It is no coincidence that depression is associated with a “black hole”. It’s as if she draws into herself everything that brought joy and painted a person’s world with bright colors, discoloring it. We will not dwell now on the hormonal mechanisms of a depressive episode; a lot has been written and said about this, and it is obvious that with moderate and severe clinical pictures, therapy is impossible without drug support with antidepressants. The core of depression, that very “black hole” that sucks into itself all the emotions and strengths of a person, is a frustrating factor - a certain desire, very important, very significant and valuable, and for some subjective feelings or objective reasons unattainable for realization. It is the search for this “unattainable desired” that constitutes the first stage of treatment for a depressive episode. Worst of all, if what you want is “forbidden”, attitudes do not allow you to want it, then a person may literally not be aware of what he wants. Our motivation system for depression fails in all areas. It’s as if we stop wanting to do anything at all – this state is called apathy. In its extreme manifestations, it is difficult for a person to even simply take care of himself, get up in the morning, wash, eat... The body, losing colossal strength to frustration, enters energy saving mode. He literally puts a person to bed. If you feel like your motivation has decreased significantly, you don't want anything, you've reduced the number of social contacts, or sometimes it just seems pointless to get out of bed in the morning... you're most likely developing a depressive episode. If you yourself know exactly what is its core, this is very good, and then in therapy you and I will evaluate the subjective sensations and objective reasons for the unattainability of what we want. Sometimes, without the help of a psychologist, a person focused on a frustrating factor is conditionally in a tunnel, not seeing the prospects around him. If you feel bad, but you cannot name the exact cause of your suffering, then most likely what you want is in strong internal conflict with your social attitudes, and it is difficult for you to even admit to yourself what you want.
