a boost and would like a coolant temperature gauge. Affordable and works as advertised. I'm curious to see what exact boost the Dinan S3 will bring. Further information can be found here: http://www.p3cars.com/catalog/f10/
|
shrikrishna (543hp) | Looks good, but was hoping for an actual boost gauge and not just an OBD2 parameter gauge.
|
kagome (947hp) | It's difficult to get a boost tap for an analog meter on the 550. I remember someone posted about adding one, but it took some faking to get a hold.
|
aria (198hp) | Finally! I've been inquiring about it since January and they said it would be ready in the summer.

cedic (166hp) | How did you route the cable to your OBD port? Is it hidden? Thanks.

100287 (342hp) | Quote: Originally written by mercury How did you route the cable to your OBD port? Is it hidden? Thanks. Yes, the wiring is hidden. Remove the plastic panel on the side of the dashboard and all cables and connectors are out of sight. Here is a link to the installation video.
|
lupetto (421hp) | Does anyone else use the P3 or the analog boost pressure gauge? With the Dinan S3 I'm looking at about 12.2 pounds of boost. curious about what others see.
|
09021986 (152hp) | I have achieved a boost pressure reading of more than 10 psi using p3cars gauges. The page below comparing an N63 engine (440 hp/450 lbs-ft) states that the maximum boost pressure is 11.6 psi. http://www.**************** *.com/community/threads/engine-shootout-mercedes-m278-w212-e550-versus-bmw-n63-f10-550i.46889/

|
tye (609hp) | Quote: Originally written by leewoods18. Dinan says inventory is up 9.8 pounds. I seem to remember the 9.8lb stock for the 2011/12 F10. Sounds like the power increase of the newer N63 (440 hp) has been increased.
|
megan4 (727hp) | Unfortunately I didn't have a way to data log before flashing, but at level 2 it looks like it's closer to 14 psi. Since there is no physical boost gauge on the P3 product, your gauge should show the same information as the Bavarian Technic unit I used here. Try 3rd gear and pull at WOT from about 3,000 rpm to close to the red line and see the gauge read its maximum value.
