193746 (786hp) | It depends on the age of the children. I borrowed an X5 for almost a month and my wife loved the extra space it had both in the back seat and in the trunk. The trunk only because our daughter just turned 1 and still needs a big stroller. The interior room is convenient because my wife still has to feed her and change her diaper. We get by with all these things in the 550 but it's definitely. is not that easy. Once we get the big stroller out of the way and she's able to feed herself, I'd say both cars will do their job well. So if your kids are older, the 550 won't be a problem. two babies...I wouldn't do it. By the way, the level of refinement/luxury/power going from the E70 X5 to the 550 will make you feel like you've just arrived on another planet. Good luck. Alan

Alan, I hope my wife never sees this message. We have our first child coming in December and all of my wife's friends were adamant that we needed to get an SUV. Note that we are a one-car family who rarely drives (my 2011 335 has less than 15,000 miles) because our Toronto neighborhood has everything within walking distance and we both take the subway to work. Despite her friends' advice, I managed to convince her that a 550 was all we needed: the parents survived decades without an SUV and did just fine. Luckily, she didn't particularly care about how the X5 drove, so the decision was made easier, but she's questioning that decision now because of all the annoying comments still made by her friends. It doesn't really matter now since the car was built to order and left the port of Bremerhaven! Anyway, I'm glad my wife doesn't read the forums and I'm also happy to hear that Alan survives having a kid in a regular old sedan.!

escada (878hp) | ^^ My situation is almost identical to yours and I was in the exact same position before we got our first F10. Everyone found out we were having a baby and automatically thought of a minivan or SUV. I managed to convince my wife that a big sedan was enough. My recommendation to make your life easier (without your wife complaining all the time that the car is too small...) DO NOT buy a large stroller. I know they are popular and I was swayed to buy an Uppa Baby Vista because it looked cool. It's massive and although it fits nicely in the F10's boot, it's a real hassle loading and unloading shopping while the stroller also has to get in and out. Stick to a Snap In Go system first, then wait until you can put your baby in these umbrella style strollers. Uppababy makes a very pretty one. These will still give you most of your trunk space. Your back and ears will thank you. Select your baby car seat carefully. Different brands will have a huge impact on the space occupied in the rear of the car. I initially opted for the Recaro simply because I'm a car enthusiast and who doesn't want a cool Recaro seat? but it is quite wide and allows two people to be seated in the back with your baby seat very close together. We recently replaced it with a Diono baby seat and it is so much better. It's much narrower, so you can fit two legitimate adults in the back with the baby seat. My daughter just turned one and I got my first F10 two weeks before she was born, so trust me on this, Alan.

tiger74 (156hp) | I have three kids and we all have plenty of space in my '14 550i. I'm delaying buying an SUV as long as possible because I hate them.

zer0cool (654hp) | We own an E70 X5 and an F10 550i and before that an E60 with the X5. Our child is 5 years old and the F10 makes it easier for him to climb without help. Cargo space is similar between the two, unless you have one of those huge, bulky strollers. I hate driving the E70 and my wife doesn't like driving the F10. It all depends on personal preference I guess.

sexy66 (411hp) | Thanks for the advice. I pulled the trigger on a 2013 550i today. Between cash, BMW loyalty, and rebates, I received $8,500 off the MSRP of $84,000. I think I did pretty well. I love the B&O sound system and the v8. Two things I didn't have in X5.

Cosmo335i (897hp) | I currently have a 2011 X5 35d and am considering upgrading to a 2014 550i. Has anyone made this switch and regretted it? I have two kids and want to be sure that the small amount of legroom and rear cargo space won't be lacking in the X5. Thoughts and opinions appreciated.

SilverNMeanE92 (282hp) | Hi friends, sorry if this has been reposted or covered in another forum on this website, but currently in the market for a 2011 or 2012 535i 6MT. I have found a few 6MT builds in my area and will be looking to get a deal done agreement in the coming months. Most have around 30-35,000 miles on them, so they will still be under warranty...however, is there anything in particular I should be concerned about or take note of? I've owned BMWs before, so I'm not naive to all the problems and even potential lemons that some BMW models can be...but for this particular model, what are the main issues/potential problem areas including I have to be aware. ? cocacola123 (299hp) | I was in a similar situation with you when we first purchased our Infinity M45 in 2008. After 9 months of ownership, 38,000 damages (including chassis damage) were incurred on a car worth close to 50,000. The insurance decided to repair it (much to my surprise). At that time I was told that the best way to handle this issue was to find out if your state had any laws regarding diminished car values. Your adjuster may or may not include it, but if they don't, you may be able to sue them to have this DV added to the cost of the car. This could very well put it past their threshold for repairing or totaling the car. Also, as someone already suggested, get quotes from several authorized repair centers as well. Luckily, the most respected repair shop in my town was also an approved supplier, so I know the quote I got was legitimate. Since the car was rented, I decided not to spend too much time fighting it (but I was prepared if necessary). I told Infinity Financial (since they actually own the car) that the car was in a serious accident and would be repaired instead of replaced... thinking they would pursue further action with insurance because I thought it was a car whose chassis had already been damaged. would suffer a significant loss in value. They agreed with the expert so we left it there but not before confirming that I would not be penalized at the end of the lease for this wreck..

29011986 (662hp) | Tap to get the total. This amounted to 19,000 damage. They installed the main harness on this side because it tore in the wreck and they didn't want to wait 8 weeks to get a new one from Germany. I exchanged it and ordered a new one after it was repaired..

It makes a big difference. Would this be comparable to the ride and handling of the 2013 msport. I suspect few people would take on a ride that is harsh or changes the character of the car. It also appears that the M suspension includes different shock absorbers and even a different upper control arm. Just curious about the acs/dinan vs msport suspension.

Close-ups of the new intake grilles on the bumper? I posted this elsewhere recently and am looking for clarification on this: Oh, and can anyone with an LCI M Sport confirm if the new centered position of the fog lights causes you to not see the large radiators behind the side air intakes (that is, if the grill in front of them is now closed because the fog lights are in the middle), or if they have repositioned the radiators so they can still have free air ? Or what if like the F30 with fog lights, had they now removed the radiators which were exclusive to the 2011-2013 M Sports? I'm really curious about this. If you look inside the side intakes of a pre-LCI M Sport you will see the fog lights pushed to the edges so next to them (in the middle of the intakes) the holes are open/functional and there are two radiators behind them. , allowing for additional cooling (an exclusive benefit reserved for M Sport cars that many people don't know about). As I said before, on the F30 M Sports you either get the fog lights and NO additional radiators (US cars) or you get open holes feeding extra radiators without any fog lights (European cars). The pre-LCI F10 M Sports found the perfect way around this with M-Sport-exclusive fog lights AND additional radiators behind the side air intakes, and I hope the LCIs didn't sacrifice that with the new central position of the fog lights..

On pre-LCIs, the fog lights sit all along the outer edges of the air intakes, allowing the vent holes next to them to feed air to additional radiators (pre-LCI M Sports exclusively receive these additional radiators for additional cooling. With LCI, the fog lights are now in the middle of the bumper's lower side air intakes, blocking air where the pre-LCI supplemental radiators are located. So I'm wondering if there are still those extra radiators behind the lower bumper side air intakes. and if so, can air still access it freely even with the fog lights right in the middle? If you or anyone can inspect and/or take close-up photos of the lower right and left bumper air intakes (where the fog lights are housed) to see if there are these radiators behind them, that would be great! As for KIDNEY grills, I love the new ones! Very subtle difference but I like their less slatted appearance.

kimberly01 (627hp) | Just curious, why do you think additional ventilation is so important? I believe BMW would ensure there is sufficient cooling anyway? :-)

percussion (298hp) | I would as well, but a visible open radiator is a visible open radiator and I for one would rather have more than less. These cars need all the cooling help they can get.

jamesb (590hp) | I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with BMW NA with a woman who couldn't answer a single question I had. She kept referring me to my dealer who knew as much as she did. I don't know if anyone here can answer, but here are my questions. 1. Since they did away with the front LED turn signals, when you add the LED lighting package do you get the front LED turn signals? Also does anyone know what suspension you get if you add the adaptive transmission? Also as a side note, I took a photo of the front LED fog lights. There is a radiator visible behind each fog and the intercooler is visible on the lower center grille, with the radiator visible through the kidneys. Does anyone know if these are the two oil coolers behind the fogs? Thanks in advance.

cipolla (582hp) | Quote: Originally posted by kthankzbye Regardless, to really enjoy the F10's suspension and ride, you have to go to the aftermarket. Dinan or ACS are both very good.

Stick to the facts and stop spreading speculation, guys... If I succeed, my car will be too intact and in good condition to trade in at the end of the lease, and I'll get a nice discount on the residual value, leaving me with no choice but to buy it back. Otherwise, 991 will indeed have a second chance.

The pre-LCI F10 M Sports hit the sweet spot with M-Sport-exclusive fog lights AND extra radiators behind the side air intakes, and I hope the LCIs didn't sacrifice that with the new center position fog lights..

orange55 (901hp) | At least in the EU, the sports transmission can no longer be added to entry-level engines such as 520i, 518d and 520d. It's a shame because I have the sports automatic transmission in my current F11 520d and I love it. I tested an lci F11 520d xDrive with the standard car the other day and it wasn't as good as the sports automatic. For higher range engines, you have the option of choosing between a sports car or a standard car. But if the 528i comes standard with the sports car in Taiwan, you may not be able to change that. The price difference between the two transmissions is around $300 in the EU.
