Fear is a natural emotion that we all experience. It arises in response to the perception of danger, risk or uncertainty in a certain situation or relationship. Fears are biological, social and existential. Biological fears arise from fears for one’s life and health, and for the life and health of one’s loved ones. Social fears are associated with loss of one's social status. For example, fear of failure, fear of public speaking. Existential fears are associated with fear of death, fear of loneliness. Why do we need fear? Fear is able to warn us of danger, helps to mobilize all our resources to avoid danger. Therefore, not all fears need to be completely eliminated. That is, fear tells us, don’t go into a dark alley, be careful when you enter a dark entrance, don’t walk along the edge of a cliff - you might fall, etc. etc. It makes sense to work through fear to the end if the fear is not associated with real danger. For example, fear of butterflies, mirrors, sticking your leg out from under the blanket. I would also like to add that fear also has a motivating function. Let's say there's an exam ahead and a little fear helps you prepare for it, learn the necessary information and pass the exam. To explore your fear, think about the questions: How justified is your fear and how does it correspond to reality? For example, how realistic is it that a butterfly can bite or sting, or attack you and cause real harm to your health? And how much does your fear interfere with your life? How to work through fear I will share with you a simple and effective exercise. In this exercise we will visualize our fear. Prepare a sheet of paper of any size, take pencils, paints, markers, etc. Draw your fear as you imagine it or as it appears to you in your worst dreams. After the drawing is ready, look at it, feel your emotions, trace your feelings. What emotions and feelings does it evoke in you? How does it affect you? Next, change your drawing to make it the least scary and funny. If, say, you are afraid of spiders and you drew spiders, then draw him a hat, a smile, a mustache, glasses. Now look again at your already changed drawing . What emotions does it evoke in you? How does it affect you? Please think about what you got after you changed your drawing? What happened to you? How has your mood changed? And what can you do to change the way you think about your fear??
