I would like to share my experience of conducting groups with spontaneous group dynamics. The difference between this format is that there are no exercises or strict management; the leader acts as a facilitator; what happens in the group largely depends on the participants themselves. This type of group work is implemented quite rarely, but my experience shows that this is one of the deepest and most sincere formats. I have repeatedly conducted such groups with both adults and teenagers. Typically this format is called a “meeting group” (sometimes a “dynamic group”) and is described in some detail by Carl Rogers, although there are differences. I especially admire the depth that arises not in adults, but in teenage groups. So, Episode 1. Teenage group 14-18 years old, 10 people, the group has been studying for 4 months. Sveta: “.....I want to tell ... in general, it’s difficult.... But I recently broke up with my boyfriend... And he was choosing between me and another girl and chose her...... It’s terrible, I don’t know what to do now, communicate with him or not..(It is clear that it is very difficult for Sveta to speak... her voice trembles, she pauses, and it seems that she is about to cry. The whole group listens attentively.) Katya: Can I hug you? Sveta: Yes, Katya gets up and hugs Sveta, they stand for a while. The whole group watches and the atmosphere is filled with empathy and attentiveness. After a minute, the girls sit down. Host: Sveta, it seemed to me that this was very important for you and supported you. do you need support? Sveta: Probably, yes Olya: Can I hug you too? Sveta nods her head. Olya comes up to Sveta and hugs her and does it somehow especially carefully and attentively. Sveta starts crying. They stand in silence and Sveta almost sobs bitterly on Olya’s shoulder. This moment lasts about 2 minutes. The entire group is 100% involved in what is happening, the atmosphere is filled with attentiveness and care. At some point Sveta calms down. Olya sits down. Anya gets up silently and heads towards Sveta. Anya is Sveta’s sister, they have a good relationship, but they rarely communicate in the group. The two sisters stand silently, hugging each other, for about a minute. Sveta has already calmed down and is about to sit down. But then Dima gets up. Dima is an introverted and reserved guy, he rarely speaks, and usually does it last. In the group, it was always difficult for him to make close contact: make eye contact, touch, and initiate communication. Dima gets up, his movements are somewhat constrained and it is clear that he is embarrassed to hug Sveta, it is more like a friendly pat on the shoulder. But for him this is an important step. Everyone sits down. There is a pause filled with meaning. Sveta: thank you.... Thank you. It was very important for me... Very.
