The inner critic is thoughts that constantly remind you of shortcomings, mistakes and failures. These thoughts can be so annoying that it seems as if a person is in an endless struggle with himself, in an endless internal dialogue. A familiar story when you tell yourself how tired you are of yourself? I think everyone felt it at times. Tired, of course, not of yourself, but of this obsessive critical part of your personality that just can’t calm down. Have you paid attention to whose voice your inner critic speaks? Moms, dads, girlfriends, school teachers?...Whose ideas about what kind of person they want you to be, have you appropriated and even considered them your own for a long time? It is also important to understand that the inner critic does not always express our true aspirations and does not always pushes us towards what we really want. He can easily lead him in the completely opposite direction, not bringing the person closer to himself, but rather moving him away. False targets appear. I suggest not to confuse mature self-criticism with a monotonous and obsessive inner critic. The difference is that adequate self-criticism is not a “broken record”, but arises only as a response to the current situation, in order to analyze it, better understand it, accept your contribution and try not to repeat it in the future. For example, you made a mistake, admitted it, analyzed all the factors that influenced its occurrence, understood their personal contribution to it, and drew conclusions for the future. Healthy self-criticism helped and calmed down because it had fulfilled its function. An obsessive inner critic will remind you 200 more times how you screwed up 10 years ago. The key recommendation in neutralizing the inner critic is to separate it from healthy, mature self-criticism. The most important marker of difference is intrusiveness. Separated? And now you can work with it as with an ordinary obsessive thought. I have an article with useful techniques What to do if the same thoughts are spinning in your head (What to do if the same thoughts are spinning in your head) Remember that in addition to the critical part of your personality, you also have a supporting part and contact use it more often; it is a powerful resource in any situation.
