231175 (866hp) 2013 550 with all the goods. iPhone 4S IOS 6. All settings are described in this thread. No luck with texts/emails. Suggestions?

beatiful (475hp) Quote: Originally posted by BMWrules7 Just do one thing before you start, once your iPhone connects via Bluetooth. Press the round button once to access the icons. Press the round button twice very quickly. In the bottom row, find the email. Lightly place your finger on the email icon. When you see a red minus sign, let go. Tap the red minus sign next to the email icon. This kills the email process. Press the round button again. Restart email and go to the inbox. That's it. You can now use the iPhone however you want and emails will come to you via Messages... Assuming that part is already set up. I can confirm that this works as well. So I know 2 ways to receive emails when using IOS6 and there has never been a problem with text messages for me. Well done, Andy Andy

melly1 (317hp) Andy, what phone and what model year? All this via Bluetooth?

massacre (524hp) iPhone 4, 2012 (MY 2013) F10. The software is the latest version of the phone and car and all via Bluetooth. There are several tips for what to do with the phone when you get in the car, but one common thing is to let the phone lock by itself. Andy

vivitron (257hp) Many steps, but finally received messages/emails today. It's strange how difficult it seems to achieve this. It's only really worth it for longer trips. But text to speech is definitely a valuable feature. I had my phone connected via Bluetooth and an Iphone cable to the USB socket. I still don't know if the USB connection is necessary. Thanks for the good suggestions on this thread. Bill

timetime (531hp) Friends, I'm not sure what I did or didn't do, I've been receiving text messages for a while now, but this morning on my way to work a spam email appeared on my phone (iPhone5 by the way) and wouldn't you know it, the envelope appeared on my screen, at first I thought it was another text message that arrived around the same time, but nope.. .it was the email. I'll have to do some testing to see if it's consistent. look at the photos, the first one is a screenshot from my phone, an album cover was one. I listen to my music via Bluetooth, I took the photo as soon as I saw the message was an email. The second photo is the screenshot of the navigation system.

ghrhfh (527hp) what iOS version?

deutchland (249hp) Hello, Does anyone have installation instructions for BMW Kufatec Cic TV Mudul for BMW F10. I bought on eBay and don't have installation instructions. On the Kufatec website there should be an invoice number for downloads. If so, please send me on my email [email protected] best regards

daria (130hp) Has anyone noticed their car moving backwards or backwards somewhat after parking? I just started noticing it for the first time this week.

popovkin83 (426hp) It will probably just be the output shaft rotating until the parking pawl engages. If it slips a lot, the pawl (or the toothed parking gear it engages) could be worn or damaged. This will not happen if you apply the parking brake before putting the Tx into park. Many people disagree, but most car manufacturers recommend using the parking brake every time you park the car. Otherwise, the entire weight of the car still rests against the parking pawl and can eventually lead to fatigue failure..

1panther (579hp) Thanks for your response Oz.

03101985 (512hp) Every automatic I've driven does this if it's tilted after you put the car in P and take your foot off the brake. This is why I get into the habit of engaging the parking brake before taking my foot off the pedal..

121077 (528hp) Yeah, me too, all the cars. I usually apply the parking brake before going to park to avoid stressing the pawl. Probably not necessary but.......

manuella (782hp) I haven't noticed this being out of the ordinary (compared to other automatic systems I've owned). HOWEVER, I noticed one thing... I come to a traffic light and the engine stops because of the auto start/stop, and when I take my foot off the brake when the light turns green, the car reverses quickly until the engine restarts and starts. It's almost like it's in neutral when stopped

090983 (202hp) I've had my new F10 for a little over 2 weeks. The new pro navigation system and communications are excellent. We are planning a trip via Eurotunnel to France. To pass the time in the tunnel, we plan to watch a DVD on the built-in system. Tried a disc today in unplayable format, tried a disc I played the day I got the car, again in unplayable format. Standard CDs load playback and can be downloaded to the hard drive. I have tried cleaning DVD discs to no avail. Are there two lasers or is this a software fault? I can only take the car to the dealership in a week, so I have to wait for their conclusion. It probably needs a new DVD drive, so within a day to confirm, then order parts and again later. Did I miss something or was I unlucky enough to have a suspiciously broken DVD drive. Thoughts?

I think I read somewhere on this forum that you can reboot the system - it might be worth a bit of searching - although I'm sure someone with better memory will be here soon... I I found - press and hold mute for 30 seconds. (The volume button).

If it were me I would ask the dealer to fix the problem, if you start trying to restart, God knows what damage you could cause. I bet it's just a matter of the dealer setting up the setup correctly..

110590 (381hp) Hi, thanks for the advice, I tried restarting (press and hold the mute button for 30 seconds or more while the system shuts down then restarts), advice good result no. One of the IT guys thinks maybe I have 2 lasers and the one on the DVD is dead. It's not uncommon for hardware to be dead on arrival or to fail within the first week. I hope the service department has a replacement head on order or there will be two trips, one to confirm the death and a second to replace the unit. Still, it could be worse if the dealer took the car back and the warranty would cover the costs..

logan10 (31hp) Car repaired. Happy that the dealer was picking up the car, he made three visits, one to find a fault, an aborted repair due to a damaged replacement, and a third 6 day stay due to coding issues. The bill was almost £600, it seems the whole Pronav box was altered. I'm glad I copied the profiles and music to USB because everything was there. All navigation destinations lost. Found a new card unlock code document with documents. I'm just glad I don't have to pay. Really nice to have the car back after driving an F30 320d for the 6 days. The F30 drives well and consumes fuel. My daily commute was 54 UK mpg, a 50 mile motorway trip at 70 got me 68 UK mpg. Car ok but the interior lacks class. Specifying a 520d with professional navigation would cost no more than £100 over the 320d when you add leather and professional navigation. This doesn't make sense unless it's a company car and you're taxed on fuel consumption..

Shame on BMW for not working with Apple to resolve this issue and not keeping customers fully informed in the meantime. It seems a bit like they don't like their customers very much....

sysadmin (992hp) This has absolutely nothing to do with BMW! Apple restricts emails for security reasons. This is why only new SMS messages appear on the screen.

sixtynine6 (513hp) As I said, jailbreak and install btnotification, then the emails will appear. Either that or buy a second-hand blackberry. I might end up getting a blackberry because it's annoying to have both text messages and emails under SMS..

akiyoshi (59hp) I have to tell you, it drives me crazy. I'm quite technically gifted. I have an M5 version from November 2012. I have my 4S running iOS 6.1.3. I have all notifications configured correctly. But all I get when I set up my iPhone in the Bluetooth Options menu in iDrive are two options: Phone and Audio. I'm having them both checked. What am I missing?? by the way, I haven't updated my software to the latest bin version because I don't think that will fix this problem.

Whenever I'm on other windows, especially in entertainment windows, e.g. Radio, CD/Multimedia, I sometimes get them and most of the time I don't. Just a fact to consider.

040486 (203hp) I wanted to post an update on all of this. I'm extremely frustrated that this doesn't work consistently with the iPhone unless it's jailbroken. I received the BlackBerry Z10 two days ago and emails/texts/voice memos work OUT OF THE BOX. So this is clearly a problem with Apple not implementing the Bluetooth MAP profile correctly. Unfortunately the Z10 is a bit of a failed experience with the lack of native apps but I digress. I also stupidly updated my test iPhone 4 to version 6.1.3 thinking that Apple had improved the situation. Unfortunately, the update did nothing to ensure consistency. Luckily I was able to do a tethered jailbreak and the only thing that worked was the bt notification..

hilde (982hp) I managed to get email working with my 1M, but only briefly. I updated iDrive a while ago but it didn't solve anything. I tried to repair the BT, nothing. However, I noticed now that when the connected app is running, the screen never locks. If you turn off the phone, the connected app disconnects. (Pretty funny.) I think the texts are still coming. Tomorrow I will try some experiments. Use an iPhone 5 with 6.1.4.

1244 (275hp) Two different suspension systems, you specify one or the other. M-sport is passive suspension with simple parts, compared to active suspension with completely different components. The DDC with ARS still offers the possibility of sports suspension tuning. I have the M-sport pack (UK market) with Adaptive Drive (DDC + ARS), it's a superb suspension system, better than passive sports suspension, IMO. HighlandPete

sulaimon (623hp) Thanks Pete, With the DDC would any of the settings probably match the passive M suspension? Bill

yamina (398hp) The M sport suspension is new in the US for 2013, although it has been available for longer in most other markets, including the UK. That's why our British friends know all about it and most American owners don't know what it means. The setup is slightly lower and therefore uses different springs. The viewer actually shows it. If you want adaptive dampers as well as stiffer springs, you will need to order a DDC and change the springs, which some contributors to this forum have done..

cordova (563hp) So if I want a more rugged or stiffer ride, go for the M suspension. If I want to wallow, but be able to adjust my wallow, go for DDC? Bill

fishing01 (369hp) Quote: Originally Posted by Boulder Bill So if I want a sturdier or stiffer ride, go for the M suspension. If I want to wallow, but be able to adjust my wallow, go for DDC? Bill Opinion in the UK has been that the passive M-sport has a similar ride stiffness to the sport setting in the Adaptive Drive package (DDC and ARS). But it will be different because AD is a more refined quality than a passive system. I didn't have a chance to try the M-sport passive (just standard passive systems), I went straight for the AD package, as I wanted more refined quality, variable settings and a "mid "range" normal for most of my driving on poor quality surfaces. In my opinion, it is the ARS part that gives the car finer control, much better than a passive ARB (sway bar), because it works even with a softer damping setting, flat cornering and very controlled. The stiffness of the F10/11 M-sport is a softer setting than the E60/61 anyway, so some have changed the springs to get a stiffer ride than the stock F10 suspension, passive or active . So we have to be careful whether the comparisons are all F10 or if there is an E60 influence. I don't find my car wallows at all, even in normal mode, it certainly stiffens in sport, but I drive in normal mode most of the time, for the mix of suspension qualities. This will depend on what we define as wallowing, some want a "rock hard" suspension, so everything else is classified as wallowing. HighlandPete

p000000 (857hp) Personally, I prefer the E60 M-Sport suspension to anything offered on the F10.

knight01 (991hp) Using the media adapter, we can play videos recorded from iPhone by selecting a video playlist. Is there a way to force the video screen to be displayed for current playback? When I watch a video on YouTube and the device is plugged in, my phone says Connected to TV and I hear the sound in the car. However, the video screen is not displayed so I cannot watch the video. I found out last night that the video was actually playing in the background but just wasn't being seen. You can test this by playing a YouTube video and then selecting a saved video from a playlist. The car will immediately switch to the video screen and for 1-2 seconds you will be able to see the YouTube video playing on your car screen before the recorded video loads and starts playing. This tells me that hardware video works just fine. Is there a way to force the video screen to be displayed for now playing so that it works for YouTube or other streaming videos? There doesn't appear to be any way for the car to display this screen unless a recorded video is selected. -Jayson

jason15 (172hp) This also interests me. I read somewhere that this is indeed possible, but only on certain cars (with a specific package). I'll try to find the link. Another option is to set up iPhone mirroring on the navigation screen (although the video/audio can be perfectly synced if you use Bluetooth.).

191292 (561hp) I also have Pro Media Plus and Snap-In. However, I didn't choose any BMW Apps option because who cares about web radio, Facebook and Twitter. Only later did the dealer explain that the video playback function required BMW apps to work. Sat

ruffryder (537hp) My new 2012 528 suddenly displayed the engine fan malfunction warning. The computer then regulated the driving so that I could not accelerate normally. I'm curious how many other owners have experienced this in their cars. I'm a little worried about having this error so early in the car's life. The car is at the dealership now..

BMW has an ingenious way to test your new engine after production. They connect an electric motor to the engine and connect numerous sensors to test the engine... without resorting to combustion. However, some temperature-sensitive components may not be properly stressed, which may explain why the fault was not detected in your car..

After a WHOLE WEEK, the dealer finally tells me my car is ready. I go to get the car, and I didn't even leave the parking lot, and then I got a powertrain malfunction warning. Needless to say, I was a little pissed at the dealership. Amazing!!

10121989 (184hp) So what happened??

cyrano (364hp) Quote: Posted by E39hijinks So what happened?? I finally got the car back after a week and a half in the garage. The powertrain malfunction warning was apparently caused by a disconnected vacuum hose. The worthless service rep couldn't (wouldn't) tell me why or how he got disconnected. The Faln motor malfunction was apparently due to a bad fan which was replaced. I assume the vacuum hose was disconnected during the fan repair. I just can't believe how insensitive and arrogant the service representative was. All I know is that if I notice any more malfunctions, I'm going to lemon the car. Other than that, very happy to have the car back!

keratose (41hp) Am I the only person who wishes I waited for the Audi S to come out?6 2013?

25021977 (203hp) Not me!

люблютебя (195hp) NO...I don't like it..

registration (698hp) Sorry, but body style is not my cup of tea.

heart13 (425hp) I drove it with the RS5 before moving into the M5. I came away disappointed with both for several reasons. Even the lure of employee pricing at my workplace didn't convince me..

jonathan. (519hp) I'm happy to be able to count on my Series 5 brothers to give me fair and unbiased opinions. But seriously, the performance numbers don't even do it for you guys.?!

841026 (146hp) Quote: Posted by bstoakes I'm happy to count on my Series 5 brethren to give me fair and unbiased opinions. But seriously, the performance numbers don't even do it for you guys?! No. The car just wasn't very comfortable for me and that instantly wipes out all the performance numbers. The fact that ventilated seats were not available with the beautiful diamond-patterned sports seats was also a deciding factor. I wanted to love him. I just couldn't. But I will say that I like Audi's MMI in the S6. Additionally, the engine noise in both cars was phenomenal in my opinion. But overall, there's something about BMW's interior that touches me more. I find our seats more comfortable and I'm a big fan of the ergonomics and colors of the cockpit. I found the Audi a little too jarring at night.

zcegth (894hp) Quote: Originally posted by bstoakes Am I the only person who wishes I had waited for the 2013 Audi S6 to come out? Why not trade in your 535i for the S6, you might lose a bit of money, but as long as you're happy with the car that's all that matters. If I had the money I would buy the S6, but $80,000 for a car is a bit much for me and no discount either..

Iloveyou1 (921hp) Maybe the S6 is a better choice if you're looking at almost $80,000 and need a 4X driving performance car already tuned (engine, exhaust, tires, and suspension) from the factory. The closest BMW match would be a 550xi with Dynamic Handling Package (ARS+DDC) and M Sport Package. You'll save about $5,000 but, to truly match the S6, you'll have to at least upgrade the 550i's exhaust, ditch the RFTs, and lower the BMW's suspension. Maybe even the Dinan Stage 3 course which then gives you a head start in terms of performance, but which will swallow up the savings you could have made with the BMW and bring you closer to 80 000 $..

matarani (756hp) Not me! I don't like the look of the headlights and grille. It looks like a Chrysler. The taillights aren't very stylish either. The Series 5, in my opinion, exudes true class and artistry. Audi models all try too hard and fail stylistically.

08101980 (52hp) I almost bought a Prestige A6 3.0TT before finding my beast. I wasn't getting the deal I wanted from BMW, so I almost turned to Audi, but I was never ENTIRELY thrilled with the car. 1. I felt like I would have to do a lot more to get the Audi modified to my visual taste. Tons of chrome remove ect. 2. The Audi's tech is nice, but if you really want to use it, be prepared to spend an extra $30 a month to make it all work. Plus, this moving display is just a problem waiting to happen. read many problems on them without increasing or decreasing. 3. I just don't feel like the Audi brand has the same weight as BMW. A BMW is a legend in itself and an Audi is just a car that is on the rise but has been making pretty unreliable cars for a while. Just before pulling the trigger on the Audi, I called the BMW dealer again and was able to get a sick offer on 12's since they were starting to pull 13's. This was the ride I wanted all along.

301290 (883hp) You're not wrong when you say the 5 is a nicer car. don't get me wrong, both cars are nice but the 5 is nicer. I think the point is I want more power, I guess I need to start looking for 550.....

newyorkcity (840hp) OR, one of you can give me $100,000 and I'll get back an M.5

1boomer (173hp) The A6 was my other option, I really loved the way it drove. But it all came down to looks, not to mention how classy the F10's interior compared to that of the A.6.

shit13 (897hp) Audis aren't my specialty, but a coworker just got a brand new S5 2 weeks ago and he was kind enough to show me his new pride and joy. From the outside the shape looked pretty nice, but it was the same red as in the previous photos of the yarn. The color was a little too ostentatious for me but to each their own. Inside, to be honest, I felt a little cramped, the space didn't seem big to me. It was pretty lavish, but a couple of things I didn't like were the sheer size of the huge automatic gea stick and the small and uninspiring new computer interface (whose icons were all small and fiddly). I liked some weird little details such as the ability to insert 2 music SD cards into the dash to play music. Overall the car was very nice but personally I'm looking for a luxury feel and I get it from materials, space, color and technology. I didn't get that feeling in the S5. When it comes to performance, I've dedicated sports cars when it becomes important to me and in the meantime, I'm looking for good handling and responsive handling. I have no doubt that its S5 could deliver them in spades. It had 20-inch wheels, which looked good, but he said his ride was very hard, too hard for his wife. I am only giving my observations (many will say that I know nothing) nothing scientific. Nice car but in my opinion, not a car that would make me lustful or feel special every time I get in it. Good luck, Sam.

longboard (33hp) There's nothing special about the A6/S6 for me!

coh4777 (110hp) What pushed me towards the F10, besides its looks, was the interior space and luxury. The A6/S6 have a poor color choice, cramped space like the A4, and they don't look that luxurious to be honest.

The A6/S6 is the most capable and the 5 Series is the most luxurious cruiser..
