lila (692hp) | Quote: Posted by gobobbie I think you'll find that the clarity of the illustrations depends on the device. I have an old classic/iPod video and the larger artwork is very pixelated. If I use my iPhone 4, it's perfectly clear. If anyone has a current generation classic and has tried it, I would be very interested to know if it is clear, as I would like to buy a classic to make the best use of this feature. I just use a USB stick. I save my illustrations in 300x300 format previously and 600x600 recently. Both appear clearly in iDrive.

kungfu (876hp) | Quote: Posted by ghueser Thanks kscarrol, I tried it last night and it worked. I had already looked at the entertainment details, but didn't realize that you had to wait a few seconds for the larger artwork to appear on the right side of the split screen. The larger album isn't as clear as what BMW shows in its ads, but that could be because the artwork wasn't recorded at the highest level of detail on my IPod. I have an old version of the classic. Still in learning mode with all these new technologies.........I'm getting there. Glad it works! Should have mentioned the album art delay... I bought a new Nano that stays in the car. As Gobobbie mentions, with the new iPod, the album art is crystal clear. Try a new one and it should be better...

dkflbckfdf (461hp) | Thanks everyone, I'm relieved to hear that my old iPod is to blame for the lack of clarity on the greatest album. I am indeed in the market for a newer IPOD, but I just can't decide if I want the Nano 16G or the newer version of the classic. (No, downside of having the huge hard drive in the classic...maybe slower?) Although I've kept up with the IPod software updates on my old classic, I can't seem to do appear the Genius on it or the I-Drive. . (As shown in some Combox articles) Although I downloaded it to my main computer, I once again suspect that this is due to not having the latest type of iPod. Another question. When you use a regular CD in the single CD player, does it have the ability to play the album artist? I've only tried one, but I get the unknown artist and track. Do some CDs have the ability to display this information? Thanks Agian for the help.
|
28051996 (519hp) | I've never played with the Genius function on the car so I can't help... As for CDs, I exclusively use the iPod or Sirius in the car so no expert. Only if the data is on disk. For store-bought CDs, they must come with the data written to the disc by the manufacturer, but I'm not sure to what extent this is done by the industry. Homemade CDs will ask you to add information, but I'm not an expert on this. Someone else will have to step in...

florian (872hp) | Hello everyone. Latest info on the combox here for those interested. Appreciate. :-) Ash

novell123 (781hp) | From page 16: Quote: With the introduction of the Combox, the Telematics Control Unit (TCU) is no longer required or installed. So the big question, can we swap the TCU with the Combox for versions before September ??

brandon00 (945hp) | For displaying the album cover.........one question. I normally use a split screen with the navigation system on the right side. I get the cover display in the upper right corner of the iPod screen. On page 16 of this document, a larger album image is displayed on the right and still appears to be split screen. How do you do this? THANKS
|
jerome12 (897hp) | when you push the iDrive button to the right, it should take you to an option called Split Screen Display Options (or something like that). This is where you define what is displayed, i.e. the navigation screen, entertainment details (which gives the largest album art), etc.....

redblood (469hp) | In Canada, the advertised fuel consumption of the 535ix (my car) is as follows: City: 10.6 L/100 km (22 mpg) Highway: 6.8 L/100 km (34.5 mpg) My current consumption after having traveled 700 km is 12.9 L/100 km (18 mpg). This seems quite far from being announced. I drive about 60% on the highway. My first tank of gas only lasted 460 km (285 miles). This doesn't look very good. I assume this will improve with engine break-in? I'm curious what others get? Another interesting note is that in the US the claimed highway mileage is 29 mpg. Why would it be different?

I noticed over the years that I never got the mileage that others claim to get with the same car. I'm a firm believer that the mileage you get is directly proportional to how you drive, no matter what you drive. It's the driving style that makes the biggest difference. For example, merging onto the highway can be done smoothly or my way, my way uses 5 times more gasoline than the other. Does mileage improve over time? Maybe, but I haven't noticed any improvement over time on any of my cars. Want better mileage? If you have a manual transmission, imagine there is an egg under your gas pedal and shift gears often, very often. Never let the revs exceed 3K in any gear and you will get GREAT gas mileage. For automatic, do not use sport mode and hold the egg firmly under.

fuck999 (764hp) | The difference between Canada and the United States is because different agencies perform the tests and use different testing measures. The American test gives more conservative figures. Check the EU sites and you'll get more promising numbers than Canada's. As for the mileage you get, I have a 328i xDrive, so this doesn't apply 100%, but the brochure suggests I should get 12 in the city, and my car gets about 13 in driving in the suburbs. If I go downtown it would be closer to 2 or 3 p.m. with continuous stops..

frannie (778hp) | my 535i.......let's say 65% highway and 35% city, I average 24 mpg so far...at 1,800 miles. wrestling2 (575hp) | I expect 28/30 MPG UK gallons on my 550i M Sport when it arrived, my M3 E90 averaged 23/24 MPG in out of town driving. Most of my travel consists of long trips out of town. I always feel like I get more out of a gallon than most people. By the way, a US gallon is smaller than a UK gallon, that's why you get different mileages, US gallon = 1 * 1.2 = UK. Nescio (720hp) | With all the sand on the roads and reading some threads here about stone chips, I asked a few questions about 3M paint protection film. The cost of a custom kit for the F10 covering the bumper, headlights and the first 12 inches of the hood and fenders as well as the exterior mirrors is €450 incl. VAT (apparently this is a price reduced by 25%). This seems expensive to me and I was wondering if any of the other prospective F10 owners in Ireland were interested in banding together to get a bulk discount? I think I would be interested in 350€.
|
ashley97 (580hp) | I would be interested but what do you mean when you talk about a kit? Is it something you apply to yourself like the... uh Bra... that people are talking about here or is it a spray coating done by a specialist? Is there a link you could send that explains the product?
|
444666 (172hp) | This is an almost invisible film, pre-cut to fit the specific contours of the car in the areas I have described. The edge is less visible on light-colored cars than on dark cars and is designed to protect the paintwork from damage such as stone chips. Having seen the front end of my new cars deteriorate in the past for these reasons, I am very interested in applying a solution (definitely not a bra) but would like to get a better deal if possible. You can pay extra (250) to cover the whole hood (and fenders I think). Here is the supplier... http://www.revolutionireland.ie/contact.html

Have you asked BMW what they recommend? The reason I ask is that my F10, purchased 2 weeks ago, was a BMW Ireland car with 12,000km on it and there were no defects on the bumper or bonnet - I guess they must have doctored it for sale. I'll post again when I've been to Revolution.

mustang14 (104hp) | I recently updated the phone contacts on my Blackberry, but noticed that it hasn't happened on the car yet. A few times over the past few weeks I've seen a message that an update was in progress in my car. Does anyone know what is causing this, or can I request an update (a resync perhaps?) via the I-Drive? I looked in the manual and don't see any instructions on this. THANKS

vincent12 (805hp) | updated as per my last post: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=457725 I am now well and truly out of the loop. bought a car. I got a great deal on a canceled order so my wait time is only 10 days!!!! the specifications are as follows: new BMW 530d M Sport Touring automatic Carbon Black Metallic exterior Dakota Black interior Options: *19 M Sport alloy wheels *Sports automatic transmission *Matte aluminum exterior trim *Electric panoramic glass sunroof *Folding exterior mirrors electric *Heated front seats *Electric front seats with driver memory *USB audio/telephone *DAB radio *BMW Business speaker system *Sun protection windows *Visibility package *Professional media package *5 year/60 km maintenance package The car is about what I would have put on factory order, but I got a good deal on it, a fair part off price and the car should be delivered to me in a few days. 535d would have been great but it wasn't a deal breaker. I weighed the pros and cons against the proposed deal and decided after driving a 530d SE that the 3.0d engine was more than I needed in terms of real-world performance, i.e. standing in traffic jams, driving.

carrie (783hp) | I'm thinking of putting a new phone on my Christmas list, I have Combox, all I can see now is the contacts, does anyone know if there is a phone that does most of the functions of Office... I don't like BlackBerrys, it would be much I prefer an iPhone 4. I heard that a new iPhone will be released early next year (in March/April). Is this maybe worth the wait? ...seeing my calendar and emails would be great...voice text would be even better... Thanks ADN.
|
connect2 (444hp) | I received text messages to sync with the car today. I have a Nokia E5. If you don't like Blackberries, then I don't think you would, because they look a lot like a Blackberry. Most of the positive posts about the phone seem to favor the Blackberry Torch, so again, that's not good for your personal taste. If you're waiting for the new iPhone, you may also find yourself and the kids...well...that is...the kids with several hundred dollars to drop on a new iPhone.

I wouldn't expect the iPhone 5 (or whatever it's called) until June/July of next year, so I'd say buy the iPhone 4 now. I love mine, the best phone I've ever owned. It also works great with my new F10! Once you have an iPhone, it's hard to go back.

11101983 (670hp) | DNA 42 Go to the BMW website for a complete list of phones supporting various functions of the new Combox system. (It doesn't have all the latest phones, but it does have a few other than Blackberry.) From my limited knowledge, it appears that phones need to have the latest operating software to support Office support. I also think I read somewhere that BMW is working on a software update to the system and should be ready next spring,... which should open up all the Office features we're looking for. Do a search about it in this forum and you will find a lot of good information and the experience others have with Combox and their phones. I heard that the UK has been hit by snow...at least some of it. New car that handles well?

maravilha (512hp) | Personally, I have an iPhone 4 and I think it's a phenomenal phone. It is very polished and works very well. Most importantly, it works GREAT with the F10's Bluetooth and iPod interface. Technology is just one of those things you can never be ahead of. If you play the waiting game for the next best thing, you'll literally wait forever. Historically speaking, Apple seems to release a new iPhone every other summer and a refresh every year after the new model is released. Expect a refresh next year. Maybe more memory and different colors? Not worth the wait, IMO. Now if you wait for the iPhone to reach a certain CDMA carrier, that's a different story..

franny1 (27hp) | When the iPhone becomes available on Verizon, I will be leaving Blackberry. The iPhone is very cool.

yetunde (852hp) | Thanks guys, all the good stuff. My car now handles well, I have found that small changes in seating position help a lot and driving with both hands firmly on the wheel also makes a big difference. Yes, I know I'm supposed to... The snow wasn't a problem, but then I was pretty careful... I have to say I'm falling in love with the car again now... really great.

nana13 (965hp) | I have been driving my 535ix for a little over two weeks and 2 small rocks hit my windshield, leaving two small marks (no cracks though). Today I gave the car its first wash and discovered two small chips (2mm) in the paint from the hood down to the metal. I should have put the 3M clear protective material on the bumper and hood. I think I could still do this to avoid further damage. Does anyone know how the damage can be repaired and at what cost??
|
pink33 (575hp) | It's inevitable, no matter what you do to prevent it. Sometimes it's best to get them out sooner rather than later: road rash on your wheels, windshield nicks and rock chips... oh, and parking lot noises on your doors too. Just be lucky that the first one is over and you can now continue to enjoy your beautiful car..

Radamez (325hp) | Everyone feels bad when they see the first scratches on their beloved car. But such is the world... Sometimes I take 2 parking spaces to avoid bumps

2912 (338hp) | I found 2 small dents above my windshield. Ugh... How did they get there? Well, that was my first success. I just have to look past this.........Damn it hurts
|
280288 (32hp) | I already have a few parking lot scratches on the right doors, 2 chips on my windshield and a few on my right fender. PLUS last August on the highway near Oberhausen, Germany, my front license plate was hit by a piece of wood (that fell off a truck?) while still going 90 mph. .. (half a minute before it was over 150 mph) :/ I first thought I had a dent in my spoiler/bumper/kidney, but that was just the plate registration which is still a little curved (MDR). Small parts of the wood got stuck as if by magic between the front rim and the tire(...). I had to use a screwdriver to get this thing out... The first cut is the deepest, they say. My veteran (tomorrow is her 0.5 birthday) has had her shares, she is no longer a virgin. Traffic = World War III

precious11 (534hp) | If it's any consolation, my F10 was hit by a tree trunk 4 weeks after receiving it. The roof and passenger door were dented and had to be knocked over. I'm a bit used to it now, as my previous cars (E39 and E60) also had similar experiences. The E60 was hit on the hood by a fallen branch. E39 was also hit in the trunk by a fallen branch. It seems like the trees are attracted to me and my car.

isadora (363hp) | I had an impact on the back of my new F11 5 days after receiving it. The guy told me he was sorry, but he was reading text messages on his cell phone.

sandra10 (162hp) | Timeline of Ding on my car: Day 2: stone chip in windshield on highway Since then: - 2 x small stone chips in windshield - 1 x bumper hit by stone, small dent - scratches Minor damage to edge of two wheels - some late scratched carts on driver's door, repaint £600 job. BMW windshields seem to chip more easily than other cars..
