cathleen (892hp) Gentlemen, I'm not sure this is true for the 18 tires. I have the M sport with the 19 run flats and when the car is in comfort mode it is one of the smoothest rides I have never did. I wouldn't drive faster than 120 mph in this mode as it floats a bit, but normal mode is only slightly stiffer but solid at higher speeds. Sport and sport+ are much stiffer but are definitely better at higher speeds and during aggressive cornering. This is just my opinion, but the wheels and tires on my car look academic and as I said before, the car is a total pleasure to drive. I look forward every day to turning the key (or rather pressing the button)!

jason24 (572hp) Quote: Originally posted by d-rive This weekend I tested my 530d. About 1000km. I reached 200 km/h and the car feels like it's on rails. 18 wheels and Dunlop SP Sport MaxxGT, 245 (wide) front and 275 rear. It's good to know that the problem I encountered was limited. May I ask what type of suspension you have? Active packages? THANKS!

27071990 (644hp) Ohh, sorry for my English. I read what I wrote above. So let's talk about cars: PI has all active packages, including IAS. I think that in the case of this car, a period of adaptation is necessary, you have to learn to understand and acquire it. This is obviously very different from previous generations and that is why it takes a period of adaptation. The electric steering makes the car feel very different. After a few thousand kilometers I understood the car, how it works in corners, the balance of the car and now it is really a pleasure to drive it in a sporty way..

basketba11 (806hp) I have a 525d F10 with wonky steering and I wouldn't like to try anything over 85 on the highway as a fairly average crosswind can send me 1/2 lane in either direction. I took it back after 4 weeks because I thought it was broken, but BMW said that's how they wanted it. You simply can't squeeze safely between a truck and the central reservation on a windy night. Switching to non-flat lanes kept it from weaving left and right on the highway ruts of the inside lane, which is helpful because you can't go fast enough safely to use the other lanes..

MI6 (338hp) You guys are so lucky. Here in Michigan our highways are filled with potholes and cops smoking weed..

22111995 (269hp) I have an F10 530d M-Sport with 19 wheels and it rides like on rails at all speeds, with excellent steering feel too!

robmarley (537hp) My personal feeling, coming from 3 generations of 5 series, is that my previous E60 seemed more solid and secure at speed than my current F10... Maybe the E60 is more streamlined as it seemed pushed down slightly on the road but my F10 feels like it's riding a little high and pushing my way.... For sure, I really feel like the F10 is more sensitive to side winds than my old E60 . I live in Hsinchu, the “windy town” of Taiwan and this is something that has bothered me since I got the F10. Yes, both cars were lowered.

rodolfo1 (609hp) I have a 2011 F10 and it sucks above 70 mph. I went to the store several times and they did what they could. I'm completely nervous from top to bottom and I don't feel relaxed. I took my 2007 E92 to higher speeds in corners than the F10 in a straight line. Sports pack with 19 runflats and non-adjustable suspension. I swear it's a bent wheel or ruined tires after sitting on the lot without riding for 3 months before purchasing it. Dealership says everything is within spec.

7878 (260hp) I have a 530d smport with 19 wheels and mine feels pretty good at speed as well. The steering (although not a patch on the E39) seems weighty at higher speeds (70 mph) even in comfort mode.

ender1 (286hp) I have a 2012 F11 530d xdrive M Sport (std chassis, 19 RFT Goodyear). The car feels solid up to 200 km/h. I haven't been able to test it at 200+ yet...for now. Perhaps it's the electric steering of the non-xdrive models that makes the difference? There has been a discussion elsewhere on the forum about the (electric) steering, obviously some people don't like the feel compared to the Audi A6, MB E Class or E60/E61?

050590 (545hp) yes, it's definitely different. compared to my E39 that I just got rid of, it's not as good. however, I am getting used to this feeling. the E39 is what I would describe as "raw" in the sense that you can feel everything going on, it was noticeably heavier, especially at slower speeds. I guess that's servotronics? where it is lighter at slow speed and becomes heavier with speed. Coming from an E39 which was by no means a light car, the F10 is even heavier but the ride feels lighter to control. In the E39 you knew you were driving something heavy, but I don't feel that as much in the F10. It's more luxurious than sporty in my opinion. Probably closer to a 7 series than a 3 series (although I haven't driven one 7.)

blacksun (386hp) Well from the original post I have my own F10 to play with and with the suspension in Normal mode I can get up to around 140-160 km/h but the stability of the car seems to deteriorate at beyond (also depending on the quality of the road, wind, etc.). For higher speeds, I feel more comfortable switching the suspension to Sport mode and it's solid: 247 km/h in Germany, the maximum I've been able to try in road traffic conditions far from 'be ideal. It felt like the speed could go higher, so I guess the actual speed was lower than what it showed on my dashboard..

bigdaddy01 (928hp) I rode a lot at around 80-85 mph. Not that fast, but up to that speed it's rock solid and moving forward like I expect it to. It's an F11 with M-sport, electronic shock absorbers and 18 run flat Continental ContisportContact.

djse60 (299hp) Quote: Posted by wang133ro Hello! It seems that many people find the F10 very difficult to control at speeds above 100 mph (160 km/h). In my own experience (with a 535i and 525d), the difficulty increased proportionally with speed until the cars became very difficult to control and I had to slow down for safety reasons. The two cars I tested had the most basic steering and suspension. For my part, I want to know if this behavior occurs for all F10s or only for some of them. I would also try to check with the steering and suspension type. Please let me know whether or not this problem was present with the F10 you drove and what type of steering/suspension the car had. I'm also curious if anyone has fixed this issue (software update?!). Thanks for the help! No problem driving at 210 km/h and with flat tires...

fearless (87hp) but I like it anyway. I picked it up Tuesday afternoon and have now done 700 miles. Currently packed for a family holiday to France, but roof boxes (yes, boxes!) are ruining the queues. Hopefully the photos are correct as this is my first time trying.

davidm (537hp) Congratulations! I love the oyster/oyster interior and is it imperial blue? We collected our F11 a few days after you. We only went 1 mile in the first 4 days of ownership. It was hell! Now up to 200 miles I think. I'm still not used to its size. Which roof boxes did you buy?

judge (332hp) Good. Weird to see the driver on the right side. Yes, I'm in the US and I know we are the weirdest sometimes. SAE vs metric and all that.

karavan (231hp) I noticed that the 2012 535i has a min. 89 octane requirement, has anyone compared the difference in performance and gas mileage using 89, 91 and 93? It's only 10-15 cents difference per gallon, but if there's no difference in performance and gas mileage, I might as well use an octane rating of 89..

viola1 (74hp) 89 is the minimum required since E34 if I remember correctly. But then 1% of owners read the manual or the sticker on the gas flap. I only use 91 because here in Canada, we add ethanol to 87 and 89.

chapulin (774hp) My 2011 535 ix has a label (on the gas door) that says 91 premium octane is required.... The owner's manual tells you: Fuel required Super Premium/AKI 91 Gasoline or AKI 89 BMW recommends AKI 91 or 89. Gasoline with lower AKI The minimum AKI rating is 89. If you use gasoline with this AKI rating minimum, the engine may produce knocking noises when starting at high outside temperatures. temperatures. This has no effect on engine life.

So what octance are you using, 89, 91 or 93 and is there a difference in performance and gas mileage ??

firetruck (460hp) All the octane number really means is: the higher it is, the more compression the fuel will experience before detonation. The knocking noise is called pre-detonation, and it's when the cylinder is so hot (and compression so fast) that the fuel explodes before the combustion cycle and this can cause significant damage to your engine. The piston/rod assembly is only intended to withstand the force of an explosion at TDC and anything that gives it negative pressure beyond standard compression cycles endangers many components like rods, rod bearings , bushings and crank bearings. You "can" get away with lower octane since these engines are so detuned, but think of it as the equivalent of putting 4 spare tires on your car: it will work, but when you really need your car does what it was designed to do. you might be out of luck. I'm sure that since they have such a low minimum requirement for these cars, the knock sensors are great for immediately reducing the timing for safety reasons - but just because you can eat McDonald's every day and technically survive... would you like to? I highly recommend that anyone with a turbo run at a minimum octane of 91, as these engines are not cheap to replace..

luna (26hp) It seems to me that BMW changed the gas door label from 91 AKI min on the 2011 535i to 89 AKI min on the 2012 535i. Does anyone know if they just changed the label or if he retuned the engine or software to run on a lower octane.

vajonam (621hp) Compression for the 2012 N55 is 10.2:1, which is very high for a turbo engine. It's not worth saving a few cents, just make 91+ gas to be safe. In the United States, gas is way too cheap to save money.

kyheang12 (821hp) I think if anyone was cheap enough to use anything other than premium, the motors would go out of tune (lack of a better term) so as not to cause damage. I may be misinformed, but that's what I read with the E60s. May not apply to F10.

battleon (419hp) I don't think it's a matter of being cheap or not, it's more a matter of using any octance above the minimum. The requirement will lead to an increase in performance and efficiency. BMW lowers its min. requirement on the F10. The big question is whether they modified the engine in any way, software or hardware. I know that when other automakers lower their octane requirements, they rate horsepower and torque lower as well. This is not the case for BMW.

taylor101 (117hp) This week I traveled back from a meeting in North Wales to my home in Kent (about 300 miles). I can honestly say that the worst drivers are those who drive small Audi A3s and A4s. Why do these people insist on driving a few inches from the back of your car, then stay in the fast lane and don't move over to let others pass...what is their problem ?...????

I am very happy with the handling performance of my F10 550i, this may be due to my build options and/or ACS springs..

05091981 (327hp) My SA advised bringing the car back for a day so they could look at these things (that's when I requested a software update which they don't do unless there's a problem to be resolved). So before I do, can you confirm that you are or are NOT exhibiting these issues. Or if you had them, have they been repaired? THANKS. 1. Sometimes when I drive out of my garage in the morning, the computer mistakenly dims the white dashboard lighting to a barely visible darker tone of gray, making the dashboard not only less clear, but almost dead (or dying). The red temperature display on the center console climate control is also much darker and almost invisible. When I go to my car at lunch and start it, things usually return to normal, but simply turning the ignition off and on again doesn't solve the problem quickly. I have already observed it three times. Adjusting the light button doesn't help (it doesn't do anything). 2. Comfort Access has a delay before allowing me to lock the car. I close the door, press the handle and nothing happens. Instead I have to close the door, wait about 2 seconds, THEN press the strip and it will lock. It's quite annoying because it just doesn't allow you to close the door, touch and walk away - you have to close, WAIT, then touch and walk away. 3. The iDrive screen intermittently forgets my last function. I usually set it to the navigation system while driving and although most of the time it will show the same navigation screen when I get back to the car, 4/10 times it won't (it's basically random). These 4/10 times will take me back to the main menu, forcing me to select navigation and hide the left options..

However, if I start the car and drive forward and the camera doesn't turn on, often the idrive shows up in a top menu, not where I left it. I find the idrive to have its own mind a bit boring.

My instrument cluster also darkens until it is barely readable - exactly as you described. This happens quite frequently. I spoke to the service manager at my dealership and he said this happens when the cluster gets too hot. I don't know if I accept this explanation, because it mostly happens on first startup in the morning. I too will have to leave it to them for a day, which will probably be very soon. Please post the result after checking yours. 2. No 3. No

keshia1 (310hp) I only noticed number 2. If you close the door it seems like you have to wait for the soft close mechanism to finish, whether you allow the soft close or slam the door it will then allow you to lock. I have the soft close option, but I don't know if the same would apply without the soft close..

050590 (146hp) 1. no (turn off your automatic headlights and that might solve the problem) 2. yes (I seem to have to wake the handle for it to work) 3. I haven't noticed.

M3er (829hp) 1:#2: Ask your dealer to check the battery and add more juice. I had the same problem. After charging the battery, everything seems to be normal 3: No

renault5 (738hp) hello, do you know of a dealer who can send parts internationally? tischer used to but no longer does it..i have to order OEM parts if you know let me know thanks

deathwish1 (907hp) No, yes, yes. #3, idrive, I found out that when I start the car and leave a location the camera turns on, then when I put the car in drive and the camera turns off the idrive screen goes back there where I left it. However, if I start the car and drive forward and the camera doesn't turn on, often the idrive shows up in a top menu, not where I left it. I find the idrive to have its own mind a bit boring.

Philip Park (988hp) hello, do you know of a dealer who can send parts internationally? tischer used to but no longer does it..i have to order OEM parts if you know let me know thanks

ladybug13 (572hp) No, yes, no... But having to wait 2 seconds to lock is normal if you have soft-close doors.

1234567890l (422hp) No, no (no comfort access), yes whether during strong acceleration or when turning left. The dealer updated the software and some sort of reset, although they claimed they couldn't reproduce the problem... Useless in a word, accept it now...

2406 (799hp) I can confirm 2 and 3.

billyboy1 (212hp) 1: no 2: does not apply 3: no

nino (141hp) I hate the AC on the F10, my E60 was much more precise.

swimmer2 (633hp) 1. No 2. Yes (I had my batteries replaced to no avail) AC on my E93 was more reliable 3. Yes

fuckmyass (578hp) Quote: Originally posted by yogi799 My SA advised me to take the car back for a day so they could look at these things (that's when I requested a software update which they didn't not carried out unless there is a problem to be resolved). These 4/10 times will take me back to the main menu, forcing me to select navigation and hide the options on the left. 1. Yes. 2. No 3. No

yfcn. (554hp) I only noticed number 2. If you close the door it seems like you have to wait for the soft close mechanism to finish, whether you allow the soft close or slam the door it will then allow you to lock. I have the soft close option, but I don't know if the same would apply without the soft close..

svetlana1 (944hp) Number 3 also happens quite often in my car. Does anyone have or know a solution???

300595 (54hp) Yes, no and no

chicana1 (393hp) Last month I traded my e93 328i convertible for an F10 535i xdrive. I drove the new F30 3 series several times and really wanted to like it, but I didn't like the new generation. So I decided to go for the F10. It took me a few weeks to adjust to the larger car and, in particular, the smoother driving dynamics. But I'm really starting to like this car. I miss being able to crank the 3 series and I miss some aspects of the convertible. But the F10 is really starting to amaze me. The authoritative and elegant manner in which it handles most driving situations is very impressive. I would have liked it to offer a little more feedback, especially in Sport mode. And it’s BIG! But it's scary how fast this car goes while maintaining an extremely quiet cabin, which means I often don't realize how fast I'm really going. It's a pretty awesome machine. I should add that I'm not bashing the F30. Many people like it and I'm happy with it! It's a great throwable car, but it's not what I'm looking for. Has anyone else upgraded from an e93 to an F10? Thoughts?

bluebear (446hp) I jumped on the same boat as you with no regrets. The only thing is I kept my e93 335i. The F10 is definitely a much bigger car, which took some getting used to. Honestly, shifting gears is pure joy in this car. If I didn't have the HUD, I would sometimes lose track of my speed. Congratulations on your purchase by the way!

pickles! (289hp) I have a 2007 335I and am also considering upgrading to a 535I with X drive so I can drive it year round. I found a 2011 with 17,000 miles at the dealer but it doesn't have the comfort/sport button. I drove a 2012 535I with X drive when I first looked. Is there a big difference without the button and are there any other differences between 2011 and 2012. Thanks, it's hard to think about letting my 335I go, it's super clean and fun. Thanks for reading.

teabag (624hp) I purchased a 2012 535i M sport in February after trading back my 2011 328i convertible. I loved the 328 and hated to see it go, but decided it was more practical for me to opt for a 535 this time. I considered the F30 but it wasn't available yet and I couldn't wait. Although I really enjoyed the 328, I'm very happy with the 5. Adapting to a larger, much quieter car also took some getting used to. Going from an E93 with sports package to the F10 seemed very strange for the first month because I felt like I was totally isolated from the outside world. The 5 is more refined but definitely a little softer throughout. I miss the tighter, better feedback steering of the 3, but I don't think the steering of the 5 is bad. The handling of the 328 felt more like a go-kart than the 5, but I found the power and balance of the 535 intoxicating. I like the ability to change the car's personality with the push of a button and find myself driving it in sport and DS mode most of the time. The car gets better the harder you push it. The engine has gone through the break-in period and runs and sounds great. I just achieved 32 mpg on a 435-mile trip at an average speed of 69 mph in pro eco mode, which I found impressive for a car of this size. The comfort and ride on a long trip is fantastic and the car drives effortlessly on the highway. I've read so many negatives about the F10 on the forums and luckily I haven't encountered any. It seems like a lot of complaints are coming from owners of early F10s and perhaps my 1/12 build date fixed many of these issues. I'm glad to see someone else with similar experience and opinion.

bondar (990hp) I did a similar swap in December (E93 328i ->, F10 550i). I miss the sunroof from time to time here in WA, but the 550 is much more fun to drive than my 328. It's comfortable, quiet, very fast and has features I expect from a luxury car that doesn't 'didn't exist on my green. I haven't driven the F30, but I sat in it and wasn't impressed. My next car is going to be a tough choice... Congrats on the upgrade!

geometry (776hp) I just sold my 2009 msport 335i coupe...and am now waiting to jump into a 2011 550ix in a few days. It is equipped with a DHP with Sport-auto transmission. Hopefully with this setup the 335i won't make me miss it as much... My 335i was on 19 RFT and when I hit potholes I thought the car was going to split into two. Rough ride, but let's see how the f10 holds up

dolcevita (882hp) I bought my '11 E92 335i in mid-2010, right after the LCI came out. I really loved the precise handling and overall feel of the car. But having always owned SUVs and sedans, I was sorely missing something... SPACE! After thinking about the 5 vs. 7 series dilemma for a while, I finally decided on the 535i. The look and feel of a larger luxury sedan combined with the sportiness and fuel economy of the 335i (although some might say it's diluted). For me this represents the perfect compromise between the two worlds.

delbert (74hp) You made a great choice with your F10 and I must say I couldn't wait until my lease was up on my 09 E90 335 xdrive to take delivery of my ordered 2012 550 xdrive. Not because the E90 was a problem car, it was a fantastic little car that excelled in handling and reliability. For me it was just time to go back to the 5 series and I wanted to get out of that small interior and besides where I live, the E46 and E9x. are as common as the Ford Fusion and Chevy Malibus in Livonia, Michigan. With the M sport's adaptive transmission, ARS, and decent non-RF rubber, my F10 is an absolute joy to drive up and down the canyon road I live on. It's also rock solid and quiet at 150 mph, where the E9x gets a little floaty at speed and is downright twitchy in high-speed crosswinds (can't speak for the M3). Comparing the E9x to the F10 isn't apples to oranges, it's clementine oranges versus. Mandarins. Both are great, but a little different in their own way. by the way... my 550 seems to have a big hole in the gas tank Like I said, it's a good choice on your F10.

servis (271hp) Hi If I understand correctly, selecting the VDC option deselects the M suspension and replaces it with the SE suspension. Does this mean the ride height of the VDC is the same as the SE suspension? THANKS!

stephan1 (87hp) Yes, VDC does not lower the car.
