The interior lights both come on when you are reversing, when you see only one come on it is because you are making a turn. When you signal right, you will see the right one light up for about 10 seconds, as a warning to oncoming cars. Pretty cool I think.

fquekm (534hp) I think it's the adaptive headlights that illuminate the direction the steering wheel is turned. I noticed it did that on mine too, so yeah I think it's pretty normal.

After some fiddling, I managed to master all the buttons on my comfort seat and it's a joy, this seat is magnificent. Compared to my old Audi A6-08 2.7d, the Beamer is light years better.

putamadre1 (475hp) Featured on the HOME PAGE. We recently published a summary (here) of upcoming BMW technologies. One of the first driver assistance systems we'll see in the near future is BMW's remote-controlled parking technology. All the driver will have to do is park the BMW in front of the garage and the vehicle will then maneuver itself into the garage – and out – with the simple press of a button on the remote control. Remote-controlled parking technology has already been installed on some test cars. Seen here is an F10 5 series demonstrating this future feature. The barriers represent the walls of the garage that the F10 entered safely, without a driver in the vehicle. nmnmnm (396hp) Great technology, but doesn't really make sense. So I'm in front of my garage, I press the garage remote, I get out of the car, I press the parking remote, I park by myself instead of driving in front of my garage, I press the remote from the garage, I move forward, I brake, I get out of the car. The first approach simply seems to be more complicated than beneficial.

Some people have very narrow garages, either because of its small size or because of the large number of things stored in the garage. It is difficult to get in and out of the car. This technology could be useful in these situations.

jdubbs (177hp) This might not be useful in North America where we all have good sized garages, but maybe in Europe if you have to park at, say, an ally's place next to your house and there is no room to open the door once parked, that would be great..

mamulya (222hp) this feature might be more relevant in Europe where parking is tighter and space is limited. I know a few of my friends here in the US have 2 car garages that are barely big enough for their 1st and 3rd...older people probably find it annoying to have to open their door with so many precautions so that they don't ring their other car and crawl out of the seat. it requires a lot of energy and care. I bet even those who don't realize the benefits will quickly be spoiled by such a feature. If your garage is already large, perhaps you could park your cars closer together or close to the wall, and leave more space for trash cans, refrigerator doors, bikes, etc. I'm sure the technology is cheap enough at this point that the real question is not why, but why not?

101291 (186hp) I have an HTC HD2 but with dual OS (WinMo 6.5 and Froyo 2.2). Has anyone managed to connect your HTC HD2 with dual OS to the F10? I haven't received my F10 yet so I don't know if it will connect via Bluetooth.

31121980 (531hp) it connects, I have the HTC droid just purchased 2011 535i

dell13 (917hp) I have an HTC and a 550 2011 no problem with blue tooth

duluth (359hp) While searching, I found DIY oil change guides for older 550s, as well as a very good guide for the new F10 335 posted by gatoman39. I can't find one for the 2011 F10 550i. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

frog1234 (788hp) Are you considering doing one on the 550i or are you just curious? The reason I ask is that essentially they are all the same. What you really need to find out is the BMW specified oil and its capabilities. Call the parts department to see what they say, that's where I got the info. Everything else will be pretty much the same. If you have basic skills and tools and have done this before, it will be a piece of cake. If you are new to this field, you may want to have someone help you or have it done by professionals..

I plan to do this right after the break-in is complete, at about 1,500 miles, and then every 7,500 miles thereafter. I think the filter is at the bottom of the block next to the oil drain plug but I'm not sure. If this is the same model as the 2008 550i, two 6mm and 8mm Allen wrenches are required to drain the filter housing and oil pan. This will be a breeze since I've been doing this on all my new cars for years. Approved oils are listed everywhere, including in the owner's manual, but capacities are not - 9 liters is the number I saw - I will make sure to be sure of the capacity before continuing. Honda told me they use special additives in their break-in oil and wait 1,000 miles before changing it on my new NSX, so I did. The BMW should be the same, so 1,500 miles seems like a prudent time to do it. I'm one of those guys who likes to be fully prepared before trying something, so having a guide with photos written by someone who's just done it is the way to go IMO. If I don't find one before the time comes, maybe I'll be the one to write the guide for others in the future..

emma2003 (700hp) OK, so it sounds like you have some experience, so that should help if you decide to be the first crusader to tackle the f10 550i oil change. The only suggestion I have for you is this: since the engine is in many different cars, have you tried looking up the N63 oil change? * 2008– E71

I found several comments from owners complaining about this engine's excessive oil consumption which BMW says is normal - 1 quart every 1,500 miles. Nine quarts is the oil capacity with filter and 29 ft/lbs is the oil drain plug torque..

10041974 (964hp) wow 9 pints. it's a big engine. I wouldn't be surprised if the engine eats oil, especially at first. I can only speak for the 535i, even though it didn't consume any oil, the car in the first 500-1000 miles emitted all sorts of funky smells coming from the engine compartment, like burnt plastic. I thought it was just the engine holding his legs up. Currently at 4,000 miles it no longer produces those funky smells. I just did another oil change on Monday, #2. I'll shoot 3 or 4 the first year, or once a season, then move on to an annual routine.

If that's the case, frequent checks of the gauge will be necessary to determine when and EXACTLY how much is needed to make it almost full, but no more... Oh yes, BMW got rid of manual gauges. . I'm just saying...

italia90 (413hp) This is a simple oil change on F10 550i Oil Filter PN 11-42-7-583-220 $16.35 BMW 5W-30 Oil PN 07-51-0-017-866 5, $94/qt Capacity is 9 liters, but I filled with 8-5/8 liters including filter prices above, shipped by getBMWparts.com. Viewed from front to rear, two access panels, center is the bin, passenger side is the filter. Remove the 8mm bolt to unscrew the panel. The bottom half of the filter housing unscrews to expose the paper filter element. The new filter element is installed with the numbers facing the plastic housing. Add 8.5 liters, then check for leaks and iDrive for oil level. I sent the used oil (2,500 miles) to Oil Analyzers Inc for analysis.

MRV99 (389hp) Quote: Originally posted by gatoman39 How did you remove the filter? the lower plastic housing that unscrews was removed with a swivel handle oil filter wrench. The paper oil filter element comes straight out of the housing, is a snug press fit, but is not secured in any way..

I just turned it with my hand, but the filter is on top on the N55. I'm not sure you can get the leverage on the N63 to do this. Also the exposed metal piece with the hole in the middle, do you think that's a lifting point ??

bridgette1 (516hp) there is actually good access to get a filter wrench on the filter housing via a large opening in the bottom panel. I'm lucky enough to have a 4 post lift in my garage so it was easy. Exposed metal looks like part of the front cross member.

Also the exposed metal piece in the middle must be a jack point, otherwise why would they cut the piece out and make a hole in it. I just don't want to be the first person to try it.

16021987 (870hp) I have a Revolution 4 post lift made by Rotary http://www.revolutionlift.com/RFP9-9...Lift-P2C4.aspx

mcguire (841hp) Quote: Originally posted by gatoman39 Do you need an air compressor to run this thing? If so, what size tank do you need? no, everything is electric, either 110V or 220V. I have 110V, plug n play!

masamune (801hp) Quote: Originally posted by gatoman39 How did you remove the filter? I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd update it since it helped me with my first oil change. The filter wrench I used was an Assenmacher Specialty Tools V 410. I wasn't sure it would fit, but it fits and works great. Their website says a 22mm wrench can be used on the hex, but in reality a 21mm hex wrench was perfect. A 22mm would work but it's a pretty sloppy fit. http://asttool.com/detail_page.php?tool_number=V%20410

inmate (800hp) Ok, great article, I bought a salvage 2011 550i. So I'm going to change the oil myself..

oluchi (321hp) I'm reviving an old thread of course, but I just finished my first F10 550i oil change, the oil filter wrench is 86mm. This is just to help anyone looking for which one, as it took me a while to check it out..

For example, my N52 and N55 use the same key for filter and housing. Having the right grip is good but not obligatory. It's not supposed to be tight. My M52 had a square nut on the top which made it even easier to find, making it a tool, but my N5x didn't..
