Let's figure it out: 1. Man is not a blank slate. Each of us has a biological basis that influences the psyche: genetics, intrauterine formation (and the absence or presence of pathology in it). A person is already born with certain predispositions, which in childhood can either be partially corrected or, conversely, aggravated.2. Moreover, childhood is the period when the main personality traits are formed. What influences their formation? Parenting style. As you know, there is an authoritarian, democratic and permissive style. The atmosphere in the family itself influences: whether the environment is conflicting, toxic, or accepting and understanding. Do adults give space for the child's emotions and feelings?3. The characters of the parents, as well as their own unprocessed traumas, influence. Whether parents’ communication skills are developed or not, their ability to negotiate, listen and hear themselves, each other and their children influences. If there are several children in a family, do the parents encourage competition, highlight anyone in particular, or compare them. The quality of time given to children influences.4. The social and academic life of a child is a separate and extremely important point. Is the social and learning environment an obstacle course or, on the contrary, is it nurturing, developing and friendly?5. What behavioral examples does the child see in childhood, what attitudes does he receive from adults in the family, in the social and educational environment. What emotional and behavioral responses do adults reinforce? What values does the environment convey to him? Having genetic characteristics and predispositions initially, it is in the environment that we gain the experience of acceptance or rejection, which, of course, further influences adult life and the choices we make as adults. And each of us also initially different degrees of resistance to trauma. The same event, traumatic for one, will be experienced more sustainably by another. Here again there is a reference to the biological, because the main stability is the nervous system. Adult life already has its own stress, its own conflicts and continues to influence the personality. You can take an abstract example. The child grew up in a very friendly, accepting environment with parents who had developed communication skills, but at the same time strongly protected the child from stress. When entering adulthood, if this is a person by nature with a weak nervous system, which his parents took care of as best they could, this person will be faced with a not always friendly environment and he may have a number of serious adaptation problems. Yes, the problems are largely determined by childhood, but not all problems have their root in him. I would not reduce all personal difficulties to the childhood period. I would be glad if you share your opinion in the comments.
