I have an article “Getting to Know Anxiety”, in which I wrote about the occurrence of anxiety, how anxiety differs from fear, and destructive ways to reduce anxiety. If you haven’t read this article yet, I recommend reading it, since this publication continues the topic of anxiety and reveals one of the destructive ways to reduce anxiety. In the previous publication, the fourth and final method that I wrote about is avoiding situations, feelings or thoughts that can cause anxiety. For example: a girl for whom playing sports is associated with a fear of judgment may completely refuse to go to the gym or any activity physical education, convincing herself that she does not like it. Such avoidance may be unconscious, and the person, without realizing her choice, forms an internal inhibition. Internal inhibition can manifest itself in the inability to do, feel or think about certain things. The ban helps to get rid of an unpleasant situation and no anxiety penetrates into consciousness. Since anxiety is completely repressed from consciousness, it finds other ways of manifestation, for example, manifesting itself in bodily reactions: paralysis of the limbs, frigidity, impotence. May affect the mental sphere: a ban on expressing one's opinion or establishing contacts with people. In order to begin to recognize the internal prohibitions associated with anxiety, you will need to make several conscious efforts. The very first thing is to realize that you have a desire to do something and your inability to do this. For example, you agree with friends about joint leisure activities. You may not like the suggestions your friends make, but you don't say anything. You have a desire to express your dissatisfaction, but an internal prohibition prevents you from doing so. It may be that at the very moment of discussing plans, you do not notice your dissatisfaction, and then it may appear after discussing plans or the next day, or maybe you do not realize it at all and begin to support your friends’ proposal. The second thing is to try to understand what function does the ban serve? It is important to understand that the prohibition is perceived as a fact that a person does not doubt. If there is overwhelming anxiety associated with creating a relationship, a person may insist that he does not want a relationship or that he cannot find a suitable partner. But if one recognizes the prohibition, the person will have to enter into a relationship and experience great anxiety. The third is to look for a cultural prohibition that supports the internal prohibition. Perhaps an individual's prohibition cannot be recognized because it coincides with culturally approved prohibitions. The simplest thing that comes to my mind is religious dogma. A man may have an internal prohibition against approaching women, and this prohibition is reinforced by the religious idea of \u200b\u200bthe holiness and purity of women. This is not all that can be written about prohibitions, but at least these three factors will help draw your attention to the prohibitions that you have, and take a step towards awareness of your anxiety.
