19871029 (115hp) | Does anyone else feel a slight highway vibration coming mainly from the rear of your 5 Series? I have had the tires and rims checked and they are perfectly balanced and have low road pressure. I'm just wondering if anyone else has this problem? Here too I am talking about a slight vibration. Please get in touch everyone.

darrylh (468hp) | Isn't it the same as before? I know there are at least two people here who have had this problem and they are taking our cars back. You should go to the workshop again, they changed the hydraulic bearings on mine, new tires, balanced road force, but without any improvement.....

wingedwheel (815hp) | I can't believe BMW still hasn't fixed this problem on the 2013 F10. The problem has existed since 2011. Replacing tires, rims and balancing may help, but will not eliminate the problem. Some F10s turned lemon yellow due to this problem. My 535xi has a slight vibration between 65 MPH and 70 MPH, so slight that I don't want to chase my dealer around to fix the problem.

150479 (776hp) | I found this on another forum: Seems like this is VERY common and normal on the F10 5 series. Dampen vibrations at highway speeds - The only real gripe I have with the car is that driving at highway speeds (70-80 mph) turns the gentle float on the road into more rhythmic vibrations in the seat and steering wheel than mine would be nice. It happens in all suspension settings. It's reminiscent of the feeling of unbalanced tires, but is much more subtle. My five-year-old S5 has no such feel on the same stretches of highway, so it could clearly use improvement. However, I recently felt the same thing on my friend's older 750, so I don't think there's anything "wrong". Like most people who are involved in the forums, I'm very excited about every little sensation in the car. It's hard to say how much of this is due to the Goodyear LS2 RFTs, compared to RFTs in general, compared to the vehicle design (which is intended to convey driving feel). Maybe one day I'll put some non-RFT pilot sports on it and find out. I've been struggling with this feeling for a year on my 535i Quiet ride, but on most highways 70-80 there is a slight back and forth vibration feeling in the front seats and it annoys me a little because I've been trying to pinpoint the cause of it Find out and have driven other 5 Series Mostly everyone does it. However, apart from this small vibration zone, the Michelin tires make the car quieter and more comfortable. My 335 xi coupe doesn't do that at all, no matter what highway and at what speed. So it's confusing. My Audi A8L is also much more planted. It seems that at this 70-75 speed, this soft suspension of the 5 Series develops an unconventional harmonic and becomes bumpy no matter how perfect the tire/wheel balance.

19121993 (541hp) | I also had this problem on my 2011 550i where the rear end started vibrating at 65-80 mph. After buying new non-run flat tires it completely disappeared. I'm assuming these are run-flat tires and don't wear evenly. Here is a picture of my worn RFT tire after about 30,000 miles. It may just be my case, but it worked for me
|
football67 (207hp) | Has the timing chain been replaced???
|
(623hp) | I had the same problem, the dealer replaced the tires with other RFTs, with improvements but no solution. They said that the RFTs get a flat spot while the cars are being transported (all tires do that), but on the RFTs that flat spot doesn't go away due to the hard side of the tire. Never been mounted/transported, should be a big improvement. ... Go back to your dealer and have them fix the problem, pay for tires, rims or whatever the problem is... No solution, lemon the car!!

trivettx (917hp) | I have an appointment at my other BMW dealer in town tomorrow and they will take a look at it too. I'm hoping I can fix this because this morning I drove a 2011 BMW 535i M-Sport with Michelin tires for 24,000 miles and this vibration was NOT present. My car has only driven 2,000 miles and you can feel the vibrations coming mainly in the back, in the headrests of the front seats, in the accelerator pedal and just a little in the steering wheel and also in the floor. VERY annoying. When I got a replacement rear tire the vibrations improved, but they seem to be coming back.
|
letsplay (921hp) | I have the same problem and thought I was going crazy. Immediately after purchasing my car, I purchased Discount Tire's tire warranty and had the balance of each tire checked, but everything is normal. Very frustrating. I'm taking mine back to the dealer next week to see what else they can figure out. I believe the active suspension is responsible, but I can't prove it...
|
160586 (304hp) | Since it was new I have felt a slight vibration noise. There is a constant, low-pitched drone that is most noticeable at highway speeds. I always assumed that it came from the Dunlop runflats. I also feel a very slight sense of vibration and have not taken my car to the dealer for repair. At this point I don't think what I'm experiencing is unacceptable, but there is definitely something there. From reading the forums I am constantly aware of this problem and so far it has remained consistent and not gotten worse the more miles I have put on the car.
|
280293 (189hp) | My car now has just over 2,000 miles. The fluttering smoothed itself out. I think the tires needed to be broken in as did the suspension and the car. The car now drives very smoothly at highway speeds, with no more vibrations or shuddering. I love my car!
|
santas (362hp) | Happened to me when the car was new (1000-2000 km). 18 rims + continental RFTs. About 2-3 times, always on the highway. Hasn't happened since then.
|
130194 (773hp) | Yes. Must be. Today we got a second 535i for our household (not an M-Sport), but with DDC. Had the same shaking as my M-Sport when it was new, but not as bad. It must have something to do with the car needing to settle down after about 2,000 miles. My M-Sport now runs super smoothly. I'm sure the second 535i we just bought will suffer the same fate.
|
motley (558hp) | Are there owners who haven't had this problem??
|
455455 (846hp) | It's normal behavior. Once the car settles in and the tires are round, the car starts to drive smoothly. The body of the 5 Series is so rigid that I believe it must be in harmony with all components when new.
|
crusty1 (296hp) | No, tires don't always smooth out and release vibrations! Too many people haven't experienced this and instead these junk F10 models have been treated with lemon juice. It's a real shame for BMW to still sell this car with problems even after two years on the market. BMW chases market share and makes it ubiquitous like any Chevy or Ford out there. Crap quality.

bestbuy (288hp) | Do you have the little orange tool? BMW stopped using it after a certain production date...but a 2011 may still have the tool. It is used to manually shift the transmission into neutral. If you don't have this tool, it will be much more difficult to get the car to idle. If you have the tool, check your owner's manual for information on how to use it and the location you need to access .

fattygs (631hp) | They must have a build date created after BMW eliminated this tool and this method of manually selecting idle. The best advice I have is to just google or go to YouTube to find videos showing how to put the transmission in manual mode that would apply to your setup. Be warned... there are several options depending on build date and platform model... so look for videos or guides that fit the manufacture of your BMW or if a model is similar (e.g. 5 Series and 7 Series with similar construction data). ). On my 2015 f06 650ix you have to go under the car. On my 2014 X5 there is a steel cable in the cargo area that you can pull up to release the transmitter. Good luck.
|
halo (39hp) | I searched on YouTube and Google and it didn't help me much. I was a bit confused as to why BMW makes it so difficult for us to do something simple. Even with the starter you have to remove half of the top of the engine to get to the engine behind it..

If you push the start button and the engine doesn't start within about 10 seconds (I don't know if once or three times), you can shift the transmission from park to neutral for pushing/towing. However, if you don't have power, the only solution is to drive under and unlock the parking lock manually.

560095 (739hp) | On my (F10) 2015 535i: Electric - there is a gearshift "trick" that puts the car into neutral (but I think you need power, not starting conditions, for that to work). Mechanically – yes, I have to crawl under and drive an Allen screw on the side of the gearbox. craziness. Try searching this website for information. I'm sure I've posted the TIS information before. When I get back to the office tomorrow I will post the PDFs.

The whole idea of jacking up the car, crawling under it, and screwing in a bolt to turn off the transmission seems like poor design to me... but then again, I'm old and used to simpler things. Printed out two copies, one for the F10, another for the E70 '13. Both have the screw screwed in from below, which is probably the lamest thing ever! Thanks again for putting this together and sharing!

I think that might be the actual name for it...lol If the information helps just ONE person at a time in their time of need, then the time and energy spent will be worth it. If I find myself in the situation that I need it, I pray that the method of entering the cheat code works with the gear shifter. If I have to use the mechanical method while in a major metropolitan area, I have to work quickly. Here is a picture of what it looks like:

100908 (431hp) | Morning. Having had many older BMW models, I recently bought a fairly new 530d Xdrive as a daily driver, although I'm not particularly impressed with the suspension. Overall, I'm used to firmer suspension and the F10 just feels way too floating and bouncy. I replaced the bushings and refreshed it but it's still the same. I thought, no big deal, I'll just get sportier shocks and springs, but I'm faced with the fact that most kits, such as Koni, state that they are only for the RWD versions?! Anyway, I would be happy if someone who has an F10 My car has the normal, non-active suspension.

ventana (946hp) | Part of the F10's smoothness is the electronic steering. You can't get rid of that :-(

I'm talking more about the general stiffness, I don't like the fact that the car is so bouncy and almost feels like you are The shock absorbers burned out when driving (but mine are fine).

I would imagine there must be a Bilstein/HR combo for XDrive out there somewhere?

I can find some Bilsteins, but I'm not sure if the B6 or B8 would be more suitable. I know the B8s are stiffer, but I've heard that they are even too stiff.

231081 (99hp) | All xDrive vehicles have hydraulic steering. As for the OP question, I have Bilstein B6 with Dinan springs. I also made stabilizers from H&R. I am very happy with the result. Not too stiff, but not as floaty or underdamped as the original.

QWER1234 (246hp) | H&R springs on factory struts made a big difference for me. Drives great and doesn't float like a Cadillac.

How long did you have her? People on another forum said the stock shocks would make the car even more bouncy and would just cause the shocks to burn out very quickly.

280681 (695hp) | I have now driven about 100,000 km with standard H&R shock absorbers. No problems.

bigboy01 (354hp) | I'm debating whether to go for the Bilstein B6 along with the H&R adjustable springs. Ideally I would like coilovers, but KW V3s are way too expensive and I don't trust the BC in my Nordic climate. I have EDC but rarely use it and the EDC shock absorbers are insanely expensive..
