From the author: For those who are relevant. In fact, this is the most important stage in psychotherapy. It’s not that you yourself noticed your problem and realized that you couldn’t handle it yourself, but who you entrusted it to. When choosing a psychologist, you need to consider many factors in addition to his education and qualifications. Let's briefly discuss these points.1. The psychologist should evoke your sympathy. Not erotic, of course, but at the level of acceptance. Attract, dispose. This should be a person with whom it is simply pleasant to talk.2. Age. Very often we rely on the opinion that. That the older you are, the more experienced you are. Of course, with age comes experience, but also comes some laziness. Over many years of practice, therapists simply develop their own counseling strategy and stop growing, in terms of improving their qualifications or simply even becoming familiar with new trends. (Not all of them, but they happen quite often). Psychology, like everything else, is constantly moving forward, and its practical directions are also undergoing changes. You just need to be aware. And often young specialists (due to their complex of competences) have many more hours of advanced training and relevant certificates. Which significantly affects the quality of his work and flexibility in communicating with clients.3. Floor. Someone deliberately chooses a specialist based on gender. Some people feel more comfortable with a woman, while others feel more comfortable with a man. Yes, the approach of therapists may differ slightly, because we are still different. But a psychologist, like any doctor, is a sexless being, this must be remembered. You can also make the mistake of thinking that only a woman, for example, can handle your request. But this does not deprive you of the right to want to work only with a woman or only with a man. 4. Qualification. There are incredibly many directions and modalities in psychology and they are all different. Different approaches to the client, different ways of establishing contact, different techniques and methods of work. And this must be understood. If you start working with psychologists and you are uncomfortable with what he does or asks you to do, you say so. If the psychologist’s qualifications are high, then he will see it himself, but if he doesn’t see it (we are people too), then after your comment he will certainly change the strategy and tactics, method and technique. Well, if it doesn’t measure it, change your psychologist. Therapy should be comfortable, even in the process of strong changes. You should leave in better condition than when you arrived. You have the right to do so. This is our job. But if you came happy and left in a terrible state and they tell you that this is normal, remember - this is not normal.5. Price. As for the cost, I have my own, purely subjective opinion. First of all, it shouldn't be cheap. Because the therapist spent a lot of money on training and he, simply, needs to recoup it. Accordingly, if he sets a low price, then suspicion creeps in about his qualifications. This is the first point. Secondly, the price should also be acceptable, taking into account the fact that it is not always possible to cope with the request in 2 meetings, and the client may have financial difficulties along with a great desire to get help. And the plus is that some simply will not go for help, knowing that one consultation costs 5000 rubles (approximately) and they will need 10 of them, because even knowing that all this will pay off, the client may simply feel sorry for this amount. We are psychologists, we primarily help, not earn money. But I also like to ask: “how much is your life worth without this problem?” After asking such a question, doubts about the price usually disappear.6. Place of work. Here I also have my own conviction: “If a person needs help, then he will gratefully receive it in the field.” But this is an extreme. Even if a psychologist does not have his own office and sees people at home, it should be an inviting environment where it is comfortable and at the same time the client should see regalia (certificates, diplomas, etc.). Even if they are not hanging on the wall, you can simply ask for them. And this is only a part of all the nuances that can make the search easier, but the main ones. But we are all reasonable and
