The living conditions of our time present challenges every day, which sometimes become increasingly difficult to respond to. A person bends under a gray routine, troubles in his personal and professional life. And so often you can hear the expression: “I have depression.” If we take the formal view of medicine, we can see fairly clear criteria: 1. Constant bad mood.2. Loss of joy from what you liked before 3. Prostration. Sleep disturbances, changes in appetite and weight appear. There are also clear time criteria. Everything seems clear. It’s almost time to see a doctor. But! But for some reason, things are stalled by frequently encountered phrases: “come on, you just have to want it, and you can overcome it,” “pull yourself together, wipe your snot,” “look, others have it even worse,” “yes, that’s it.” You’re doing well, cheer up.” And it seems like you look at it like this, well, it can be even worse: “Here are your arms and legs, so go ahead and work.” And the campaign is postponed, but the condition remains. Over time, it gets even worse, because “if others have it worse, then I’m completely defective, since nothing works out.” The guilt intensifies, self-help moves away. A vicious circle begins: A bag of groceries is torn -> I’m not capable of anything -> decreased mood -> I don’t get to work for a long time -> I won’t be able to do it on time -> powerlessness This is an exaggerated example, but I think the meaning is clear. Walk around thinking errors actively help us in a vicious circle: black-and-white thinking, catastrophizing, tunnel vision, having to, etc. On my page there is already a publication with the most common cognitive errors of thinking. I do not have specific recommendations here (for depression), especially since there is no place for advice here. There is a lot of biology in depression and I want to emphasize this! But. I agree that it is not always possible to go into stable remission with antidepressants alone. Therefore, a combination of pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy is important. To be continued.
