The Coward Twelve-Step Paradigm says “We are powerless over – disease, substance.” This is not entirely true, there are hundreds of episodes when a person, with the help of willpower - for a day, a month, six months - strengthened himself without using. And there are hundreds of thousands of people who gave up PAS without programs and rehabilitation, although they used it for half their lives. This means that the individual has internal resources, and she is definitely not powerless, either in the face of the idea of using it, or in the face of the poison itself. Therefore, at the very least this is cowardice! Cowardice to make a decision at a given moment in time: Having capitulated - ask for help. Pack your things and go to detox for 21 days. Without being afraid of being accounted for - undergo a course of treatment in state rehabilitation. Knowing the route to the AA-AN groups, take a step towards work according to the program. The anonymous world loves the phrase: “He has not yet reached his bottom...” Hmm... No one knows exactly where this bottom is - it borders on death. Since you yourself got into shit, then you will have to fight for your life yourself. But for a disruptive person, at a given moment in time, it is easier to win back by behavior - by using. Adapt to the difficulties that come into life through alcohol, drugs or games. The only starting point from which powerlessness begins is when a person has had the first drink, the first injection, and any one-time use or game. Here, yes, if a person has a developed addiction, he is no longer able to stop. Trigger – Assumption It is he who activates dependent thinking processes. It is he who organizes emotional changes. It is he who serves as the impetus that triggers the mechanisms of attraction to the substance. This article will talk about it.... So: A trigger is a trigger that triggers an emotional or behavioral reaction. The “reaction” itself is also a trigger for an action. A trigger is a short impulse, most often unconscious. Examples I believe that at the head of any breakdown is a conscious desire to change consciousness, but still there are plenty of examples when a person did not intend to use at the moment time, but when a trigger appears in its space, pushing it to use, a mental reaction is activated - to allow this use. External triggers - visual, auditory. Events, people, one’s own actions. An example of activation of an assumption in a person who is not familiar with the concept of addiction, has been trying to control a substance for years: After the last binge, a person abstains for 1 month. He is angry, his body is clearly missing something. A match of your favorite team is announced; such viewings are accompanied by beer, emotions, and emotional satisfaction. The brain and sensory memory give a reaction of anticipation, which is a trigger. A day later, when entering the store, he visually encounters his favorite alcoholic drink (trigger), which evokes associations from the past, which can already be combined with the upcoming match. Thoughts about the coming Friday, pushes you to realize that perhaps your favorite game will have to be looked at with a sober head. A thought arises, followed by an internal dialogue - to abandon the sober idea - (trigger). A call from a friend with an offer to watch the game together - (trigger) - increases attraction, give up abstinence and join it. Closer to the event - permission is formed to drink a few mugs while watching the game. Triggers: Upcoming match - auditory, mental-figurative trigger Counters with alcohol, a specific type of drink - visual trigger Friday - internal dialogue, mental-imaginative trigger. A friend's call is an auditory, mental-imaginative trigger. Assumption - use. At all stages, an internal dialogue is conducted, within which fluctuations occur, with each subsequent trigger the desire to use increases. Internal triggers - thoughts, feelings, visual images, internal dialogue. An example of the activation of an assumption, a person who already has knowledge about addiction: A common episode of a breakdown is a breakdown in relationships with the opposite sex. Many recovering people dream of restoring a broken union withby women. Or they rush to find their soul mate in the 1st year of sobriety. We need context and chain. Substitute your own situation each. I'll take this one: Rehabilitation completed. The recovering person strives to restore lost contact with his wife. He is trying to call, to meet. To no avail. Feelings arise - irritation, anger, internal dialogue dictates confusion (trigger) He is notified that he saw his wife accompanied by another guy - (trigger). Negative feelings and experiences intensify. Captures the state of jealousy - (trigger). The internal dialogue begins to draw negative scenarios (trigger). The meeting took place, at which it became clear that the wife has a boyfriend - (trigger). With the help of the skills acquired in the rehab center, AA/NA groups, it was possible to cope and muffle a strong negative reaction. But the thought that next to the son (children) of someone else they can call “dad” creates enormous tension and vivid thoughts and images. (Trigger) A state of hopelessness is formed. (Trigger) Coming to the old house to see the child, already knowing for sure, that the wife lives with someone else - everyday life, the attributes of the apartment, other people's things in it - give a voluminous awareness that the wife no longer belongs to him. (trigger). The bedroom and with it visual images of her with another - make a “chokehold” (trigger). Throughout the entire awareness of the impossibility of returning the family, there are strong internal dialogues and mental projections of the ex-wife with another. The pain accumulates. The integrity of a person does not find a way out of this pain. Against this background, an easy way out arises - Allow consumption in order to anesthetize yourself. From the examples you can see the entire “set” of existing triggers, a person’s reaction to their appearance, the chain of changing states that they form. Recognizing them in the “moment” is not difficult. All of them cause strong emotional fluctuations, and push the addict to an easy way of adaptation - use. With these examples, I want to especially emphasize the importance of understanding this chain. After all, along with the ability to see it, a unique opportunity appears to control at any stage of its development! Sensory obvious experience is the parent of assumption. Sensory obvious experience is the experience of the perception we have ever lived - Feelings, thoughts, states, emotions, body reactions. Very often, the desire to change the consciousness of an addict comes from here. Start talking about heroin with a person who used it in the past, and he will instantly imagine the states of euphoria he experienced. Talk to a drunkard about a hangover - and immediately his body will remember all the “withdrawals” that it experienced. It’s worth seeing a place from a photo or video past, where you once rested, and your integrity will be restored in detail - what you felt, thought, did, sensed at that moment in time. This is our sensory obvious experience. The addict’s thoughts about the past are a trigger that activates two sensory obvious experiences of the past in use: Experience of euphoria. It activates bright moments associated with satisfaction, the pleasure received from a high, and everything that it includes. There is anticipation of the “arrival”, lightness, inspiration, carefree communication, joy, contentment, pleasure, and the desire to stay in this state for as long as possible. Experience of pain. In this sensory experience, everything that is associated with the consequences of use. Prison, broken marriages, hospitals, fractures, withdrawal symptoms and hangovers. Shame, guilt, resentment, disappointment, unjustified expectations. Emptiness. Actions with consequences - theft, robbery, murder, humiliation of loved ones and anti-immoral states, which make a person sick to remember. These two sensory obvious experiences can be activated by a person at any moment in the present time. They are triggers that trigger physiological and psychological states of the subpersonality (in our case, dependent). Therefore, the moment of utmost importance is what kind of trigger a person will follow: For the experience of euphoria (trigger) - attraction to the substance. For the experience of pain ( trigger) - visualization of consequences - blocking attraction. .How the assumption itself happens.Programsrecovery is structured in such a way that analysis of the consequences becomes the fundamental basis that breaks the addict’s denial. And these mental analyzes are of a healing nature, and they are necessary. But the transition to a thought-image is a trigger that can erase the line, restoration work, and activation of the attraction to the substance. A small flash thought about the possibility of one-time use, it is to it, like a sharp fishing hook, that the internal dialogue of a person clings - which in The moment “here and now” makes it possible to transform this thought into an opportunity to use. Any incoming trigger triggers emotional fluctuations that form a person’s reaction. Sometimes this happens unconsciously, but the trigger that pushes the internal dialogue to unwind before use is usually very bright. For example, if you find yourself in a company of independent guys who drink easily and naturally, a person may impulsively take a mug of beer and clink his glass. For example, listening to modern rap artists, the texts of which are filled with soft drugs and the altered state under them, cause an unconscious reaction of admitting the same marijuana, or barbiturates. And this happens - in flash thoughts, barely noticeable to a person. Internal dialogue It happens that a person carries this assumption within himself for many months, as if looking out for which trigger he should grab onto in order to start using. It is important to emphasize that after any trigger enters into the integrity of a person, the second stage begins. In it, all processes occur in the internal dialogue of a person. It is at this stage that the return to use itself is nurtured. As a rule, these processes occur individually: someone fights for their sobriety, and knows how to work with the inner “cheater”; someone does not realize all the insidiousness and succumbs to the inner voice, following the impulse to use. For someone, the priority is to stay inside it dialogue, and what is called “chasing urges”, someone realizes that he is forming an assumption, but without the resources to cope with it, he loses “this battle” often the guys simply follow the instantly formed impulse, and do not follow a specific trigger at all leaving room for a pause. One thing that remains unchanged is that this stage is the starting stage for resuming the process of consumption. Results. So, in summary, I think the main thing is to highlight the importance of understanding the entire chain of assumptions. The emergence of the trigger itself. “A thought is a flash.” The reaction to the trigger. Thoughts - feelings - states. Internal dialogue. In which individual processes occur. Formation of attraction. Allowance to use. I affirm that the ability to work with incoming triggers in the first minutes of their appearance makes it achievable to organize a reaction that protects sobriety on a large scale. I affirm the ability to recognize your internal dialogue and your own presence in it - makes it achievable to manage all thinking processes. I affirm that the study of the chain: trigger - reaction - internal dialogue, in the moment “here and now”, makes it achievable to cultivate your individual defense of sobriety. And life management in general. On the basis of the Psychology-NON-Addiction platform, I am launching my own project “Life Changing Trigger”, within the framework of which intensive training will be held to work with triggers in the moment “here and now”. 8000 people die from drug overdoses in Russia in year. From alcohol 500,000 (worldwide). The consequence of use is 60% of suicides, 70% of murders, mutilations, broken families, diseases, it is impossible to count. Everyone who has taken the path of addiction, at all stages of its development, was driven by a trigger - its name is “Assumption” and looking at the statistics, it can rightly be called - bloody. ©Burenkov D.V.
