Let's get acquainted. My name is Olga Tofan, I am a practicing certified psychologist, Gestalt therapist. My journey into psychology began back in 2006, when I entered the Faculty of Psychology. The desire to become a psychologist was almost always there, starting from adolescence. I couldn’t decide whether to study to become a psychiatrist or a psychologist, but I chose the second, since psychiatry tends to block the symptom rather than work through it. When I entered the university, I graduated and realized that my theoretical base was quite extensive, but it was difficult with practical skills. But this issue was postponed because I got married and gave birth to a daughter. I was immersed in family troubles. This did not last long, I very quickly began to understand that the training was over, but inside there was some kind of emptiness, unfulfillment. The question became before me, how should I deal with this? I decided to go to psychotherapeutic groups, and then to personal therapy and literally fell in love with this profession! So I decided in 2016 to go study as a Gestalt therapist at the Moscow Gestalt Institute. My path was not easy; at some point in time, I myself faced anxiety, panic attacks, and an existential crisis. I struggled with the problem of excess weight for a long time until I realized that there was no need to fight addiction. Healing occurs in the place where powerlessness is recognized and the secondary benefits of the symptom are discovered, and excess weight is precisely a symptom. Psychotherapy helped me cope completely: group and individual. I know how it is when: anxiety doesn’t allow you to live normally and sucks out all your strength, you don’t understand who you are and who you want to be. It is you, not someone else. It was through psychotherapy that I more and more came to what I call my “self,” the formation of my own unique identity. I believe that inner growth occurs in the place where pain is born and the feeling that this cannot continue. If you think it's time to change something, go for it. I continue my journey and will share it with you.
