A note by Alexander Molyaruk Talent without borders inspired me to speculate on the topic of discipline or inspiration. Discipline is the compulsion to follow the rules established by yourself or others to achieve your goal. Discipline is needed when you don’t want to do what is necessary, that is, this is some kind of violence against yourself. If there is interest and desire for something, if the matter inspires, then is discipline needed in this case? There are probably people for whom discipline is their guiding light. Once upon a time they lost that landmark that helps them recognize their interest. They don't know what they want. Such clients often come to therapy. They need boundaries and rules to move forward before they regain the ability to hear themselves and trust their feelings and desires. Another category of people knows what they want, but these desires can be destructive, aimed at self-destruction or punishment, suppression of others. An example is a perfectionist who has very disciplinedly driven himself into rigid psychosomatics with the desire to be the best in everything. Now he needs discipline to get out of this state and learn to treat himself with attention and love. Discipline is also needed for a creative person who follows his interest, but not in order to force, but in order to structure his activity. Discipline is especially relevant when a person, as is often the case with creative people, is prone to chaos, strives to embrace the immensity, or forgets about the prosaic needs of life, floating in the clouds of inspiration. In a world of increased consumption, the issue of competition, career, achievement, and perfectionism arises very acutely. The personality and its natural interests cannot be taken into account; they are superfluous and only interfere with achievements. When a person, conquering more and more new heights and setting higher and higher standards for himself, does not feel happy, when instead of the joy of victory comes emptiness and deep fatigue, then he comes to a psychologist with a feeling of emptiness and a request for increased motivation. Let's solve the problem: Let's say a pedestrian needs to go from point A to point B. He knows that he really needs it, that by coming to point B he will receive benefit C. The pedestrian, however, does not really want to go to point B, he would be much more willing to go to point D, where he does what he loves with great enthusiasm, but the earnings in D are not yet comparable to the benefits in C, besides, he was told many times that what he does in D is nonsense, somehow not respectable. Pedestrian very disciplined, and overcoming himself goes to B for benefit C. He is advanced, knows how to motivate himself and goes, spending energy E on self-motivation and working against the force of attraction of point D. Questions: How much vital energy G will the pedestrian spend on resistance and will he be able to benefit C to compensate him for the losses that inevitably arise from constantly living under pressure, without pleasure? What would his life, self-perception and health be like if he were doing what he loves in D? I don’t know how to motivate a person to do what he hates business. But I ask: Is this violence against oneself justified by what a person gets in return? What does he lose because he refuses to follow interest? We need to figure out why a person should force himself to do something that he does not want and does not allow himself even the thought of your favorite business. Ultimately, the question is this: how to learn to earn a decent living doing what you love and at the same time be guided by your own interest, and not by the opinions of mom, dad and other significant people. In conclusion, one life story. Once I entered the department of free painting at a German art university. Even while informing the applicants, I noticed a respectable, middle-aged man in a very expensive suit, but decided that he was someone from the administration, his appearance contrasted too much with the appearance of the future “free artists.” During the coffee break, I found myself at the same table with him. The man told me that he is a successful lawyer,.
