Thanks Could you please explain how you got the iPhone to share text messages with the car via BT? I know I'm not answering your question but I'm following in your footsteps... Thank you!

octave (286hp) | On your iPhone, go to settings, notifications, view SMS on the lock screen. Every time you receive a message, a small envelope appears on your iDrive. Then send messages via desktop or phone or use voice command “messages”. Obviously your iPhone should already have a BT connection..

megamanx (974hp) | Hi everyone, I picked up my new F11 535d last Tuesday (December 02). It's a titansilver on 350M+ winter tires, black/feinschliff/leather dashboard interior and I received 373Ms for the summer on order. It also has all the cool toys on board. After the order waiting period, I was - like all of us - really excited like a little boy about a new toy and after bringing it home it really exceeded all my expectations. Everything that bothered me in my e92 335d coupe was better now. HOWEVER... Today, unfortunately, the BMW Joy is already A LOT lost since I had to bring it back to the garage two days and/or 217km later, because suddenly smoke from the engine was coming out of the hood and filling the passenger compartment through the air vents... First appearances say it is "probable" a fuel line problem (bluish-white smoke was coming out of the engine, a wet diesel line and the engine had a strong smell of burnt diesel.) I thought I already smelled exhaust fumes during or after a ride, but who thinks of a real problem on a new car? To be honest, at the time I thought it was going to burst into flames :-s This might be a minor issue though, and I know my dealer isn't at fault here... but I can't start to explain what a disappointment it is to me. I know this is long, but has anyone else had a problem similar to this? best regards, Koen

14111982 (265hp) | Well, speaking cautiously, I guess it's going just fine... you were right to keep it calm. Apparently the fuel return tube came loose from the engine, it probably wasn't 100% properly secured and because of the pressure put on the tube it broke. The returning fuel leaked onto the engine under the cover in a dent and because of the engine temperature it started boiling/burning/smoking. My dealer was very supportive. They repaired, checked, rechecked, steam cleaned the engine, cleaned the body again and presented it again on the delivery stand. Then when I got home this evening, I finally had the chance to show it to my lovely wife. I will try to pick up the BMW Joy soon, feeling that the power (for now) carefully hidden under the pedal will bring it back very soon I'm sure...the sound and feel of the engine is in no way comparable to those of the BMW Joy. my old 335d. adelka (305hp) | Thank God! I suppose you are a victim of the famous bathtub phenomenon. At the start of a machine's life, the risk of breakdown is greater since it is new, just as at the end of its life since it is worn. The Bimmer is made up of a few billion different parts that all have to fit together perfectly. Even when their assembly processes are 99.999999% capable, every once in a while they slip one up and it happens. Given the complexity of the car, it's almost a miracle that this doesn't happen more often in reality. Regardless, there is no memory in this phenomenon. Many owners believe there is causation at play and lose confidence in the vehicle. But it's like playing the lottery. It's not because you've already won one that your chances of winning the next one decrease, nor because you've never won one that your chances of winning one increase. Each event is independent. In short: this problem should indeed NOT compromise your pushing in the car in any way. Although there's a good chance that when a warning on your dashboard starts blaring, you'll say: I already knew this car was shit to begin with!...I'm a little sad though, you will not consider I exchange it for my 520d... it's perfectly fine!

I really like - the leather dashboard detail, - MFD with Adaptive Drive and HUD - New navi pro - lane departure warning - voice control - stop & go cruise control AND returned steering wheel controls I like less that - reactivated cruise control the steering wheel moved the volume buttons to the right of the steering wheel, I can't get used to it... - the upper door panels are not also covered in leather in the leather dashboard option (for a car in this price segment) - the HUD does not display the driving mode, the gear you are in or the RPMs (I think this is the case in the M5, no ?) Looking forward to riding the 373M when the weather improves ...

240787 (243hp) | I just sold my 2008 M3 in December for a 550i x-drive m sport. For around $8,000, add the Dinan S2 performance chip, Dinan suspension, and Dinan free-flow exhaust. Now the only thing I really miss about the M3 is the dual-clutch transmission. But this baby flies and has a better torque feel with all-wheel drive than the M3. You will get over it.
|
427cobra (429hp) | It's a beautiful Dinan 5. What were your HP/torque gains? What were the exact figures for the F/R suspension drops? Excerpts from the exhaust? Sorry for the overload of questions...I'm thinking of doing it myself now.
|
toby11 (193hp) | I haven't confirmed the specs myself yet, but Dinan claims these mods give 501 hp, 580 ft/lbs of torque (to all wheels) - it feels like a rocket taking off from one point dead - (in Msport+ of course) even comparing with my previous M cars. The suspension lowers the car by half and gives it a significantly more aggressive stance than the stock version. The free-flow exhaust is a throaty base - a tone lower than my M3. I think the most noticeable change with these mods that I notice during daily driving is the performance suspension - it's a huge improvement over the stock 550i suspension - flat and tight in corners and with no real sacrifice in terms of comfort. If anything, the comfort issues are related to the stock all-weather flats that came with the 550i. I keep them until the end of winters. When I bought the car, only the S2 chip was available for 2013 F-10s. Now the S3 is available and will only cost around $200 to upgrade, which is advertised as bringing 10-20 hp additional - quite close to the M5, only with all-wheel drive. In the end, the only thing I miss with the M3 is rev matching and DCT. I'm going to add an M grille to replace the chrome one - it should look nice with carbon black.

Maybe one day on the brakes. The next step is chip performance upgrade. The nice thing about Dinan mods is that they don't void your BMW warranty - Dinan guarantees its own products. A word of warning though, if you are thinking about the performance chip: you must inform your BMW service center if the work in Dinan is being carried out by another workshop. If the car needs software upgrades, there is a risk of defaulting back to the original performance program. This has happened to me before and I had to have the performance chip reprogrammed by the guys in Dinan - luckily my Dinan shop is about 2 blocks from BMW service and the BMW people take care of it. are busy..

They didn't have the S3 when I bought the mods - I guess it's an easy upgrade. If you ask before and after purchasing my car, the only comparison I had was with a stock 550i that I tested. I got my car back after the mods were already installed. I didn't take the test drive extensively, so I can't comment much on the difference in power feel, but there was a huge difference in the suspension - particularly the body roll in corners. I'm planning to upgrade to S3 just for fun. I noticed on the Dinan site that they now have an S4 upgrade. Do you think this adds another 10-20 hp on top of the 10-20 hp of the S ?3?

I really hate to give it up, but I need AWD now. I'm a little concerned coming from the M3 that the 550 will seem disconnected and floaty. I know I'll miss the intoxicating sound of the M3's V8. I don't see any photos. Have you bought M Sport? Yeah I have the Msport...I tried to download the pics but it keeps telling me the size doesn't fit. Never had any problems with iPhone photos on the M3post. Let me see what I can do. As for feeling disconnected... Buckle up my man... He will be there waiting for you. I tried to downshift on the sportshift and no revs match... the F'n ED battery kicks in...

alex111 (114hp) | I just sold my 2008 M3 in December for a 550i x-drive m sport. For around $8,000, add the Dinan S2 performance chip, Dinan suspension, and Dinan free-flow exhaust. Now the only thing I really miss about the M3 is the dual-clutch transmission. But this baby flies and has a better torque feel with all-wheel drive than the M3. You will get over it.
|
duckman (79hp) | It's a beautiful Dinan 5. What were your HP/torque gains? What were the exact figures for the F/R suspension drops? Excerpts from the exhaust? Sorry for the overload of questions...I'm thinking of doing it myself now.
|
23021981 (541hp) | I haven't confirmed the specs myself yet, but Dinan claims these mods give 501 hp, 580 ft/lbs of torque (to all wheels) - it feels like a rocket taking off from one point dead - (in Msport+ of course) even comparing with my previous M cars.

Sorry, I was asking about the difference between S2 and S3. I would like to know if you feel any difference. A friend of mine has the S2, and it seems very fast, but I haven't personally driven it (I've just rolled it around in it). My S3, I know, is fast.

Bardo_22 (734hp) | I'm curious what others think of the mix of manufacturers when it comes to body mods??? I really like the Vorsteiner front splitter, but Vorsteiner is expensive!!! I was thinking of using this front spoiler, the Agency Power diffuser, the trunk lid with integrated spoiler and a Seibon hood. I know there are differences in the CF weave and patterns, but I will match the colors of my body modifications to the car since mine is carbon black and I think CF looks terrible on it. Plus, I want to keep the elegance, preferring it to look like it came from the factory that way. I edited a few photos to get an idea of what it will look like. I'm still working on the front image... What do you think??

I think the Photoshop of the front spoiler looks good, but the hood is a little too custom and exaggerated, IMO, which I think they consider ricey. The rear view is a bit dark, but the spikes look way too huge and the spoiler a bit more dramatic than other lower profile options. These are just opinions and like you said, ultimately you will do what you love. Additionally, Photoshop doesn't necessarily do justice to your ideas because it isn't accurate to 100 %..

jordans (27hp) | Agree with Die Wolfe. I don't like the hood and exhaust tips either, but I especially don't like the wheels. But maybe it's just my age (I'm 58). Maybe 30 years ago I would have thought this was the coolest car I had ever seen! Oh, to be young again...
|
cacapipi (362hp) | It's difficult to get a good Photoshop representation. The hood is actually not that dramatic. Agency Power did one, but for me it was too dramatic. Here's the current Seibon hood: http://seiboncarbon.com/store/produc...l#!prettyPhoto The trunk looks pretty dramatic in this photo, but not so much from other angles. Here it is before photoshopping it: Notice that the exhaust tips have not changed except their color Here is another angle:
|
14101982 (216hp) | ohhh... I'm not ready to ride. I'm just playing with the design before spending $20,000 on mods
|
hotmamma (789hp) | I can't tell how huge the tips are without a back shot...they don't like tips bigger than, say, a Dinan or Eisenmann exhaust tip, so they might be OK. However, the hood vents are ricey...the front lip also seems ricey. I truly believe that the M-Sport or M5 front bumper is the only way to go. Front lips/spoilers have been out of style for 5-10 years now. Again...just my .02...but I think the rear carbon fiber also looks a little ricey. I don't understand the fascination with CF on certain parts of the car. The goal of cystic fibrosis is to reduce weight. Looks cool... inside... but not outside unless the car is made that way (eg... M6 roofs). I don't think there's ever a problem with mixing exterior mod manufacturers as long as the finished product flows...however, it's pretty rare on a car to be able to mix a few different manufacturers and still maintain its look . RIGHT. I think darker colors are harder to modify (unless you blacken them) than a white or silver...or a few simple contrasts (say a carbon fiber lip spoiler and black rims on a car white/silver/lighter colored) go a long way. At the end of the day it's your car and you should do what you want.

ImSW1 (443hp) | You said this only happens when you stop at lights. Have you installed an automatic stop/start system? When activated, the mine shudders briefly when the motor turns off.
|
01111988 (486hp) | I don't think the carbon fiber parts look ridiculous. I've seen kids over 5 years old change their vent-equipped hoods, and no one said it looked ricey. So why not do it with the current 5? Do what you love with your 5...
|
mylastfm (996hp) | I have the same thing and it's been driving me crazy for two weeks. But I thought I had to do an oil change next month and I would let the dealer check it....
|
04041987 (786hp) | I've never seen the previous 5 or 7 come with hood vents...and if they did it would look just as ridiculous. Cars I know of that have hood vents are the Benz SL...Jag XKR...maybe the supercharged XF. It might not be ridiculous since it wears stickers and huge green spoilers... but air vents rarely make the car look better or tougher. Personally I like the M Sport or M5 front bumper..... MSport rear valance (nicer than M5) with four-pipe exhaust (Dinan, Eisenmenn)... black trunk lid spoiler. I've seen too many people here putting in exhaust tips...that look tacked on...either they stick out too far...or they have the wrong valance installed. I could see what the M performance parts look like... I think they have a front spoiler but that seemed a bit risky too... I should see it in person.

buster101 (277hp) | I like the front spoiler but the rear is too big. This interrupts the flow of the car. Maybe if it was a track car, but few F10s are. I don't like the hood treatment. The lines of the F10 hood are one of its best features and the non-functional holes detract from it. I mean no disrespect, just my opinion. 550 is a nice ride either way.

ceerles (757hp) | Mixing and matching is fine as long as it flows. I've always done this with all of my cars to create a more unique combination. One thing to keep in mind with carbon fiber parts that have a large flat surface area (e.g. hood, trunk, roof, etc.) is that unless they are very high quality, they will have the They look a little wavy when you look at them from an angle. I'd say 99% of all carbon hoods I've seen are like this. This doesn't bother some people but for me I wouldn't do it on a 70K car. You can still see it after painting it unless the body shop does extensive prep work. Basically, they have to add a topcoat to the entire surface, sand and then prime to make it even again. Alan
|
rajkumar (445hp) | Mine did this occasionally, then I started getting transmission errors. They left for a day or two, then came back. The dealer replaced all my fuel injectors. They claimed a bad batch of injectors were to blame and seemed to know everything. I haven't had a problem since.

Alan Very good information Alan. I appreciate everyone's comments! My 550 is stock at the moment, but I'm planning full DINAN upgrades to push it beyond the M5. So while it's not a track car and never will be, the hood vents allow heat to escape, and any weight reduction on this 4,400 lb car may not. doesn't hurt. I will make sure of this and pay a little extra if necessary to get the prep work done properly..
