In my opinion, there is no correct and unambiguous answer to this question. But this is exactly the place where you need to stop and think. I highlight several points that are, in my opinion, more important when choosing: 🔹Firstly, a request, there are requests that are more effectively solved by individual psychotherapy, and there are group ones. It is considered that individual conflict is more focused on intrapersonal conflict, and group conflict is more focused on interpersonal conflict. That is, if the request is to study relationships with others, build partnerships, friendships, then group therapy is most likely suitable; if there is more interest in exploring oneself, one’s inner world, then individual therapy may well solve this problem.🔹Secondly, personal characteristics client, sometimes a request is more suitable for group therapy, but there are characteristics of the client that cannot be resolved in group therapy, but can only interfere with both the client and other participants. And then it is more important to start with the individual and when you have the ability to withstand the dynamics of the group, go to group work. Thirdly, the client’s condition is right now. Perhaps both a request for a group and personal characteristics allow it, but there is no desire and opportunity to be in a group, focus on internal processes or no resources for dynamic changes, then it is better to start with an individual one. Therefore, a preliminary interview is an important and necessary step before group therapy , so that the request, the client’s situation and the capabilities of the group can be clarified (this is no less important than the client’s capabilities). Personally, I really love group therapy; I cannot achieve such results only in individual therapy, but I know for sure that individual therapy is the foundation which allows the group process to be deeper and more careful. And yes, it is not necessary to choose, sometimes these forms combine perfectly with each other. Since the group process can be dynamic and deep, in personal therapy it is possible to process all the material that comes up in the group, which allows you to have support between meetings, assimilate and appropriate new experience. WHAT ARE YOU GOING ABOUT WITH INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP THERAPY? WHAT DO YOU CHOOSE? Enrollment for the therapeutic group for teenagers “OWN” is now open"
