MikeL0411 (99hp) | another British F11 owner. Like HighlandPete, JonD and others, my A/C is constantly set to Auto and ALL with said snowflake on and low auto fan speed. I've never had a single problem with fogging or condensation, so your car definitely has a problem as others have said. I had two E60s before the F11 and I have to say that in the 2 years I owned it I was very impressed with its ability to clear the screen on freezing mornings, a system much improved by compared to the E60, so I'm afraid to say it. no complaints here, in fact, big thumbs up to BMW. It's only for sunny days...and then I wonder why the windows fogged up within seconds...needless to say she's changed her mind on that one now. I also adhere to the mantra that modern air conditioning systems (in these kinds of cars) work best if left permanently in automatic mode with the snowflake on. I've done it on my last 4 BMWs and haven't had any issues or seen any real impact on real world MPG, and it's not an impact that interests me enough to make me want to do it operate in manual mode. at the end of the day, its air conditioning is activated, so if the snowflake is on, this does not mean that the car is constantly blowing cold air, the system regulates the cabin to the preset desired temperature... well that's how I understand it works and it seems to work like that in my car, drive with the system set to 19.5 degrees and the car never fogs up in winter, never gets hot or other and the windows are all clear and stay clear no matter how many people are in the car with me.

- Paul - (846hp) | Quote: Posted by HighlandPete This is the same question I would ask after your description. I'll check mine next time I'm out there in the wet. I'm sure yes, because there is some airflow to the screen area sometimes. BTW, what airflow intensity do you use for the driver and passenger areas? (Even in auto program). If in any case you are not receiving airflow to the screen, this suggests that you may have a problem with your particular system. HighlandPete Good! Thanks for seeing this for me. So far I normally use it on 2 (second bar on). I will only be able to try different settings when I return to Portugal. I hope we have a rainy winter so I can sort this out.

But first I need to figure out why the air is not blowing out of the top vents in auto mode, then I will try to use the air conditioning....

d11111 (799hp) | Have you activated the windshield airflow direction? By pressing the airflow button you can choose between several different presets. For manual adjustment as well as automatic adjustment. I selected my auto setting with screen airflow, stand and center airflow. Airflow speed is average. Snowflake and automatic, automatic recirculation are always on. Temperature setting between 19.5 and 20.5. The system works perfectly, better than that of my old E61.

I will only be able to try different settings when I return to Portugal. I'm hoping we have a rainy winter so I can sort this out. I tried my car, set to auto, temperature setting at 20°C, airflow intensity set to one bar, with the snowflake button disabled. Driving in conditions around 2°C ambient, without rain, humid with moisture-laden air. Air flows to all vents, definitely a warm flow from the grill vents. Not high, but there nonetheless. Stopped after about 13 miles. When I started an hour later (the snowflake button was still off), there was instant fogging on the front screen and front side windows. Never seen this before in F11, and it took about 30 seconds to clear it. This shows that even after 13 miles of driving, the HVAC system had not dried out inside. Lesson: Don't turn the snowflake button on and off in cold weather. I returned home with the snowflake button on, very similar conditions and airflows were almost identical to the trip with the snowflake button off. If it rains, I'll try again. HighlandPete

There are three key differences between it and previous iPhone models that affect its integration into vehicles BMW. First, the physical dimensions of the new phone's body are thinner and longer than those of the iPhone 4/4S. Second, the iPhone uses a new 8-pin connector in place of the traditional 30-pin connector used on all other iPhone variants as well as the iPod touch and iPod nano. The third is the elimination of the analog video signal. Taken together, the result is: 1. The iPhone 5 is not compatible with any of the plug-in adapters currently available through BMW.2. The PlugIn feature to access one's music library is not available on iPhone 5. (Owners can still access their music library using a USB cable, see details under Will I need an adapter to use my iPhone5?.)3. In addition, watching videos stored on the device, on the screen of the parked car, is no longer possible. FAQ Below is an FAQ regarding the use of iPhone 5 and iOS6, as answered by BMW: Can I connect my phone via Bluetooth to make phone calls, view my contacts and listen to music? Yes, can I still listen to music from my iPhone 5 in my BMW? Yes, via the External Devices menu in iDrive. Will I need an adapter to use my iPhone 5? This depends on vehicle options: No, if you are currently using a white Apple cable to connect your iPhone to your vehicle. In this case, all you need is the new Apple Lightning cable, included with your iPhone 5. (See our member's DIY guide to create a holder and integrate the Lightning cable) Yes, if you currently use a cable Y connector to connect your phone. . In this case, you will need a Lightning adapter to connect your iPhone 5 to the Y cable. (See USB cable or Y cable below to determine when a Y cable is needed for MY 13 vehicles.) The adapter Lightning is an adapter available through Apple to convert the old 30-pin plug to a new 8-pin connector or Lightning cable. It's already on sale at Apple and costs $29.99 (for the adapter) or $39.99 for the adapter cable. Can I use PlugIn and/or play videos from my iPhone 5? No, the iPhone 5's Lightning connector does not support analog video, making PlugIn and video playback incompatible. Plug-in and video playback are still supported when using iPhone 4/4S with iOS 6. When will the Snap-In Adapter for iPhone 5 be available? BMW's official statement on the matter is that there is currently no set timetable for the release of the Snap-In adapter for iPhone 5, but as we recently reported, our sources indicate that it is currently under development and expected to be released around June 2013. Are BMW applications compatible with iPhone 5 / iOS 6? Yes, owners of iOS 6 (including iPhone 3GS/4/4S/5) and a vehicle equipped with BMW apps can continue to enjoy the same great app integrations, just like they have made with iOS 5.1. This includes Pandora, MOG, Aupeo, Stitcher and BMW Connected. Pandora is still not compatible with vehicles of the new professional navigation system (SA609),.

Roy_16_Keane (392hp) | The 2013 version of the 550 doesn't offer a Sport package, only the M package - as far as I know. I don't really want the M package, but I like the thicker leather-wrapped steering wheel (M or Sport leather steering wheel, part 710 or 255). Does anyone know if it is possible to just order one of these steering wheels as a separate option with a new car build? THANKS

ererer (2hp) | Not sure, but I love the steering wheel that comes with the M-sport package. Unrelated question: I see you have a 2002 540, and since I currently plan to keep my 2012 for about 10 years, I'd be interested to know how well it has kept up..

komarov (606hp) | This must be possible because I have seen a few 2013 cars on cars.com that have an M wheel without the M sport package. It does not appear as an option on the configurator or ordering guide. I would be surprised if dealers bothered to buy an M wheel and airbag to replace the stock wheel. Perhaps this is some sort of secret option known only to certain dealers or sales advisors. Here is a link to one of the cars: http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...nal&listType=1 If you really want to know, you can call the dealer and ask how this steering wheel was got. on this car. MOBF10 (972hp) | A local dealer responded as follows: Unfortunately, there is no way to get either of these factory steering wheels without ordering the M Sport package, which will give you the 710 M steering wheel. The sports steering wheel leather 255 only comes with the ActiveHybrid 5, and only when you have the Sport package. How strange.

penis22 (102hp) | I just ran the VIN (last 7 digits) on this wonderful VIN decoder: http://www.rubmw.ru/vincode/eng/ The car I linked to has the S710A M leather steering wheel option according to the decoder. I tried this with another VIN from San Diego BMW. Same thing. The photos are not mixed. Non-M sports cars are on sale in the United States with factory-installed M sports wheels.
|
hl0m4n (118hp) | It is also possible that this is an error or a necessary exchange at the factory. Maybe the factory is short on heated steering wheels and had to replace the heated M steering wheel to keep the line moving? (The car you linked has the Executive package, which adds a heated steering wheel.) Several years ago, something similar happened with a friend's VW CC. It received memory seats and the premium Climatronic automatic climate control system over a base Sport model that was supposed to lack these items. The factory simply didn't have spare parts for the lesser items, so they replaced them and he wasn't charged..
|
kanika (366hp) | Stranger still. Having driven an M steering wheel for 10 years, I'm not ready to go back. It will probably be enough to order the M package.
|
dododo1 (69hp) | You can always order the M-performance wheel separately and ask the dealer to exchange it for you. I believe it's around $800. Or if you wish, I can sell you my Sport Pack steering wheel and buy the M-performance one myself. The only reason I don't trade is because I don't know if I would be able to sell mine. The downside is that each wheel has its own airbag, which increases the price..

stampede (207hp) | Although I may be late to this thread, I can share my experience after trading in my 2012 528i (with the new 4 cylinder) for a 2013 535i. And by the way, this is my first post! This will be my 5th BMW and my 5th 5 series. I was really in love with the previous generation for the balance of ride and handling - nothing like it I've experienced! The redesigned Series 5 definitely took me some time to get used to. I was ready for the added ride comfort, like stepping up to a 7 Series, but I missed the handling. I waited for the 2012 with the new engine and liked it at first. However, the difference in fuel economy really isn't that big, especially for spirited drivers. It can, however, deliver exceptional gas mileage on the highway at speeds of 72 or less. But for city driving and getting the acceleration it can deliver, you're going to suck up the gas. I averaged 25 mph over what I believe was the entire 11 months I had the car, which included a fair number of highway miles. I'm running fewer miles now and wanted to have more power. But I also forgot how different the engine sound is with the new 6. In other words, the sound of the 4 cylinder is slightly boring and feels cheap. For me, this is the first big difference between the 2 models. The second major difference is in the ride and handling since my new car is equipped with the M sports package. For those of us who loved the previous 5 series, I think this is a much sought after option. I also like the increased sportiness. And I'm surprised that the Dunlop tires are pretty quiet. The multi-contour seats in my new 535i are probably the preferred option. These three major additions to my new 5 Series have made a huge difference. My new car doesn't look much different since I stuck with the titanium silver, but oh what a difference in ride, handling and engine sound. My previous approach was different in that I wanted a BMW 5 Series on a budget under $50,000. But I guess it didn't work out very well. My approach this time was to buy a more expensive car, so a loaded 5 Series ended up being perfect.!

penguin11 (181hp) | Quote: Originally posted by DitrasetMan Friends, I was preparing to buy my first 528i, but recently I started getting paranoid about throwing my money away (for resale) if I didn't go bankrupt and wasn't buying a 535i. Is the market for a used (loaded) 528i much less than a 535i if I decide to sell the car in about four years? Option 1: 2013 528iPremium Package Driver Assistance Package Technology Package Total price (taxes included): $52,325 Option 2: 2013 535iNO Premium Package (to save money since the 535i comes with leather, but I would lose the system (comfort access, which I don't have I don't need it and satellite radio, which I won't use - Pandora instead) Driver Assistance Package Technology Package Total price (including taxes) : $55,277 Factors: - I do NOT drive fast. I actually like to drive very slowly. So the 535i's speed increase isn't a factor. - I like the 535i's wheels better than the 528i's - But I like the 528i's gas mileage better (23 city, 34 highway) compared to the 535i (21 city, 31 highway) - But Could the 535i command higher resale? - But the 535i (as configured) costs $3,000 more! Thoughts? I happen to drive a brand new 528i and own a 2011 535i. My car is currently being serviced, which is why I'm in this car. I have to say I like the seats in the 535i, I also like the comfort access system, the premium stereo is much better than the standard system in the 528i, I drive. The 535i suspension offers a totally different feel with better rims. Since speed isn't a factor, I'd see more options for the 528i. Like the M package, upgraded seats, rims and premium stereo system.

asstastic (485hp) | I have been driving my 2012 528i MSport for about 5 months. I am extremely happy with the engine performance: excellent pickup, zero turbo lag, no power issues. Honestly, it doesn't feel like a 4 cylinder at all. The only negative - It looks like SHIT when you first start the car and when you drive aggressively. It doesn't give the car a Premium/Luxury feel, it doesn't make you want to step on the gas and DRIVE. Verdict - If you're not particular, get the 528i - it's quiet and has more than enough power for 99% of drivers. For me the 528i is missing something, maybe it's the sound or something more and that's why I'm going to update it soon..

cacique (830hp) | Although I may be late to this thread, I can share my experience after trading in my 2012 528i (with the new 4 cylinder) for a 2013 535i. I'm doing fewer miles now and wanted more power.

72chevy (421hp) | Quote: Originally posted by DitrasetMan Friends, I was preparing to buy my first 528i, but recently I started getting paranoid about throwing my money away (for resale) if I didn't go bankrupt and wasn't buying a 535i. Is the market for a used (loaded) 528i much less than a 535i if I decide to sell the car in about four years? Option 1: 2013 528iPremium Package Driver Assistance Package Technology Package Total price (taxes included): $52,325 Option 2: 2013 535iNO Premium Package (to save money since the 535i comes with leather, but I would lose the system (comfort access, which I don't have I don't need it and satellite radio, which I won't use - Pandora instead) Driver Assistance Package Technology Package Total price (taxes included): $55,277 Factors: - I do NOT drive fast. Like the M package, upgraded seats, rims and premium stereo system.

brittany8 (235hp) | 2 Weeks after my warranty ended, the rear air suspension was punctured. I could hear air coming out. I was afraid to know how much it would cost. But they fixed it for free. Good deal for me! At least there was a nice descent with the 17-inch winter wheels, but the ride was rock hard. But it seems to be a weak point of the F11, it should last more than 2 years I think.

Lesson: Don't turn the snowflake button on and off in cold weather. I returned home with the snowflake button on, very similar conditions and airflows were almost identical to the trip with the snowflake button off. If it rains, I'll try again. HighlandPete Thanks for your great help, Pete. I appreciate it! When I return in two weeks I will try tuning my system exactly the same in humid/wet conditions to see if it behaves the same..

11041987 (63hp) | Today my iDrive crashed and restarted after failing to play Pandora audio. Did anyone else see this? Full Details: 2012 F10 and iPhone 5, running the latest versions of all software, including the latest update from BMW. iPhone 5 connected via USB cable. I launched Pandora and was able to control the channel through the iDrive interface as expected, but the audio was only coming from the iPhone speaker, not the car speakers. I unplugged the phone and plugged it back in several times, waiting several seconds at each step. The iDrive screen correctly allowed control of Pandora. The iPhone screen correctly displayed the BMW connection. But the sound only came from the iPhone speaker. Eventually I gave up and started signing up for XM Radio. About five minutes later and while I was driving, the iDrive screen went blank, all sounds stopped and the iDrive restarted itself..

flippy (695hp) | I'm also having issues with my iDrive. Last week it showed NO SIGNAL in orange letters and required turning it off to clear the error and restart navigation. This happened 5 times during a 50 minute journey. Then everything was fine for a week, but today the error happened again (only once), then later the navigation froze and the system reset. I have professional navigation. I also have another problem in that no matter what song was last played in the music collection, it always starts playing again from a certain song. I will go to the dealership as soon as I get the chance. Andy

19922991 (173hp) | Sound quality has so many nuances. Variables that can change perceived sound quality are: relative volume, frequency balance, spatial imaging, relative distortion, speaker quality, electronics quality, and system tuning quality , to name just a few. So the sound quality issues you cite may not be entirely due to the speakers. If you try to pair new, better speakers with a cheap headend or amplifier, you might still be unhappy. It is better to buy a better quality system at the beginning.

My wife purchased a stock 2013 x1 with a standard stereo. I was blown away by the good sound quality. Why is it better than a sedan? It all has to do with the market. Competitors to the x3 and x1 have good basic audio systems. BMW therefore had to strengthen itself in this area. Sedans, however, are known for their crappy base audio systems and that's because the sedan's competition also has crappy base audio systems. Ultimately, the real problem usually doesn't come from the speakers. Rather, it's the quality of the power amp and, to some extent, the preamp. It takes a near miracle of engineering to make a good power amp powered by 12 volts. And that's where most of the spending on high-end audio systems goes. Additionally, BMW offers many channels. You'd be amazed how much extra channels add to the cost.
