vainilla (976hp) When I was 17, I bought a car for 60 EUR for fun (without documents and me too). After the police caught me for 20 minutes, I looked like I was older than 17, so I pretended that I had forgotten the papers at home and checked if there were any driver's license slots from a car other than the car The car wasn't stolen so he said don't drive off road but went and went... I was so glad it had a 318i in the same color http://images.forum-auto.com/mesimag...318%201980.jpg

150391 (513hp) Black Astra 2.0 DTI Sport Edition. Not many people like Opel and even though they made bad cars, the Astra is pretty good. I liked it. It was a pretty solid car and is still used by a relative who is very happy with it.

january22 (932hp) '64 (used) Oldsmobile 88 Ragtop. A graduation gift from my parents. Memories... some good, some bad (the worst was that I had to sell it shortly after receiving it because I ended up in the army).

andrew77 (575hp) 1954 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday Hardtop, two-tone black and white. I bought it in 1966 for $250 and it was still in pretty good condition. I drove it into the ground. It finally gave up the ghost in 1969 or 1970. It was actually a pretty good car for the day.

28101978 (873hp) Let's do three Oldsmobiles in a row. Mine was a 1975 Starfire that I got in 1979. It was metallic silver, had burgundy vinyl and corduroy bucket seats and a 3.8 liter V6 (231 CID), four of which were on the floor. (It would be 20 years before I had a car with an engine that big again.) It had an AM radio with a speaker, but air conditioning. And it had six instruments in the instrument cluster: speedometer, tachometer, fuel, coolant temperature, oil pressure and voltmeter. The four-spoke steering wheel had metal spokes and the rim was upholstered in vinyl!

prinsesa (943hp) 1968 Volkswagen automatic transmission.

124578369 (460hp) I forgot to say there was an aftermarket 8 track player from Pioneer.

After the semester ended and I started my summer job, I installed a Pioneer digital AM/FM/cassette player and a pair of Jensen speakers.

ukraine1 (472hp) 86 The E30 323i had 240,000 km on it when I bought it and never had any problems with it. I regret it was a car, but I got it at a bargain price.

xEKx (684hp) 1984 The Sherpa crew bus was my first vehicle when I came over in 1991?? It had curtains everywhere. Belonged to my friend's father. The space outside certainly had its uses!

Then came my first car, 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, olive green, lime green bumblebee stripe. 383 cu in, 440 heads and a 440 camshaft. Black interior, 3 speed manual transmission on the floor with 8 track stereo LOL. The car ripped ass. I was 16 and in high school. I could really smoke the tires. When I was 18 I had to sell it after getting a ticket to a street race. My father wasn't happy about it. Bought a black 1972 Chevy Impala 2 Dr. and converted from a race car to a cruiser. My first BMW 320i, 1977. Oh man, I took another look at it when I saw that the first car you drove was a '63 Valiant - my first was a '62 with the same torque flite -Gear with push button. The first “own” car was a ’63 Ford Falcon Futura convertible with the very sporty 2-speed automatic transmission on the column. In reference to a previous post, the iPod/USB option in my 2011 F10 cost more than this car! First post here - I'm happy about the comments and insights about the F10, my first BMW ever.

hyperlite (886hp) 1999 Infiniti QX4 (170 hp, 3.3 liter engine). Loud pickup, but solid and reliable on highways. 2004 Nissan Maxima 2006 Lexus GS300 (swapped for the 2011 535i xdrive)

sinnet112 (945hp) Hello! Since I'm not much of a DIY guy, I prefer to pay a repair shop to install parts/accessories. I'm looking for a shop in San Diego where I can buy grills and pre-LCI side markers and install them for me. I'm willing to go to LA if I need to. Thank you in advance. -J

polo99 (115hp) There is absolutely no reason to pay to install either of these things. If you have two hands, you can do both within 15 minutes. You'll probably save $200 there. Let us know if you want to try it yourself and we can link you to posts about it. If not, we will cover the costs.

But in my opinion it's not a great handling car. Quote: Originally written by lsturbointeg. Probably depends on the rider and suspension you use? When I was in San Diego, I did a lot of canyon carving in the Palomar/Julian Mtns and picked up crumb apple pies at Mom's Bakery! So I pretty aggressively pushed my turbocharged Integra to the point where a few times I thought I was going to fly off the mountain and kill myself, lol! But with the F10 I could see the limitations when it was stock to the point where it is now. So I believe that the right setup and the skills you have as a driver really make a difference in how you can handle your car +1. The only way to truly enjoy this suspension is to drive way too fast on twisty canyon roads. (As long as the corners don't tighten at low speeds, this thing feels light, very nimble for its size, predictable oversteer under throttle, absolutely minimal body roll, it's excellent... for people near lots of windy single lane roads live or have On a long drive on the highway this thing is a thing of beauty. Tight right turns at low speed always result in understeer unless you set the turn correctly and put the power down, but once you enter a turn at more than Reaching 80 km/h, there is absolutely no hint of understeer. You have to break the law quite seriously to get the most out of this chassis, which is off-putting to many drivers. By the way, this rear-wheel drive car is an absolute treat Recommend always skipping xDrive on my first snow I'll never forget the season with this rear wheel drive 5 Series - it was more stable than 4x4s and drove through the snow predictably and like a champ should in terms of steering. I know the F30 for example may have lighter steering, but my early model F10 is just as heavy as average hydraulic steering and has a good feel. Think of it like the E90 steering, but less sensitive and less direct due to the soft suspension. The chassis of this car has the potential to drive excellently if you forego the soft suspension - good weight distribution, strong but capable chassis, aluminum chassis components. I didn't like how bulky and sloppy the car felt when I first got it. But if you keep this car within its limits and enjoy the smooth, refined chassis (like a Mercedes), it's quite wonderful and floats perfectly. If those slow corners are important, this is not the car for you.

danielle08 (767hp) Another thing is that there are many people who have never had the feeling of the tail breaking loose or drifting a little. If they feel the car slipping, they panic and pull back, or maybe they don't push their car as hard as they do. Do you think they do? That's why I've always believed in this saying when comparing who will win: the professional driver driving a slow car or an inexperienced driver driving a fast car

ivonne1 (145hp) I have a base model 535i 6MT car and found that car's handling in stock version to be terrible. There was a crash at every bump, the body rolled too much and at every curve the nose dived outwards from the curve. I ditched the run-flat tires, replaced the shocks/struts with Koni FSD units and M5/M650D anti-roll bars front and rear. The car corners much flatter now and handles much better, but it's still miles behind my E46 330i ZHP (which is admittedly much lighter and has slightly more tires). The biggest remaining downside is that the electric steering is so vague and there's no way to fix that.

Let's say this base model 528i is my sole driver (which it is) and I upgrade the sway bars + get Bilstein sport struts/ACS springs. Is it safe to call this a good handling car? Would it still ride nice and smooth on the highway, and will the impact over bumps be bad? I just installed 19" super low profile rims a few weeks ago and that helped a lot with the handling, but the camber over potholes isn't that bad...

In my opinion the main culprit for the extremely hard ride is the runflat tires. Switching to larger wheels with a lower profile tire certainly won't help.

My dad knows absolutely nothing about cars and yet he knew that those original Goodyears were the biggest piece of crap tires ever invented. At best decent in the dry, rubbish in the rain, rubbish in the snow. Very expensive - luckily mine isn't inconspicuous so it doesn't gush over every bit of a crappy road. Honestly, switching to non-RFT tires didn't make as big a difference as everyone claims, but it helped 100%. The steering has lost some of its sharpness due to the stiff sidewall. Low-profile tires don't make the ride as bad as you might think because they have so little tire on the rim, but they certainly don't help in the slightest. I have to drive slowly now and avoid the trash potholes in Toronto.

trelos78 (152hp) Quote: Originally posted by STR8-6IX ...the only way to truly enjoy this suspension is to drive way too fast on twisty canyon roads. I'm not sure your comments, which I highlighted in bold, reflect a common F10 trait. In my opinion, more the model, how the car is specified, what suspension, wheels etc. With my F11 chassis I certainly haven't had the experience of the chassis being less balanced in slower corners. Shows that there is a wide range of experiences and opinions across the F10 range. Then this is expected as we often don't compare apples to apples. Then there are driver expectations, different driving environments, etc. This also applies to the steering, as the steering does not feel the same on all models and specifications. I remember the same thing applies to most model ranges: specification makes a big difference in how a car drives. We also see it on the latest G30 models. One thing I always keep in mind: BMW cars are designed to still offer excellent dynamics at high speed and under load. Many cars fall apart in these conditions, but this can mean compromises often have to be made at lower speeds and in driver-only mode. I don't think many enthusiasts on the forums care too much about driving a loaded car, but rather just the driver. When I had my E39 540i, I was traveling with a friend for the first time. He expected a more refined ride at speeds of 50 to 60 miles per hour. Yes, it was good, but when you add some speed and feel it settle, you know the car is capable of so much more than the legal ones.

asdfghjklzxcvbnm (147hp) Quote: Originally written by DDD31 The handling of my F10 is definitely a mixed bag. As far as sporty handling goes, the 550 is too nose-heavy and definitely not agile and really doesn't inspire confidence when the road gets twisty. I realized that with the XDrive I have the base suspension and the poor RFTs, which certainly doesn't help the sporty handling. When it comes to handling in normal driving (particularly when driving on the highway), the 550 does a fantastic job of providing a smooth, comfortable ride and a real joy to drive. I hate to say it, but to me the F10 feels and drives like a Mercedes. I realize that BMW's goal was to make the F10 5 series more like a Mercedes in order to increase their sales. I think they succeeded in that goal, but unfortunately the days of BMW building a sports sedan that would outdo all competitors in the driver category are not coming back. I would agree except the power steering is completely different. Mercedes has too strong power steering, which takes away the fun for me. In my opinion, my 2001 530 and 2006 X5 were nimbler and more sure-footed..

Yes, it was good, but when you add some speed and feel it settle down, you know the car is capable of so much more than the UK's legal speeds could ever test. Even loaded with four adults and luggage, the dynamics were excellent. For me, the F10/F11 with the active suspension extends the working range compared to something with a passive suspension. So we can achieve the better low speed capability and the high speed and load capability without having to compromise. It's not the chassis that feels unbalanced, it's the weight of the car and the suspension, which feels very floaty and slow to respond in tight corners. In such corners it seems more prone to understeer and the body sways a lot, but I'm on the basic suspension. All of these characteristics disappear for me as soon as I drive faster, like you said with the E39. As long as I don't push the car too hard into corners at 30-40 km/h, the car is fun to drive and I enjoy it a lot.

blood22 (758hp) Having had some sitting time with my old E60 last week, the F10 definitely feels heavier. It's a 525i vs 550i so there's that factor. Do I like my F10? I feel like the 704s are sufficient for my driving these days. Maybe this is due to increasing aging. I don't have the opportunity to take many corners in the city, let alone take them at a noticeable speed to even appreciate the handling at 7/10. I like the brutality of the highway and the occasional squirt to make a stoplight but still make a turn in my 550i. The cushions disappoint me more than the suspension. I'm sitting in a rental 320i for a few more days and it's definitely nimble, but the seats are very tight. I say the 550 does what I wanted it to do. Luxury sports sedan... in that order. I'm not the type of guy who can manage to transform a large sedan into a DTM or sports car... I'm eyeing a few E46 M3 coupes or maybe even a 996 GT3 for some unadulterated fun and youthful modding.

gratis1 (939hp) Certainly not a fair comparison, but I recently rented an Audi A1 and afterward my F10 felt like... well, a pig before Christmas.

colts123 (787hp) I have the 704m suspension and it is fine as standard. Handling has been transformed with high-performance 20 rims and tires and M5 anti-roll bars. Now drives like a BMW should.

If I wasn't leasing I'd just do a few mods.
