From the author: The original text of the article is on the website: Depression is the queen of negative emotions. On the one hand, this is a very unpleasant emotional state, which is characterized by depressed mood, apathy, decreased activity, sleep disturbance, and dullness of emotions. On the other hand, depression distracts us from the outside world and forces us to return to ourselves, to think about what we really want from life and what we are doing wrong. This is the main positive function of depression - to stop a person who is trying to run away from himself and is running in a vicious circle. In our lives, we often don’t know what we really want. Often we carry out a certain program prescribed to us by our parents or society. For example, become a lawyer, get married by 25, give birth to 2 children no later than 30, earn a million a month, vacation only abroad... But is this what we need to be happy? Is this what we really want?! Typically, depression does not start suddenly. Usually it is preceded by a period of accumulation of dissatisfaction with life. And this is already a reason to stop and think that we are doing it wrong. But what do we do instead? Right!!! We try even more furiously and persistently to achieve those mirages that are prescribed to us from the outside. And here depression is already waiting for us. It begins in any case: either when we achieve everything we strived for and strived for and begin to understand that this is not at all what we wanted, and what we have achieved does not bring us satisfaction; or when we cannot achieve this due to some circumstances and feel like failures who did not live up to expectations. Depression stops us and makes us think about ourselves and the meaning of our existence. Sometimes it turns out to be unbearably painful, and we begin to fight it, try to distract ourselves or take antidepressants. But can pills help us rethink our goals and values, find answers to internal questions, find our path and purpose? Of course not! They only temporarily suppress the depressive state, transforming it into a latent or chronic form. Where can we find a way out? What will be right in case of depression? The first is to accept the fact that everything that happens to us is quite natural and stop fighting depression. Just let her be! The second thing that is important to strive for is to comprehend what led to this state of affairs, analyze when and how it started, and what I did or did wrong. If the first is still a feasible task, then the second for a person who is depressed may seem like something out of science fiction. Just like how Baron Munchausen pulled himself out of the swamp by his hair. To objectively analyze WHAT, and most importantly, WHY this happens in life, find the origins of all this, figure out which desires and aspirations are really yours and which are imposed from the outside, what is really important for happiness and well-being and in which direction you need to go - sometimes it turns out to be very difficult, and sometimes simply impossible. The secret is that our psyche is structured so that our brain, or rather, our consciousness, gives false answers to these questions, which are called rationalization. The real answers lie much deeper - in the unconscious, and you can only get to them with the help of consultations with a psychologist. With the help of psychotherapy, you can understand the reasons for your condition, understand where you turned off your path, what you did wrong, and what you really want. When answers to these questions are found, depression, as a rule, recedes. Although there are individual cases when the causes of depression lie much deeper. To determine the systemic cause of depression or a depressive state, it is best to do an arrangement using the Bert Hellinger method. In the constellations, we can observe that the cause of depression may be an unconscious feeling of longing for someone significant to us who died early, for example, our aborted brothers and sisters.
