There is an opinion that when two meet, six meet. The authentic self, my self-image and my image in the eyes of other people. The latter, while often remaining inaccessible, enriches and complements my integrity. Kurt Lewin wrote about the importance of seeing yourself through the eyes of another. What is a group? A group does not know the solution to your problems, but it can vividly respond to what is happening to you and then a heavy burden can become lighter, because other participants will share it. The group is a mirror. , in which you yourself are reflected and therefore in this mirror you can consider what was previously inaccessible to observation or remained insufficiently clear. The group takes out the brackets, but does not exclude your individual stories, it focuses on the real relationships between the participants - by exploring this, you will be able to understand , how do you prevent relationships from developing in real life. How does the group work? A psychotherapeutic group consists of 10-12 people, one or two of whom are leaders. The composition of the psychotherapeutic group is heterogeneous. These are people of different ages, gender, social status and with different psychological difficulties. The group meets once a week for 2 hours. Each participant determines the duration of group psychotherapy for himself. However, in order for the group to be useful, it is advisable to stay in it for at least 3-4 months. Before admission to the group, a preliminary interview is held, at which you can decide whether this group is suitable for you. The interview is also conducted to ensure that only participants who are unfamiliar with each other are in the group. There are rules in the group, some of which are initially set by the leaders, and some are accepted by the participants themselves. Among the important rules are confidentiality (everything that happens in the group must remain in it) and the right of each participant to stop attention at any time. These, and a number of other rules, help create a safe and trusting atmosphere in the group. How do changes occur? The goal of group psychotherapy is to understand yourself and change behavior that has been formed over many years. Therefore, the process of changing them will take a lot of time. Participation in a group does not lead to change quickly, for example, as a result of several meetings. However, gradually the group helps create a new system of relationships with people, changing it from “problematic” to more constructive.● The main goal of working in a group is to participate in spontaneous and conscious manifestations of one’s emotions. Behind every emotion is a need, and every need needs some kind of action to satisfy it. For example, if a group member experiences anxiety or fear (emotion), he understands that he needs security in this situation (need) and seeks help from another member who is suitable for the role of protector (action). At this point, an interaction occurs between two or more participants, which in turn leads to new emotional responses and the recognition of associated needs. Thus, in this situation, the process of interaction between participants is self-supporting. ● The task of the group leader is to support the participants in their openness and spontaneity and monitor everything that interferes with this, for example, feelings of shame and awkwardness, envy, fear of being aggressive and being left alone , the desire to maintain a “good image of oneself,” difficulties in experiencing uncertainty when nothing is known in advance, and so on. In the group process there is no division into “bad” and “good” feelings; any emotional experiences should be treated carefully and each of them given the opportunity to unfold.● An important condition for successful group work is the formation of safe and trusting relationships between its participants, therefore groups in The Gestalt method is conducted in a “closed” format with a constant number of participants for a predetermined period (from a month to six months). Who is the group for? It is worth visiting the group if: in your life constantly.
