Despite the fact that hyperactivity is a behavioral disorder, you should not consider this situation as a misfortune that befell a child. It is much more productive to consider this a feature of his development. Strictly speaking, people without some characteristics do not exist. Despite the fact that there are no single recipes suitable for any family, there are general recommendations that should be taken into account not only by parents, but also by all family members. Excessive guardianship should be avoided; you should not limit the child’s contacts, trying to protect him from communication problems. Communication should be “even”, without sudden transitions from affection to shouting, from support to rejection. The interaction of all family members must be coordinated; for a hyperactive child, clear and a stable system of restrictions and requirements. If possible, avoid unexpected, new situations. The child’s day should be clearly planned, and the regime should not be violated (it is better for the child to go to bed and get up at the same time, eat and walk, play and study). Increased physical activity should be “canalized” using useful activities such as dancing, choreography, cycling, skiing, swimming; martial arts and group sports, tennis, fencing are not recommended. It is important that playing sports does not create additional problems and new failures. It is advisable so that the child has his own range of responsibilities. You need to teach responsibility gradually, from the simplest and smallest, patiently, without irritation, calmly, but demandingly. When determining the system of requirements, take into account the child’s characteristics. Thus, the requirement to “sit quietly” is impossible to fulfill for a long time .A hyperactive child cannot “walk calmly next to him” during a walk, which means it is not effective to pull him back, call out and stop him all the time. A reasonable restriction is the exclusion of what is dangerous for the health and life of the child. It is better to break any information for the child into small pieces portions. Since hyperactive children are very talkative, but their speech can be blurred and unclear, teach the child to clearly express his thoughts, ask him to repeat, explain, show. Show interest in communication. Be sure to praise the child for his efforts to “behave well,” support and encourage him, rejoice at any achievements and successes. A hyperactive child must have his own “corner” or his own room, with the opportunity to retire, to be alone. Parents of hyperactive children are very anxious, tense, unsmiling and not prone to jokes and practical jokes, and it is very important for a hyperactive child to learn relieve your own tension, relax emotionally. Learn this yourself and teach your child. Be cooperative and look for options for positive communication.
