It's not just a "bad mood". Why does it occur? The causes of depression can be varied and include biological, genetic, psychological and sociocultural factors. Stress, loss of loved ones, chronic diseases, abuse of psychostimulants and brain metabolic disorders can also contribute to its development. Who is more susceptible to depression? Depression can affect anyone, regardless of gender, age or social status. However, some groups, such as people with a family history of depression and those who have experienced traumatic events, may have an increased risk. And yes, according to statistics, women are more likely than men to be depressed.🔸What types of depression are there? There are several types of depression, including major depression, dysthymia, major, minor, recurrent... and even seasonal affective disorder (winter depression). Each has its own characteristics and symptoms.🔸How is depression different from depressive disorder? The term depressive disorder is commonly used as a synonym for depression. It describes the same condition, although in some contexts it may imply milder forms of depression. The diagnosis of depression is made by a psychiatrist. 🔸How is depression different from a bad mood?Bad mood is a normal part of human life, which can be temporary and is usually associated with specific events. This may include psychotherapy, medication support, regular physical activity, sleep and eating habits, and support from family and friends.🧡How can a psychologist and psychiatrist help?Psychologists and psychiatrists specialize in treating depression. Psychologists provide psychological support and help patients understand and eliminate the causes of depression, and develop behavioral strategies that will allow them to get out of this state. At the same time, psychiatrists can prescribe medications to stabilize and alleviate the condition. Depression is a serious illness that requires timely attention and help.
