Choosing the right psychologist can be a challenging task. It's hard enough to find someone who can help solve your problems. Now there are many psychologists with different specializations, work experience and methods of therapy. The main rule when choosing a psychologist is your sense of comfort and trust in the specialist. Only then will you be able to openly talk about your problems and achieve success in the therapy process. I have collected several points for you, based on them you can choose a specialist for yourself. 1.The most important point is education! Do not hesitate to ask a psychologist for educational documents. A person who has completed a two-year course will not be able to provide you with qualified assistance. 2. Be sure to ask whether the psychologist undergoes therapy himself and how often he attends supervision. Otherwise, all the therapist’s problems will very quickly be projected onto you. 3.Define your needs and goals. Beforehand, think about what you want to achieve from therapy: relieve anxiety, improve self-esteem, change behavior, or learn how to communicate with other people. What methods of therapy do you prefer (if you know about them) It is worth asking yourself these questions before choosing a psychologist. 4. Study the specializations of a psychologist. There are a huge number of specializations in psychology, ranging from cognitive therapy to psychoanalysis. Therefore, consider which methods are most suitable for your situation. Research the Internet to find out about the psychologist's specialty before coming to your session. 5.Identify candidates and make a list of psychologists who meet your needs and requirements. Ask friends who know specialists through their experience and can recommend them. 6. Do not go to magicians, tarot readers and astrologers. A quick result in therapy is impossible (1-5 sessions). Awareness and restructuring of behavior patterns takes a long time. Remember that you must trust your inner feelings of comfort with a psychologist. And if you experience discomfort, it is better to discuss it immediately. And to sort it out, either this is your transference, or you really are not suitable for each other as a patient and a psychologist.
