Depression is very often accompanied by a loss of energy and a complete lack of strength to do anything. To understand where this energy and vitality go, it makes sense to understand where they come from, to understand the “internal mechanics” of the human psyche, or rather - those forces that set this mechanics in motion. Natural sources of influx of psychic energy We can identify several natural, almost natural and instinctive mechanisms for the influx of psychic energy; in this regard, we are not very different from other social animals. In addition, our culture has developed special ways of mobilizing the psyche and accumulating energy, which are characteristic only of people, and to some extent, they give us the opportunity to be human. In this article we will look at several natural sources of the influx of psychic energy into our soul. Social excitementFrom early childhood, people become animated the moment they come to the attention of their parents or other people. As soon as children reach the age when they are able to notice the movements of social life, some of them begin to show a desire to be louder, taller, and run faster. For these children, it turns out to be very important to be a winner in social games, and not only that, social games excite them - they give them energy and strength. If we draw a typology of people according to the principle of what makes them show social activity and simply gives them energy and strength, then The first psychotype can be identified as those who have a specific social passion. It is important for them not only to be in the center of attention, but also to get into the winner's circle - to be better than others in something. If we consider the behavior of people from the point of view of biologists and ethologists, then we can say that this group of people is subject to the instinct of power and championship: to be the alpha male or the first female in his pack, to take a worthy place in the social hierarchy. The desire to be first among the first forces children to study well, play sports, and achieve achievements in areas where they may not have equals. Attraction The mechanics of the thirst for pleasure or the driving force of attraction has been analyzed in detail and well covered within the framework of psychoanalysis. In this article, we simply want to draw attention to the fact that attraction may not be the leading stimulus for social and life activity for all people. For some of them, other mobilization mechanisms of the psyche turn out to be important. As indicated in the previous paragraph, for some people the instinct of power and primacy turns out to be leading. And everything connected with the sphere of desires and pleasure is for them only one of the spheres of life in which social passion and the desire to achieve primacy are included. Fear of an external threat or of losing a place in society. If we return again to the observations of biologists and ethologists, then we can say that both individual animals and the entire flock as a whole are most often driven not by attraction or social excitement, but rather by fear and a sense of self-preservation. No matter how we try to elevate humans from the background of other herd animals, sometimes it is worth noting that in people’s lives there are still basic animal instincts, or, conversely, “self-preservation instincts” in a herd animal. Thank God, we no longer encounter situations of real threat to our lives very often these days, but As “social animals,” we have a very strong fear of “social death.” Very many people actually have no desire for knowledge and no amount of sublimation can make them fall in love with learning and learn to enjoy this process. But, nevertheless, they study successfully and diligently cram the material simply out of fear of the exam. They have no desire to be the first in their studies, but they are afraid of dropping out of the university. Fear is a very effective and efficient mechanism. So,for example, some people achieve a high position in society not at all because they are pushed to this by social passion and the instinct of power, but they are simply afraid of being left behind and falling out of the pack. For this reason, they “run ahead of the locomotive” for fear that society will simply crush them or throw them aside. Curiosity They say that indifferent interest and curiosity are also characteristic of animals, but only in humans is this idle craving for something unusual, incomprehensible and a new one can turn into the leading mechanism of their internal self-organization and the influx of energy for activity. Many parents notice that their child, from early childhood, only does what he is interested in, what he has an interest in. Some children are not attracted by the desire to be the center of attention, nor by the praise of adults, nor by social excitement and group games, but they are able to spend a long time doing something that has aroused their curiosity. Many adults, just like children, are capable of achieving something only if they managed to find something that interests them. And we know many tragedies in life when people, capable of receiving a surge of energy only from what arouses their curiosity and interest, listen to the advice or demands of their parents and choose the career of a “socially successful person.” “The point of balance with the world” and the distance to life situations that can provide a person with a surge of energy in his soul. Usually a person establishes some kind of balance with the world that is acceptable to his psyche. Someone takes everything “close to the heart”, “feels keenly other people’s pain and joy,” he is concerned about what is happening in society, the country, the world. Others have a greater distance from the world, and also allow themselves to be more sensitive to some aspects of life and distance themselves from others. In accordance with the distance from various manifestations of the world is acceptable for a person, he develops for himself ways to interact with the world, as well as ways to mobilize his psyche to carry out this interaction. If social success is important to a person and social excitement turns him on, then he becomes more sensitive to these realities of life. If driven by curiosity, he becomes receptive to those areas where the zone of his interests is hidden. People living in the power of desires try to make sure that the objects of their desires constantly appear in the zone of their attention as close as possible. Having fallen into a state of depression, a person sharply moves away from the “point of balance with the world” at which he usually finds himself. A traumatic event, stress, disappointment, a critical mass of negative events and experiences seem to push his “I” away from this “point”. We can say that a person’s “I”, as a result of stress or mental trauma, seems to shy away to the side, violating his usual distances from various life situations that can motivate him to activity and, thanks to participation in which, a surge of energy comes into his psyche. Let’s imagine a person , who had an unexpected breakup with someone close. It is very difficult for him to bear both the fact of his absence in his life and the very thought of him; he experiences acute mental pain, which is difficult for him to experience. In the psyche, peculiar “anti-shock mechanisms” are triggered, which throw the “I” of this person to the farthest possible distance from everything that is happening. Perhaps this reduces the severity of pain, but at the same time it disrupts the person’s usual ways of mobilizing the psyche and equipping it with the necessary equipment for this mobilization energy. In addition to a pessimistic image of the world and low self-esteem, a person feels energy exhaustion: he does not have enough strength to perform habitual actions, or to feel and emotions, or to keep the thoughts available to him in the field of consciousness. Returning the stressed-out “I” to the “point of balance with the world” When a person suffering from depression comes to a psychotherapist, he usually asks to “get him out of this state”, to return him to the usual.
