March 24 is International Day Against Depression. This is a serious mental disorder that affects millions of people and requires treatment. The main signs of depression are a painful decrease in mood, as well as a decrease or complete loss of the ability to experience pleasure - anhedonia. People with depression often and for a long time feel sadness, melancholy, depression, fears and anxieties. Favorite activities (work, hobbies, leisure) no longer arouse interest, and practically nothing makes a person happy. With depression, activity decreases, fatigue appears, even the simplest activities cause difficulties, and it is difficult to force yourself to do anything. Sleep and appetite are often disturbed. In addition, problems with self-esteem appear, self-criticism increases, a person often withdraws into himself, which leads to social isolation. One of the most serious symptoms of depression is a feeling of hopelessness, when a person sees everything in black, and the future seems bleak and full of failures. This feeling can lead to dangerous forms of depression - suicidal thoughts and behavior. In the modern world, a person suffering from depression still faces stigmatization, criticism and devaluation of their condition. I think many people are familiar with the phrases “why are you upset, just smile”, “you have a family/children/work, why should you be sad?”, “what kind of depression, don’t make it up.” In fact, all this is not simple, and the person really suffers. He needs support, help and care. He needs treatment. The good news is that depression is now effectively treated with medication and psychotherapy. With an integrated approach, it is possible to recover, return to a full life and learn to independently help yourself in the future. Cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, which was originally created specifically for the treatment of this disorder, works successfully with depression. Working with a person’s thoughts and actions allows you to cope with painful symptoms. A caring and caring attitude towards a person suffering from depression, the warm presence and support of another is one of the important components of treatment on the path to recovery. Therefore, if you or your loved ones experience something similar for what is described above, you need to contact a psychotherapist or psychologist. A specialist will be able to determine what is happening to you and help you overcome these painful conditions. You and your mental health are important. Take care of yourself and your loved ones 💜 #depression #day of fighting depression #psychotherapy #psychology #psychologist #support #cpt #ast
