From the author: The material is a discussion about the importance of homework based on the results of psychological counseling with a presentation of certain types of tasks. Homework is important in psychotherapy and is reflected in its results. Sometimes, having a delayed result, they are conductors of successful internalization of the client (assimilation of received information and experience, personal perception and development). In other words, a person generally receives direct help from a psychologist for only 1-2 hours every 1-2 weeks, and the rest of the time, for a very long time, he remains alone with himself under the power of emotions, beliefs, attitudes, experiences and repeated “feeling” of the problem situation. While completing tasks helps the client to be a “home psychologist for himself” for a given period of time, thereby consolidating the insights received during the sessions, strengthening and accelerating the process of psychotherapy, reducing the time to get out of the current negative situation and working out (including for the future) self-help techniques. At the same time, it is important before explaining homework to make the right setting and explain that in this matter the main thing is the process, not the result, since it is the process that should captivate, stimulate to change life for the better, and also fill the space with actions, and not emptiness leading to depression .Features of the selection of homework: – homework is related to the specific problem of each client and is selected individually; – the essence of the tasks should be to test the client’s hypothesis or consolidate the conclusions obtained from the session; – due to periodic resistance from clients (for example, obvious protests like “I won’t succeed!”, “I’ve already understood everything, I’ll come next time and this will be enough for me!”, “I pay the money, you work!” or veiled excuses: “I have so much to do, so much to do - I’m afraid I won’t have time”, “I’m not alone at home, I don’t want anyone to notice this”, etc.) it is necessary to timely discuss the significance of such events, giving an example from practice about the effective work of some people, their achievements in compliance with professional ethics. Types of homework with examples There are different types of homework, let's look at just a few of them: 1. Conducting behavioral experiments. During a consultation with a psychologist, a joint idea is developed that needs to be tested empirically or specific conclusions are identified that need to be consolidated in practice. For example: “By changing the tone, timbre of speech, the woman’s gaze and the message when formulating a request to her husband, a positive response follows, a desire arises to help her wife.” How can this be checked? Conduct a specific experiment at home, after first trying to role-play a similar situation with a psychologist during the session.2. Keeping a diary of internal changes, which allows you to record emotions and feelings in various problem situations, pay attention to the speed of behavioral and psycho-emotional responses, their duration, describe changes in feelings and thoughts, the use of certain techniques and exercises, recording results when constructing graphs, according to which can track the dynamics of changes. In diaries you can note your mood during the day, its changes and influencing factors. Such self-analysis is positive in terms of the client’s emergence of reflection and self-government, identifying a person’s true dependencies on someone or something.3. Keeping a diary of external actions as part of coaching. This involves testing the actions that the client has outlined together with the psychologist to practice in everyday life. Let's say you accomplished something that you had never done before, but wanted to achieve. The diary records behavioral reactions, feelings, thoughts and self-assessment of the result, as well as qualitative and quantitative achievements. 4. Reading books recommended by a psychologist for study
