121181 (245hp) | If you have active cruise control, you also get the car symbol indicating that you are potentially going to hit the car in front of you, or it may indicate that the car in front of you is preventing you from driving at the selected speed. This one is orange in color. basically repeats what you see on your instrument cluster, but in color as shown in the previous screenshot or if at night, its color is entirely orange to match your instrument cluster. everything is very good and I drive with it all the time.
|
debbie12 (735hp) | The arc/line symbol basically means the cruise control is on, it will disappear i.e. when braking or pressing the I/O button. The line is only part of the symbol, it does not move. When setting a new CC speed or activating CC, the preset speed will appear in small numbers below this arc, then disappear again after a few seconds..

thejoker (357hp) | Yes, please post some photos, it doesn't suit me. Basically it will just display your speed and control messages which, to be honest, are either white (day) or orange (night). The additional information is based on what you have specified for your car. so nav will obviously only show if you have nav installed, the fact that you have HUD I guess that's the case anyway. As questionable published, the navigation should be in color during the day and its thunderstorm at night. Then there are other optional features if you have them installed, speed limit display, lane departure (I guess - I don't have that), active cruise control symbols at - above what the standard cruise control shows you. I remember there was an auto/day/night mode I think in the navigation settings, but I guess that only applies to the LCD screen. very strange though.

070777 (927hp) | Should my f10's HUD be in color?? I have a 2012 535xi. I remember it should be...for some reason my HUD is always only white or orange...is it because it's a Canadian car? Did BMW make a mistake when ordering? I'm so confused right now...what kind of colors/images should I put on my windshield? i want to know if something is wrong with mine..i had to pay $1500 CAD for it..

18021991 (646hp) | All, I just bought a msport 530d and I have a Nokia 6303i phone. According to the BMW website, when I enter my VIN, this phone is supported with everything, including the essential I was looking for, a plug-in adapter. However, when I wanted to buy said adapter, I was told that it was not compatible with my car, probably because of the combox. so the website seems inaccurate. Is there another source of compatibility? What does after-sales service refer to? Has anyone else encountered inaccuracies regarding Bluetooth information, particularly plug-in adapters.?

give (9hp) | Hi friends, I have a 528 2011 and Android phone. I was quite intrigued by the BMW Office feature, but was disappointed that there wasn't good support for all major US telcos for Android phones. As you probably know, BMW Office requires a Bluetooth MAP profile and most phones don't include it, so there didn't seem to be any ability for non-BB users to use the Office functionality. I'm happy to announce that XDA developers have fixed this issue and included the Bluetooth MAP profile in the Cyanogenmod 9 nightly ROM!! With this ROM, I was able to pair my phone to the car to display and read SMS messages to the car. I haven't had much luck with email even though iDrive shows me email-related options. I suspect my email is not showing up due to security issues. with our Exchange email. However, I need to do more research on this. In order to get the BT MAP profile and at least get SMS messages working, here are the steps I followed. Please note that 1) All credit goes to XDA Developers and their ability to resolve this issue. 2) I am not responsible for any problem that happens to your phone or car if you follow this procedure. In other words, you do this at your own risk!! 3) I'm just listing the steps I took to make other BMW drivers aware of this possibility. Now if you have a rooted Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone then you can install CM9-nightly update-cm-9-20120423-NIGHTLY-maguro-signed.zip available at http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?dev... o&type=nightly If you don't have a rooted Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone (like I did until yesterday), here are the steps: In short, 1) You need to root your phone and install a custom recovery 2) Install CM9-nightly update-cm-9-20120423-NIGHTLY-maguro-signed.zip available at http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?dev...o&type=nightly In detail, 1) Download the GNex toolbox from XDA at http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1392310. It's a Swiss army knife for doing a lot of things with your phone. 2) Backup your phone with a method of your choice. 3) Use GNEX toolkit and instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1392310 to -Unlock bootloader -Root your phone -Flash CWM Recovery 4 ) download Cyanogenmod 9 nightly update -cm-9-20120423-NIGHTLY-maguro-signed.zip from http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?dev...o&type=nightly 5) Install CM9 every night on your phone. I followed the instructions at http://www.theandroidsoul.com/instal...us-unofficial/ 6) Restart your phone Once your installation is complete, pair your phone with the car. Note 1: I didn't explicitly find an option in the BT profile on the phone or on iDrive to enable the MAP profile. However, after pairing the phone, under the Phone menu in iDrive, the screen showed which profiles were available (Phone & Audio). In the Office menu in iDrive, under Messages, there is now a new filter with an option to show only text messages or service messages (directions I sent from Google Maps). When I moved the iDrive controller to the far right, I had options to download emails!! 2nd note: The whole experience isn't as intuitive as I would have liked, but it's important to note that text messages now work. All you can see is a spinning wheel in the navigation system, so I couldn't really tell if the car was trying to read!

pentium_fun (255hp) | I agree. Hence my partial job title and only on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. For reasons best known to Samsung, they left some BT profiles available on other phones in their range..
|
sweetlover (196hp) | My HTC Sensation XE displays and reads SMS from day one and I only use the stock ROM. Are you sure nothing else has stopped you from taking advantage of this feature before?
|
jobless (769hp) | My original Samsung Galaxy S2 (Orange UK) ROM supports SMS messages, but NOT emails, calendar, notes, tasks or data via Bluetooth. I also have a Nokia 6700 Classic which, although not a real smartphone, is very compact and has reasonable battery life. While this doesn't support texting or email, the conferencing feature works well, as does the calendar, notes, and tasks. The calendar syncs well with my Google calendar. This Nokia also supports data via Bluetooth. I suspect we'll see more and more phones start to support the MAP profile, because it's not just BMW that needs it. All Ford vehicles also require MAP profile support to function properly. If only we could get a phone that supports them all.!!
|
imissyou2 (593hp) | Hello gentlemen, let me interject a little. I've been studying the features of Android and our F10 and thought I'd share what I know. Natively, official Google Android phones (Nexus One, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus) do not support Bluetooth MAP. However, OEM phones, such as the above-mentioned HTC Sensation, Galaxy S2, Evo 3D, HTC One . Initially, when Android was in Froyo/Gingerbread version, applications were allowed to read the phone's SMS and Email database and display them on our F10. However, Google has since locked the email database and no longer allows reading it, citing security concerns. Therefore, Bluetooth MAP can now only display SMS messages on our car, no more emails. Other F10 desktop functions besides SMS/Email, such as Calendar, Tasks, Diary..etc... use yet another Bluetooth profile known as SyncMLServer, which no Android phone supports to this day. However, it is supported by other phone brands, such as BlackBerry, Nokia N9, Windows Phone. I hope this explains why some phones work and others don't, even though they all run Android. Another investigation I did is why songs are autoplaying and auto-restarting from the beginning for A2DP connection. If anyone wants to know how to hack this on Android let me know.

thebest12 (200hp) | Quote: Posted by psyxologos Thank you very much rubik. Very useful article indeed. Please expand on the autoplay autostart story... Alright, my story is that I often listen to podcasts while I drive. One very frustrating thing that happens is that when I arrive at my destination and turn off my F10, it disconnects and when I get back into my car, the current track I'm listening to starts from the beginning. I'll be halfway through my hour-long podcast to see him start from the beginning, which is extremely annoying. I want it to pick up where it left off, I tried different apps and everything else and it wouldn't work. In the end, I found the perfect solution. What happens is when your phone connects to the car and if you are in Bluetooth source mode, the CAR sends a MEDIA_PLAY command to your phone. If you change modes (e.g. to FM radio), the car sends a MEDIA_PAUSE to the phone. When you return to the Bluetooth source, another MEDIA_PLAY is sent from the car to the phone. Now when you turn your car off, the car sends a MEDIA_STOP to the phone, which tells the phone to stop the current track and reset it to the start of the track. What I did was (root required) edit the file (only applicable to Android), edit the /system/usr/keylayout/AVRCP.kl file and change the Bluetooth mapping for MEDIA_STOP to MEDIA_PAUSE. This is the perfect solution and fixes the reset issue and now behaves exactly as I want. I don't know if anyone else has encountered this problem.'

I'm sorry if this seems "simple" or obvious, but wouldn't it be less difficult to just switch to the FM radio a few seconds before turning off the engine to trigger the Media_pause command? By the way, when I play music from my USB, the car remembers the exact point where the song was left and picks it up from there the next time I start the car. Is it different when streaming music via Bluetooth ??

moonlite (844hp) | This doesn't help. Even in Radio mode, when turning off the car, it sends the STOP command. I prefer to stream via my phone because I have another car (not a BMW) and continue listening where I left off. This car has no restart issues. It's a BMW thing

If only we could get a phone that supports them all.!!

buyse (645hp) | Hello gentlemen, let me interject a little.

Is it different when streaming music via Bluetooth ??

skank (136hp) | This doesn't help. Even in Radio mode, when turning off the car, it sends the STOP command. I prefer to stream via my phone because I have another car (not a BMW) and continue listening where I left off. This car has no restart issues. It's a BMW thing

pampa (472hp) | I usually ride at full throttle several times a day up to 60 or 70 mph. I know from experience that my e39 didn't like it: I needed a new transmission after three years. So my question is how robust is the 550i sport transmission? It's overbuilt and can it handle peak torque consistently? I know that driving something hard will shorten the lifespan, but I'm trying to find out how much is expected to be the case. THANKS.

nay123 (152hp) | It's best to do this at highway speed, it's much more taxing to go full throttle while standing still. I understand it's not as fun, and I hope you do this with the engine at full operating temperature. If you are a CCA member and receive Roundel magazine, the latest article on techtalk describes, due to the combination of low speed city driving of 2-3000 rpm, a suitable automatic transmission Fuel economy, fuel quality, and long oil change intervals, these things can negatively affect the crankcase ventilation system. The solution, it is beneficial to occasionally rev the engine at 4-6,000 rpm at highway speeds..

120304 (136hp) | I've had the 535d MS for a few months and I don't know how long it can last. The car has a lot of positives 1) I really like the way it looks. 2) The interior is beautiful. I've had a look at the current offerings from MB and Audi and they don't come close. I know some people may dispute this point, but there's really no dispute. 3) The toys are fantastic. There are however a number of problems 1) Management. The F10 is known for having lighter steering than the E60, but I opted for the integrated active steering without testing it first. I think this made the feedback even lighter/less. Even with the sport engaged in the sport auto gearbox, there is simply not enough feedback, it is too assisted. 2) The journey. This is a huge problem. On smooth roads it feels good, much better than my E60 M5. But as soon as it hits a big pothole, it loses the plot like my M5 never did. If I hit one of those big bumps in the middle of a corner, I pee my pants because the whole car feels like it's going to lose it. The suspension crashes and almost seems to bottom out in these kinds of situations. This seems to cause the whole car to wobble and become unstable. Smoother undulations in the road seem to unsettle the car and also make it unstable. The bottom line is that with the inert steering and unsteady ride on UK roads, I can't seem to make rapid progress in the way the engine is powered. I've only had the car for a few months, it's beautiful and the interior is head and shoulders above any offerings from MB or Audi. However the driving and steering issues annoy me so much that I'll probably get rid of them as soon as possible..

peewee3 (101hp) | I've put almost 7,000 miles in my 535d MS since September and I share your thoughts on the steering. My dealer helped me a lot by doing a full KDS alignment check, lending me larger wheels, and installing new steering software last week, but it remains as you, I, and several others have commented: detached, too light, vague in the center. and lack of feedback. I think this is because the steering is electrically assisted rather than hydraulic and it looks like it's here to stay. Last week I tested the new 640i for 24 hours and, although the steering was much quicker and had much higher levels of feedback, resulting in significantly improved handling, it still had that vague lack of feel on center, which required constant correction just to keep the car in a straight line. It's great fun to drive around a series of corners, but it feels a lot like the F10 on the highway and that's a huge disappointment for me as I was seriously considering the F12 as my next car. Out of curiosity, do you have an AD/VDC on your car ??
|
volcom11 (715hp) | THANKS. Syed, yes I have considered switching to non-running flats, maybe that is my next step. However, I have to be careful because there is no point wasting more money if I want to get rid of the car. Jon, I have IAS but not AD/VDC. You would have thought that since the steering is "electric", they could manipulate the software to improve the steering? By the way, how do you like the suspension? For me the suspension is imperfect for UK roads, some road imperfections can really cause the suspension to 'crash' and this throws off the whole balance of the car. I don't mind a firm ride, my M5's ride was very firm, but no matter what it hit on the road it never felt like it was crashing or like the suspension was bottoming out . This is only the second time in my life that I have bought a brand new car and it was a real disappointment. I really don't know what to do next.

This is only the second time in my life that I have bought a brand new car and it was a real disappointment. I really don't know what to do next. I find the suspension remarkably good for such a large car, but from what you say about your F10 it would seem that this is entirely down to the AD/VDC. I definitely notice a significant difference between the modes, especially when switching from normal to sport, as the body roll virtually disappears. However, I would prefer it to be harder, but the F10's setup was probably designed for less sporty driving. Again, this was confirmed while driving the F12 in that it had AD/VDC, but it was much firmer in all modes - much more like my old E92 330d MS in corners, until you wanted to maintain a straight-ahead cruise and that, I think, is due to the electric power steering. What we shouldn't forget is that the 535d engine and sport automatic transmission give rise to one of the highest performance transmissions on the market - all that effortless power at such low revs is incredible. The 640i (3 liter petrol unit similar or identical to the 535i) is very impressive, but it needs to be worked a lot harder and this resulted in my average of 22mpg (18mpg USA) on a 300 mile drive last week. The equally spirited drive reportedly returned 35 mpg in my 535d.

patrick4 (12hp) | I read this thread with interest and wonder if I know anything about cars anymore, because I just can't feel that much difference between the steering of my F11 and the E92 M-Sport or the E60 M-Sport before that. .yes it's lighter... which I like because it's a big car and it makes it easier to transport so I'm not saying I can't feel a difference but I don't feel that at all it's vague, especially in a straight line. I think the best way to describe it is when I'm driving my wife's Q5 or when I was driving the loaner 1 series I had last week, it was kind of the feeling you used to have have years ago when switching from a powerful car. direction towards a without… but not such an extreme difference. I guess the setup of the F11 is a bit different as I think it has different suspension at the rear so I don't know if that plays a role too, the F11 strangely sits on 245 tires all around on the 19 while I think the F10 on the 19 uses an offset pattern, 275 on the back I think? Suspension wise, the F11 is definitely the best BMW M-sport I've ever owned on UK roads... which is really bizarre and in total contrast to Indus' comments, so I 'guess if you're reading this forum as a potential buyer it's now more confusing than ever, I guess I just have to admit...I drive like a big wimp and I don't drive this car like if it was meant to be driven, but I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents because clearly some drivers have a much better feel for car dynamics like JonD and Indus have... while idiots like me don't don't do it for what I paid for mine, I could have had an M3 or similar but for me there is no point and it would be totally useless for me but... that's why the test drives are essential, so if you're reading this and considering buying...be honest with yourself, how you drive, and what's important to you in a car for your daily commute...then go for it try one. Everyone is different but that's okay.

I don't know if you're truly being self-deprecating, condescending, or just taking the s**t, but I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume the former. I haven't driven the F11 so can't comment on handling - the rear suspension is air ride/self-leveling and that might well make it different to the F10. Do you have an AD/VDC? On the plus side and as I've said before, the bigger diesels are great engines and coupled with the superb sports automatic gearbox they make for one of the best powertrains on the market. You are clearly happy with the car and that's all that matters.

discoid (213hp) | definitely self deprecating...I'm a good grand prix driver at traffic lights...that is, the straights but I'm not good at things that require finesse. keep thinking that one day I would like to take an instructor-led course on the track to learn more about braking and turning technique. but it’s still one of those things that I keep wanting to do. Don't get me wrong, the steering is different than any BMW I've owned, but for the way I drive it makes no difference and I've actually grown to like it. I don't have AD/VCD, just a standard M-sport on all 19 wheels. out of interest and without wanting to move on to the OT, I wonder how you would find the new M5??? if $$$ no item, would you like to test when it becomes available? I have yet to see the details of this car's suspension and steering setup. I guess it won't be an EPS based direction.
