I really like Irvin Yalom’s phrase (one of the pillars of psychotherapy for me) that he creates his own therapy for each client. And it is true. I look back on my years of practice (10? 12?) and realize how differently this process can unfold! It is amazing! It seems like similar human needs, the same methods and techniques - but everyone has their own way. Some people completely restructure their worldview in just a few months. Someone will work on a piece, go away to live with it, then come back with the next one. Someone uses this space as supportive and accepting. Someone is like a container for their experiences. I have great respect for both long-term and short-term methods. Both of them work. Both have their advantages. There are stories that are not resolved quickly. Which are not easily resolved. If a client comes to a one-time meeting to love himself or accept himself. Wait, wait! - I say. - You can’t take such a story offhandedly. A magic pill so that - once! - and fell in love, I don’t have it. But this does not mean that this will require an infinite number of meetings. “Are you ready for a long job?” - it’s not even always about time, but about intention. Are you ready seriously, sincerely, deeply. Slowly, I mean thoroughly. For some, the expression of readiness for long (slow?) work is an expression of seriousness of intention. The expression itself can be therapeutic. I am ready to pay such a big price for my change (in time, money, overcoming difficulties). I'm ready! And perhaps it will be much cheaper. Everyone has their own therapy. With your own request, with your own depth and speed. Everyone uses it for something different. My personal therapy is long and lasting. It seems to me that it is similar to scuba diving (which in reality I am terribly afraid of). Every time I dive to some depth and see what unknown, unknown beauty there is. For me, this process of learning one’s own depths is important and interesting. And this, of course, is an open-ended request..
