The arrows are a real plus for showing me the direction of the signal. I never leave home without my V1. Granted, a laser will catch you before you can react, but at least it gives me some advantage. This is my question: what advantage? Back in the days of radar (before lasers were introduced), I had a detector that picked up microwaves bouncing off anything in front of me. Unless I was the lead car on the flat prairie, I could drive at full speed without ever getting caught. Nowadays laser is used with radar, but I never know when I'm going to encounter which one, so I don't feel like I have an advantage. I feel like I have a false sense of security. I guess the benefit comes from thinking that if you speed regularly, you might save on some traffic tickets, which are considered the cost of doing business. In my jurisdiction, a few speeding tickets can drive up insurance costs, so unless I have stealth protection. my advantage comes from knowing where to accelerate rather than relying on a detector to save me time. Maybe I'm missing something.

070484 (424hp) | V1 has an upgrade available. Enter your 10-digit serial number. http://www.valentine1.com/Upgrade/ I believe it's 189.00 for the upgrade. If you provide your serial number it will tell you what the upgrade is. But I don't know if this solves the lane assist or blind spot problem. I will send mine after this weekend. I need the V1 for a 4 hour trip so I can't send it sooner.

popeye (587hp) | Maybe it's blind spot detection then? The only option my 5' doesn't have is the HUD and I just know that when I move the cars in the driveway the 3' (with the V1) always says there is a cop right behind if the 5' is running. I've also had false noises on the highway when I see a new 7 series or one of those Audis nearby. It can be a little nerve-wracking to keep scanning the field trying to see what isn't marked only to realize it's a false positive..

1badgirl (584hp) | I have a 2011 550xi with M Sport. I am planning to install a Valentine One hidden display unit on the dashboard (photo attached). Has anyone mounted the V1 hidden screen on a 2011 F10? If so, are you satisfied with the installation? Do you have photos you can share? I'm also interested in where you mounted the V1 unit itself. Thank you in advance for your contribution.

I had one made for my NSX a few years ago - I'm sure it wasn't from Alekshop but from someone else who made a lot of Corvettes. I had to throw out the mirror and buy a new one. The mirror had a foggy quality at night and the (manual) dimming function no longer worked - the arrows looked fine all lit up at night but it just ruined the mirror. Moreover, there is nothing hidden about this approach since the red lights shine very brightly at night and any cop around you will see it in no time..

210988 (828hp) | V1BlueSahrk is a device connected to the V1 and sends its alarms and data to the mobile phone. Automatically disable door openers, save speed camera positions if you have GPS in your mobile, so you can view the locations of all speed cameras in an Excel file, including X, Y coordinates and timestamps. check out xxx.v1blueshark.20m.com for details.
|
rock13 (234hp) | I have my V1 to the right of the mirror. The hidden screen sits at the base of the windshield, where it meets the A-pillar. There's plenty of good visibility there and you can't see it from behind. My only problem is that when I lived up North, the inspection/registration sticker blocked the display and it was completely invisible from the outside. Now that I live in Virginia we have this stupid central display that means you can see the display from the street. However, it's the same color as the dashboard, so it's really discreet. I'll try to take some photos later.

130187 (723hp) | How do you count on these things? In the early days when all police forces used radar (before KA band), I saw the benefits of it on the highway. Today, with the proliferation of laser units, you no longer really have a defense. In my jurisdiction they are illegal, so if you get hit by a laser you have this natural reaction to take your foot off the gas and/or hit the brakes, which gets you a speeding ticket, a traffic ticket for possession of the detector and the cop tears you up. the installation is completed, the damage to the car is an additional expense for you. Does anyone else share this view??

11021990 (926hp) | On the F10 configurator here in the UK, TPMS is an optional Ј250 extra. This leads me to 2 questions: 1) How does it work? Owning an E90, the system is standard equipment but operates on wheel rotation – no real tire pressure monitoring system. Does the TPMS option on the 5 work the same or are you paying for real sensors? (which would be the best IMO). 2) Do I need it? The (potentially) future 5 Series would travel around 28,000 miles per year and mostly on highways. However, traveling almost daily to an industrial area and other sites ranging from nuclear power plants to scrapyards allows (from experience) to pick up a lot of screws and nails in tires. The current rotation system resumes when a tire loses pressure. Pressures are checked at least every 2 weeks. Should be standard on a car over £40,000!!! With internal Ј30 12v power sockets. Don't get me started!
|
coh4777 (979hp) | TPMS uses real sensors. Infinitely more accurate and less prone to false alarms than the FTM method. I would consider wheel and tire insurance from BMW. BMW does not recommend repairing run flats. A few apartments can add up very quickly. (I thought it would just be a flat tire monitoring system, due to the complexity of our company's ordering system) and I am extremely happy to have it do ! (Come to think of it, the BMW website configurator and brochure gave no help as to what it actually was. You would have thought a photo of the screen would help! :roll your eyes, I found it to be as accurate as my other gauges (which I initially only used for double checking - they won't be used much, if at all, now) and it's very reassuring to have it available at any time. The beautiful display greatly impresses small car drivers too.!

Quote: Originally posted by SomeRandomer123 On the F10 configurator here in the UK, TPMS is an optional $250 extra. The current \rotation system\ resumes when a tire loses pressure. Pressures are checked at least every 2 weeks. Should be standard on a $40,000+ car!!! With indoor power sockets £30 12v. Don't get me started!

orangutan (189hp) | I ordered the TPMS for my F10 by mistake... (I thought it would just be a flat tire monitoring system, due to the complexity of our company's ordering system) and I am extremely happy to have it do ! (Come to think of it, the BMW website configurator and brochure gave no help on what it actually was. You would have thought a photo of the screen would help! :roll your eyes, I found it to be as accurate as my other gauges (which I initially only used for double checking - they won't be used much, if at all, now) and it's very reassuring to have it available at any time. display greatly impresses drivers of small cars too.!

In fact, they were! Okay, that brings me to two more: 3) If I don't check the TPMS option box, do I still get the FTM one as standard that I currently have on the E90? 4) Will the iDrive show tire pressure if I get TPMS?

Yes to both questions... But, as said above, echoing the much better Gran Turismo article, it's worth having TPMS, IMHO..

nati.beridze.92 (896hp) | Quick question, what is ECO Pro mode? I believe it turns the car off during long stops such as brake lights, then turns it back on when the gas pedal is pressed. Does anyone know if this is true?
|
bully (679hp) | No! The thing you are describing is AUTO START STOP (also standard on 520d). ecopro is a new setting adjusting the air conditioning, throttle and automatic gearbox to increase MPG.

I know I'll miss the 7k spin-up bill (not that I get there every day on the Isle of Wight!) but I ordered the oil burner guessing that would be the case, so I shouldn't be too shocked. Other than that, the 520d F10 seems like a great car, especially with a few extra toys. The dealer should get the actual delivery date this week (after a few false alarms)... hopefully early next week.

mylife3 (103hp) | I spoke to the dealer today. This isn't entirely surprising (sigh...), they aren't aware of the 2012 specs (to say the least) and can't categorically say mine is the new year model... but they are going to check and it already looks promising... The production date was September 19 and the spec list includes a feature called 1CC - Auto Start/Stop. I would have thought it was a MY2012? (I didn't know at the time that the Eco-drive was designated 4U2, so next time I talk about it I'll ask about that too... The dealer didn't know about Eco-Drive (a another sigh.. .). As for the new RTTI type, I think I'll have to wait and see - I don't think the dealer will be of much help on that yet!! dealer pickup site and I'll see it at the garage in a day or two (that's when I should be able to ask about the rest of the model year...unfortunately the garage is no longer available). not on the Isle of Wight so I can't easily come and see myself, then have to wait) they arrange check in on the Isle of Wight (important for our ferry queues in period of time). tip!) and then will get the delivery date in a short time....
