Now that I am much older, I often think about these concepts [being and consciousness]. And I don’t know what being is, and I don’t know what consciousness is. But I know what happiness is: a feeling of presence, a deep feeling that you are doing exactly what you need to do to be yourself. If you are doing this, then consider that you are already standing on the edge of transcendence. That's what I always told my students: follow your bliss. There will certainly be moments of true happiness in your life. And when it passes, what then? Just be happy while you can; this is much more reliable than knowing where you can get money next year. For years I have watched young people choose their careers. There are only two possible paths: one is to follow your luck, the other is to read the forecasts and calculate which area will have the most money in the year you graduate. And the situation is changing very quickly. This year computer scientists are at the peak of popularity, next year dentists will be at the peak of popularity. And it doesn’t matter what you decide for yourself: by the time it’s time for you to leave the walls of the university, everything will have changed ten times over. But if you manage to discover your inner source of happiness, it will stay with you. Happiness itself will lead you to the secret of the transcendental, for it is the storehouse of wisdom hidden within you. When happiness leaves you, the well closes - so try to find it again. Let it be your Hermes guide, your dog who can guide you through the invisible forest. This is how a person recognizes his myth. Joseph Campbell, based on lectures and speeches in the 1960-1980s. Humility - the antidote to fear - means that we admit that we do not know what will happen or in which direction we should move, but we are willing to listen to the voice from above and follow the path that will be shown to us. This requires a willingness to live in ignorance, which scares us to death... Of course, the answer to this question will not be given to you by reason. But you have a body, you have an inner feeling and your willingness to abandon what you know and come into close contact with the Spirit of the Path, the fresh breath that floats into the air right here and now. True knowledge comes in the guise of ignorance. Such is the paradox.
