I would like to continue the topic that everyone is discussing about children's jealousy of younger sisters or brothers. Many of us have heard or been part of stories about how older children, when a new family member appeared in the house, simply began to change before our eyes and played pranks and committed unseemly acts in every possible way. And just imagine... You brought him from the maternity hospital, a small, tiny fool. Everyone is in an upbeat, festive mood. Everyone is fussing, talking only about the baby. And only one of all, forgotten, suddenly, for a while, once the only child, is not happy about anything. The baby, with excitement and overflowing with feelings, watches how mom and dad carefully and tenderly take the “stranger” in their arms, say something to him, although he is clearly dissatisfied with this and constantly cries. And the baby, once again, is going through his thoughts and actions, which could have influenced his so dearly beloved parents, who forgot about him, about the most “main event” in their lives. So, here we are dealing with one of the most big problems in a child's life. From the moment the second child appeared in the house, your firstborn is the suffering party. And it’s only up to you to ensure that your firstborn doesn’t always feel like he’s been toppled from his pedestal. It is very important to understand the feelings and emotions of the child at the very moment when the second child appears in your family. And for this I want to offer you an excerpt from the story of Astrid Lindgren. Let me introduce you to Peter, who gets the little sister he wanted so much.” “Her name is Lena,” said my mother. Lena could neither walk nor talk, she only screamed. When she screamed, her mother immediately came to the scream, took her in her arms, pressed her cheek to her cheek and said that she was the sweetest child in the world. Of course, except for Peter. When she wanted to eat, her mother breastfed her. Every evening, Mom bathed Lena in the bath, and Peter and Dad watched. Mom and Dad loved Lena very, very much. But Peter was not loved at all. Come to think of it, Peter didn't actually like Lena. It turns out that it is not at all interesting to have a sister. And it’s even very strange that mom and dad loved this lump so much, who just screamed all the time. But they really loved her, that's clear. Perhaps they loved her even more than Peter. So it seemed to Peter. And when he first thought about it, he became very angry with Lena. I was very stupid when I said that I wanted a sister, he thought. Well, why didn't I order a tricycle instead?! And he thought about whether he should exchange Lena for a bicycle or sell her and buy a bicycle with the proceeds. But of course no one will want to buy it, he thought and lightly gave it to Lena, who was lying on a blanket on the floor. Then mom came and grabbed Peter tightly by the hand and said, he should be ashamed, is it possible to beat his little sister? Then Peter became even more angry with Lena, and with Mom too, and he swung his leg at Mom. He was angry. Although he was a little ashamed, he didn’t want to show it. Lena was screaming, and Peter thought how nice it would be if he could hang her on a rope outside the window so that he couldn’t hear her screaming. When mom took Lena in her arms and breastfed her, Peter lost his temper and began to play pranks. He did this so that his mother would put Lena down and finally come to him and see what he was doing. One day he took scissors and cut off almost all his hair, another time he threw a kettle on the floor so that it thundered through the entire kitchen. Then his mother came running, and this was what he wanted. After all, it was his mother, not Lenina. One day Peter felt completely unhappy. He sat in the corner and cried, because he believed that mom and dad only loved Lena, and they didn’t love him at all. And then his mother came, sat him on her lap and began to gently rock him, as she usually rocked Lena. And she said: “I love you very, very much, Peter.” First I loved my little Peter, and now I love my big one….».
