090388 (963hp) One month old 2012 528i had a large crack on the driver's side of the windshield. It is clear that the shield will need to be replaced. I was hit by a rock on the 495 last weekend. The crack is approximately 8 to 10 meters long. The insurance has advised that if I use my BMW workshop to repair I will have to pay out of pocket and request a refund, or use a local glass shop who will bill the insurance directly - I just have to cover my $250 deductible. When I contacted insurance, I insisted on OEM glass, and the local store is calling me for that. A few questions: Since this is a lease, I'm concerned about the warranty. If the windshield is replaced with OEM glass by a third party, is there any risk to my warranty or lease return? Are there other things I should request from a third party, for example OEM sealant for the rain-sensing rearview mirror? I don't have a HUD. Is there any additional OEM molding involved? Are there any other components I should request? Is it worth saving money by doing this with my dealer? I don't want to lose my car for 48 hours if I don't have to. I have used this company before for an OEM window repair, and they were excellent, but I was concerned about my new car since it is a lease. Any advice is appreciated.

lynn01 (804hp) It sucks, but all the construction around Tysons (which I drive through every day) will be unavoidable. I already have a nice stone chip on my hood and one on the windshield. When I needed to replace the windshield on my e46 several years ago, I insisted that the company use only OEM parts, but I didn't insist on taking it to a dealer. Auto glass centers make dozens of them every day and know what they are doing. Get a list of your insurance company and Google it to get reviews and choose the best one. A good company will ask for your VIN so they can check the options, know what they're up against, and order the right one. Then they will come to your house to replace them. Don't worry, they do this all day.

140987 (255hp) Ask the dealer's service department where they send their lenses, then call them directly. Resellers do not replace glass, most outsource it. You want these contractors to do the job because they know BMW windshields and trim..

trashcan1 (892hp) Has anyone purchased different floor mats for their F10, and if so, can you tell us who and where? I was looking for another set of floor mats as the BMW carpet ones are black, for my black interior, and they seem difficult to keep clean as they pick up everything, so I was thinking of going with the BMW rubber mats. or a third party like Weathertech. Any suggestions are welcome. THANKS.

250791 (940hp) My brother lived in Denver and he owned the OEM rubber mats. I thought they looked worse in the long run because they pool everything they collect and post it (and they get damaged). Carpets absorb at least some of the mess. But I feel your pain...sorry, I couldn't be more helpful.

scarlet1 (912hp) In Hawaii, the problem with carpeted floor mats is sand related. It was a pain to keep my black carpet floor mat clean, so I purchased rubber floor mats from my BMW dealer for less than $100 for the front and rear. Since I purchased them from the dealership I purchased my car from, I received a 10% discount. I've looked around and I don't think you can find replacement mats, front and rear, for your car for much less than this price. I found out they were available in gray, beige or charcoal and bought the latter since the carpet in my car is black. Fits perfectly and coordinates very well with the interior. 17021980 (89hp) I have 23K km on my F10 528I. I have had to top up 6 times with over 1.5 liters of water each in the tank in the last 3 months. BMW HK did a pressure test and changed the water tank cap on my car. The problem is still not resolved. Has anyone encountered such a problem? THANKS.

291283 (610hp) My Land Rover Freelander did just that. They eventually had to replace the engine. Continue to dealerships. There's probably a leak somewhere, and if it's internal, it's probably cheaper to install a new block.

regina-rebina (604hp) I've read lots of things on this subject, some say yes and that the warranty is in danger! Some people say it's totally stupid and it's not? I had an e60 with remapping without any problems, also an e350 with no problems from the dealer. Would come free with a few extra horsepower and nm of torque! Does anyone work at BMW and can give us a definitive answer?

Does anyone work at BMW and can give us a definitive answer? On newer BMW. The dealer discovers that the car has changed euc, you lose the warranty on the engine and transmission. But Hargte offers its own 2-year warranty. My 535d is the first BMW that doesn't have a Hartge EUC, because of the arbitrary warranty. From 2011, BMW workshops must transmit engine data files to the importer for warranty work to be approved. When remapping and changes in the EUC are detected, you have problems with the engine warranty on the drive line. So this is the case in Norway and we have a 5 year or 200,000 km warranty. My suggestion is to buy a BMW with a big enough engine to meet our needs.

111180 (879hp) It depends on who is doing the tuning. I think if the remapping/piggyback ECU is from AC Schnitzer and the work is done by the BMW dealer then you are fine. If I remember correctly the UK distributor for ACS is BMWUK..

lizzard (220hp) With many threads here about car coding (especially this last one - http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=696777). I wonder why BMW doesn't offer the features people have found? Some I get that may be due to each country's legislation, but others I just don't understand. Examples, indicators on the HUD. Why doesn't BMW offer this, why is it in the car software but not published? Power and torque indicators - again, why not publish them? So why is this code there? Is a beta version and a committee has decided that it should not be released, so it is "disabled". I haven't coded my car (I can't deny it, I'm worried about ruining it and invalidating my warranty) but those of you who work in IT, it looks a bit like the car registry. Windows. Also what tools does BMW use to configure cars? I've mentioned E-SYS to a few dealers and received blank stares, implying they don't use it. I thought E-SYS WAS BMW software - isn't it??

E-Sys is not a dealer tool, it is a BMW factory tool written by ESG. BMW regional technicians/representatives normally have a copy, but it is not software that is distributed to dealers. Your dealer uses ISTA P/D to work on your car, that's why they give you blank looks. I've discussed this with my service tech, and although they don't code themselves, they turn a blind eye to it. Your mileage may vary! Now why doesn't BMW give us these options from the start? Several reasons, I suppose. For the US, it's probably our procedural nature, or maybe there have been too many collateral calls on this option in the past, maybe they think we're not enough smart to use it properly, or it's something they intend to launch sometime in a model year. refresh. Who really knows? All I know is that nowadays we can change different little things on our cars, and whether it's spoilers, wheels or coding, it's something that many of us do. Sean

I thought E-SYS WAS BMW software - isn't it??

omar13 (797hp) Personally, I love the N20 in my F10. It's really awesome to drive and it literally sips gas.

Sean

Bandit24573 (416hp) what happened to the N55?

290379 (668hp) This then explains the blank looks from the dealers. I figured they would have the tools to access every nook and cranny of the car. This is all very interesting, thank you

godofwar3 (612hp) I just have to say that I'm impressed with the 530d's fuel economy. Now I know it won't be as frugal as a 520d, but coming from an E39 530i which got me around 20 mpg in the city and up to around 35 mpg (UK) on smooth highways are great. In the city I seem to get about 35 mpg and I've seen a little over 50 mpg on the highways. Only over 300 miles on the odometer so far and the engine feels like it's relaxing a bit now and I'm sure it will improve but it's still amazing..

290477 (316hp) I only get 30 on city roads and around 40-42 on highways. I guess my right foot is a little heavier than yours...

ancient1 (909hp) After 5,300 miles I average 38-39 MPG. Quite good but very far from the official figure 50 MPG (obviously measured at lalaland...)

chrisom (6hp) well, I'm still driving, so I don't really push the car. I put it in sport and there is a very noticeable difference in performance. Be careful though because I don't want to exceed 3,500 rpm but at the same time I don't think it's good to drive so calmly. Once broken in, I'm sure my consumption figures won't be that high as I start to enjoy the effortless power.

cute09 (795hp) as well as an experiment, I drove about 30 miles on highways at a constant speed of 60 mph and before leaving the highway, I just got an average fuel consumption of up to 60 mpg. Obviously this dropped to 50 by the time I got home via city roads. Simply incredible, either that or the computer isn't telling the truth! This seems reasonable though and seems realistic I'll go 600 miles on the tank, give or take. The current average over nearly 800 miles is 37 mpg. Pretty amazing for a 2 ton door knocking car with a 3 liter engine.

nicole03 (358hp) Hello, I am about to purchase the Combox Media Upgrade Kit from Bimmertech. Has anyone on the forum purchased and installed it? Where did you install the Combox and the Bluetooth antenna? I'm very happy if anyone has instructions on where to install the parts and how. I have a 535D Touring F11 Thanks in advance Joafog

041192 (142hp) I'm sure my car had Bluetooth and Combox as standard. Mine being an F11 from 09/2010. The antenna must therefore already be installed. panxiaoyan (699hp) Hi Joafog.. I bought my F10 with Navigation pro and Mulf High installed for Aux/USB from factory.. Now I plan to install Combox Media with Bluetooth.. Because I already have Mulf high, I have MOST a cable and a 54 pin connector.. But to use Bluetooth I guess I need to add a Bluetooth antenna? And there I found this topic.. so I wonder if you found if the antenna is needed and where it is placed? Do you know which antenna is used? 84.50-6 928 461 or 84.10-9 142 092 Kind regards 1aBimmer

181280 (811hp) Today at WWDC, Apple announced plans to integrate Siri even better into the car and BMW was one of the announced logos for this proposed update. I wanted to start this thread not only to inform those who don't follow Apple news - but also to keep the information in one place so we can work on upgrading/coding any necessary changes ensuring that that we, the first users of the F10, are not left behind. behind what could be a fantastic combination of technologies. Imagine if you could display your iPhone screen on the CID... with the new turn-by-turn navigation and native voice activation built into Apple's upcoming iOS6 Map app - who needs FSC? Here's an article explaining the basics: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=704041

199126 (707hp) You raise an excellent point. During today's Apple Keynote, the Apple CEO specifically showed off the use of Siri in an F10. Here is the official response to the speech from BMW of North America: BMW has been at the forefront of in-car voice control as well as smartphone integration such as Apple's iPhone, said Dave Buckho, BMWNA spokesperson. Integrating Siri using BMW's voice-activated steering wheel controls is a logical next step. Apple's new Eyes Free mode lets drivers use Siri to interact with their iPhone by voice, even in the car. Users can not only make a call, but also listen to their favorite music, send a text message, create reminders, set alarms or create events without ever having to reach for their phone. BMW plans to offer Siri integration by mid-2013. Here's my question for you all: How would BMW introduce Siri integration in mid-2013 in the F10? This would be in the middle/end of the F10 production cycle. Could it be via a software update? Has BMW already released a software update for iDrive that users can download? I imagine the hardware wouldn't really need to change (there's already the voice recognition button). Thoughts?

fake08 (165hp) I hope they don't ask us to order a new BMW so they can integrate Siri. It would be hilarious and ridiculous!

adhian (294hp) I'm sure we need new cars. I assume this will be in July production.

asd123qwe (80hp) Hello, Office works fine in my car for messages, except it doesn't seem to offer "text to speech" for reading my emails while driving. I can read the email header while driving or read the full message while stationary, but I don't seem to have the icon for the system to read my emails aloud. My phone is a Blackberry 9300. Does TTS depend on the phone, car hardware, or do only certain geographic locations have TTS enabled? I am based in the UK. Thanks in advance.

nothing! (208hp) I would like to know how to do this as well.... Are the reading functions only for emails or can they also process texts? And does anyone know how to use RSS feeds? I still get internet without a connection, Facebook and Twitter updates work fine, but it's frustrating to have a car with so many toys that don't work...

24071980 (879hp) I just want the text messaging feature to work, which I can't seem to get. I have the original HTC Incredible, and while I can connect my phone book and audio via Bluetooth to listen to music, I can't get my texts through. What's the secret? THANKS...

chevy01 (70hp) @top6491 Your phone must have a Bluetooth profile called Message Access Profile (MAP) for this to work. I don't think Incredible understood that. You can check compatibility http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...eck_intro.html
